  • Beautiful hat! I've done three so far and my daughters take them as I finish! I made a nice white one with a white scarf for a friend and they were so impressed. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this tutorial. It was so easy to follow along. Could this style of hat be substituted for a different stitch pattern?

  • I think what happened to mine is that I used a small gauge :( So I couldn't make the band of the hat like I wanted it.

Maybe I should have repeated round 7-10 to make it a little large and then decreased it. Oh well my daughter like it anyway :)

  • @Shaheeda4ever I did this hat a second time for the same reason (it was too small) so, I reapeated rnds 7-10 then for round 12 I reduced the number of times DEC. And for the Band rnds 13-19 I did one round of DEC followed with 1 or 2 rnds of sc until it fitted correctly. You're prob. more experienced than I am so forgive me if you already know how to modify. I just wanted to share this info just in case someone else ran into the same difficulties.

    Cheers!

  • I have made 2 of these caps to match my outfits. When I first saw the picture I thought no way will I be able to do this as I was worried about the design. NO WORRY NOW. The video makes it so easy to do this pattern and the hat is so cute. I love it. So far this has been my fav. Think I'll try the hat with the brim. Thanks for making this video so easy to follow.

  • i did my first one today and it came out good thank you for your videos you teach me alot

  • I will give it a try now. Thanks Teresa!!

  • @anandazen30 Please share a picture and video response when you get your cap complete.

  • esta geniall el gorro .. pero no me salioooo! volvere a intentarlo.. saludoss

  • the first time i made the hat it came out perfect im trying to make another one but it keeps curling at the third/fourth row wat do i doo plz write back

  • I just got done making one. But the head band part is a little short...I ran our of yarn. Do you have a Facebook fan page by any chance?

  • great video helped me lots and i loved it my hat looks so cute xD

  • I wanted to say THANK YOU for such explicit videos, I also made a hat just by looking at your video and it turned out so well. Thank you very much.

  • I love this hat! I have made two of them now, my aunt wanted one the minute she saw it...the first time I made it I thought "How is this going to come together?" It was sooo big! But in the end it looked great! Thanks and I love watching and learning from you Teresa!

  • Hmm...This is a very well done tutorial, but I have to say...I followed directions to the T and well, I really don't like this hat. How are you meant to wear something so floppy and large? Is it possible mine came out too big because I used slightly thicker yarn? (And I mean, just barely thicker)

  • You are god's gift sent to crocheters world wide. I LOVE YOU AND YOUR WORK! thank you!!!

  • Um..is this hat suitable for a hot weather? or summer?

  • hello, i wonder, how to put new yarn as if my yarn run out? thanks

  • As a total newbie to crochet (I learned how to crochet last weekene via YouTube), I had made one scarf, then I tried to crochet your Kingston Hat. I finished it today, and I must tell you, I LOVE IT! It turned out so awesome! Your instructions were clear and precise. I even used the pattern in conjunction with the Tutorial to help me learn how to actually read patterns. Your video was GREAT, and left no questions for the total newbie like myself. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!! :-)

  • Thank you so much <3

  • Holy Cow! You make this all look so easy! My hat (pun intended) is off to you. Even with the breaks in the video, my guess is you made this great cap is less than an hour...awesome! Crochet has always intimidated me, but I'm going to park myself in front of your video and make a cap for each of my daughters and sisters and friends and the ladies down the street and on and on! Thanks so much - your video is the very best I've seen on YouTube!

  • @DancingFeather04 The cap will take about an 60-90 minutes to make. Please share a video response of all your caps when you get them complete. Thank you.

  • can this be used as a beret?

  • @6120rocks You can expand the top of the cap by working more increase rounds.

  • I just Love all your videos!! =) Thank you for your time and the effort you put into making these videos for everyone! =)

  • @Kimiluvbug01 You are welcome. :)

  • WOW!!! Thanks so much!! This was a great step by step video!! :)

  • I dont understand how to start the 2nd row i think! I dont understand where the chain 1 space is! :( helP!

  • @marineswife11-Thank you. That helps a lot

  • What does it mean when you say increase ?

