Amazing. He ranks up there with Keats - talented young people that had a chance to get their talents into the world before dying far too young. It's lightened my day and others and that makes that brief time worth it all.
Pity his life was a sequence of depressions. What a talent. Something else than those half naked tit shaking none talents, that made me, e.g., decide to dump my TV and not to replace it.
To the person that said something about the video, you are right, unfortunately, we don't have him in a video. I'm sure he would have been quite a presence.
Thankful he still lives through the music he left us. I find inner peace and absolute bliss, escaping the chaos that surrounds me by laying down on my soft, uncut lawn, looking up into the sky, listening to Nick with the words of his soothing voice, synced with the overhead clouds, slowly passing by. ah...
Definately, ahead of his time. One of his happier tunes. Love em all. I think I like his more, hopeful tunes as this. Don't know if these tunes are as deep as some of NIck's others, still find them great, even if not so deep as eome.
Nothing describes depression as eloquently and accurately as this song. The man and his music are such a gift to us. I feel blessed to experience his music now.
Nick Drake is a true a musical genius. Wonderful, thought provoking lyrics. I wish I could have met him...
I know this can annoy people but please support a singer/songwriter become better known and click on her name to see her youtube channel and listen to her songs. Thanks everyone! x
This is me singing. Seriously. I will love you forever darling, and while you're up in heaven loving every min of it I'm down here wondering why? You know?
Totally respected Nemesis. Having visited that state of mind 3 times in August or September of 86 I really do understand. I know by the time I walked to the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge I was well beyond mere sorrow, literally a walking zombie, no longer much in touch with the cares of this world, including what loved ones would have to deal with. 3 different trips up there, have zero idea why I did not jump. Possibly the common gale force winds up there, dunno.
Lovely song. Nemesis, your response I am afraid is out of line, though I do respect your opinion, I feel you should respect the monumental pain of James. Seriously sir, I really believe a kind apology is in order.
@tullist i dont. ive lost someone as well, and i found it messed up that someone would be angry at their brother for doing something that he felt was probably his only option. getting angry at someone for suicide is like getting mad at an epiliptic person who seizures. probably not the best analogy, but the point being that its a mental issue, not some sort of choice that the person is making for attention. if its painful for your family, imagine the pain felt to be at the point as to not care.
Great musician but an absolute scumbag for killing himself or allowing himself to be so reckless as to die. My brother killed himself 20 years ago and let me tell you, if I had a choice to be skinned and burned alive or go through the hell of him killing himself again, I would rather be skinned and burned alive. There is no greater harm on this earth a person can do to his family than suicide, It almost killed my mother and gave my father a heart attack which killed him 6 years later.
@JamesTKirkCobain wow if thats how you think about people in pain, i'd bet you were a big factor in why your brother offed himself. how naive and selfish for you to say that someone shouldn't have control over their own lives just cause you are too self involved to care about their interests. people at that point already have to deal with enough pain without dirtbags like you that guilt them about about the way they feel. noone is a scumbag for ending themself. you're a scumbag for saying that
@JamesTKirkCobain Just EGO TRIPS, we all have to die ,its a fact of life people are afraid to deal with, disease, accidents .old age , whats the difference???? suicide is just choosing .how and when to exit....the only waste is not doing it like heroes do!! for the good of saving others.
@JamesTKirkCobain Chronic depression, especially if it is not treated properly, can lead to mental illness. Clear, relative thinking may no longer have been on the cards in the case of your brother and Nick Drake.
Suicide may be contemplated and executed by people who are in that boat, or by cowards because it is a lame way out.
Who'll tell where your brother or Nick were at the end of their lives?
It's so sad, people my age just dont appreciate good music, they go for songs with 3 repeating chords, 2 instruments and somebody wailing or shouting about rubbish. We need more music like this :)
I definately agree with you lzyes... Not very many people even know who Nick Drake is. I tried to introduce alot of people to his music a few years ago and needless to say, they didnt appreciate or understand it!? Nick was way ahead of his time with his music... And unfortunetly those artists never last..................
lovely.. beautiful.. my son had this posted on hiis facebook page.. he coulda been but he is what he is great in the cosmos.. damn A.m.A.. when will we all learn to go natural ?? soon i hope..

We should show this music to all the people.