  • thank u so much, i enjoy learning from u & u have made me enjoy crochet insted of being scared of it. i am doing this for 1 of my daughters but my tension is looser that yours, just hope it still looks ok lol thanks again.

  • I made this hat today and it turned out really well. I'm so impressed with the outcome. Your tutorials are so helpful. Thank u so much. You make it look so easy, I'm addicted to crocheting now and looking forward to another project.

  • Great pattern, but the top of the hat turned out a little wavy. Is that normal? Is it because I was confused and at the end of every round I chained 1 and do the single crochet too?

  • I made one hat following this video and added two extra rounds after the 7-10. It was a little too snug on my head but still works. If I want to make the cap more slouchy should I add more length in the 7-10 rounds or what would you suggest? And how can I make this a little looser for my head?

  • I've tried this and had to start over three times, but the same thing keeps happening. When I finish round 2, it winds up looking like a flower. I even tried using a larger hook (6mm), and not pulling the stitches so tight but it still looks like a flower. Am I doing something wrong?

  • @MacSugas - I just had the same thought as I was doing it but round two is going to initially take on more of a little wavy flower shape but once you do the third row it straightens out :) Its the increases that make it wavy but there aren't increases in the third so it will round out. Hope this helps!

  • wow amazing...i got it right...in almost haft a day hahaha....but i got it!!!!!!thank you so much...keep it up ...i want to learn more from you..but my hand was shaking already hahaha...but im happy 2day....2day i made kingston cap....

    thnk you sooooo muchhhhhhh.......godbles......

  • INTERESNTE VIDEO

  • What happens if I use a smaller hook (2.5mm) with 4 ply yarn?

  • @feelslikedance The cap is going to be smaller if you do not increase. As long as you work more increase stitches and round, you can increase the size with the smaller hook.

  • @tjw1963 I bought a slightly bigger hook in the end and had to do a few more increase stitches and rounds. It turned out great. Thank you for making the tutorial! :D

  • suuper, habe ich sogar ohne Englischkenntnisse verstanden. Danke!

    Liebe Grüße Regina

  • Argh , I only had 10 sets on row 3 , I had to start over DX

This is a great tutorial though :D

  • Would you suggest beginner to make this hat ,or another style? I am really wanted to make my mom one and I don't have to much experience just yet. :)

  • @LauraLynn2008 I personally started with Granny Squares, rather than clothes, you get to learn a lot of stitches and you can always crochet them together to make a beadspread for your mum xxx

  • how would you make this hat larger? i have A LOT of hair and i want all of it to fit in the hat.. any suggestions?

  • So what size of head is this for? and how much yarn did you use? thanks!

  • Hi I love your tutorials, projects are really easy to make, I would like to know where can I get those little protectors or covers you use for your hooks???. Because my poor fingers are complaining, and begging me to try one. Thank you...

  • You r fantastic!!!!!!!!!!U make evrything make sense nd u do evrything at a steady pace.I am 12 yrs old nd for me i have on paientance but u make way easier for me.Thank You!!!!!!:)

  • @aliyajs9899 Thank you! I am happy it made sense to you.

  • Your amazing! don't stop making these videos! Thank you <3

  • Thank you so much Your a great teacher!! I am now making a matching set for me and my daughter!! Thank you so very much!!

  • Thanks Loved the tutorial great and easy! I am on row 9 but i am looking for more of a baret hat is there anyway i can adjust it to make it more like that? Thanks so much!

  • made this and it came out too big :( (i have a weird head) what can i do??

  • @hijakaftoyl You can work more decreases on the band to make it smaller. You will have a full top portion of the cap so it is slouchy while modifying the band smaller.

  • Teresa, I've found your tutorials to be so easy, I tried 2 attempts to making a slouchy beanie and both were unsuccessful, until someone shared this tutorial on your double crochet decreasing style for hats. The problem has been that my hats were looking like pancakes after 20 some odd rounds and I couldn't figure it out, I will try this once I decide to pick up the hook again, kinda angry at them right now.

  • will this work and make it smaller with baby yarn and a 5mm hook? hellpp

  • how does yours looks so flat compare to my.... my looks like a flower...after 3 rounds in the beginning

  • For some reason, the beginning of my hat keeps coming out wavy. On the round before the increases I think is where it starts to do that. Any reason why?

  • Thanks a lot!! I am on my 9 row and you really helped me a lot!!<333

  • I'm now doing the round 13 but my hat is very small compared with your showing in the tutorial. I think my problem is abt the hook but it's nearly the biggest one I have in my country now. Here we have 8 sizes and I used the No.6.

If I want to make this hat bigger with the current hook, can you teach me how I should do?

  • I tried to put it on, then I figured out it was too small...

  • Okay you are very very talented and a good instructor, but when you are doing these can you go slower to show exaclty how to do things and then get faster after showing them once? In the very begining your hands are moving too fast for me to even follow you and it got me very frusturated (not saying you being fast is a bad thing, it just means you are far more advanced than I am).

  • @MonsterCupcakeGoRawr Just pause the video and replay if need be, that is what I need to do sometimes!

  • Ok I LOVE this video but I am confused when you say go into the chain one space. I am obviously a newbie I keep rewinding to try and figure out which is the chain space and where you put the needle but I am confused. I really want to make this hat but am a bit frusterated with myself.

  • how would you make this smaller like for a baby

  • if i need the hat larger, would i use a larger hook?

  • @teengurls100 yes. the larger the hook is the larger the hat will be :)

  • Ms. Teresa, you are a great teacher. You made it very simply and easy. Mines turned out great. Now, I am about to learn how to make another one of your beautiful hats.

  • @tjw1963 Hi Teresa! I so love the one I made... although i keep on repeating from the beginning just to make it right. And Voila! I did it. Thanks for your clear and wonderful tutorial.. And now I am making another one for my husband Large size beanie cap i am almost done!

    Best wishes. ; )

  • I am loving this. you are such a good teacher. is it possible to show the same style hat with a different pattern at the top section?

  • .youtube.com/watch?v=Ret8xb2fS5Y&feature=relmfu

  • Please look at the yellow hat in the video. He want me to try to get close to this. He doesn't have it anymore. So I really can't look at it. All that is dreads on his head. The go pass elbow. I hope this helps. It looks like a slouchie beanie.

  • It s hard to explain but if you lay the hat on top of his head and pull the sides of the hat would touch the ears. I believe what you are stating is what I need.

  • Hello! I am making this hat for a friend of mind that long thick dread locks. He wants the hat really wide where the ends of the hat would touch the lobes of the ears. it will sit on his head flat. the dreads are too long to fit in the hat but he likes the style. Now would i do an increase after the 6th row? How do you suggest to do the increase to get this length? 3 DC, CH 1 in CH 1 space, work 1 set of 4 DC, CH 1 in each of the next 3 CH 1 spaces?

  • @chrystalSexydiabetic So what he is looking for is a wider headband that drops down further past his ears?

  • i finished this hat, but it turned out small...and does not look like the one in the video.. i even added a few rounds..where did i do wrong?

  • @Zhevonne possibly using the wrong size hook and yarn? If they are smaller, it will make a smaller hat.

  • not working for me. i need like "Crochet For Dummies"

  • i can't keep up round 12..during the decrease round..is it 1double stich then two double stich all the way?

  • @Zhevonne Round 12: Work 1 DC, work a DC DEC, Continue around. This part can easily be adjusted for a larger or smaller head. Each double crochet decrease will count as 1 stitch. I have found that 60-70 stitches is the approximate amount of stitches for an adult size head. Try the cap on to see how close you are with the fit. If the cap is to small on the band, work less double crochet dec. If the cap is to large, work more double crochet decreases. This will modify the band to your custom fit.

  • I used 4 ply yarn, but why is it that when I'm already finish with round 1 or 2, I can't really see the what you call space. HELP! This is my first time. Is it too loose or too tight?

  • @melissavalerie If you are unable to see the space, most likely you are crocheting to tight.

  • @tjw1963 thank you. I'll start again :(

  • you are going too fast :( and i cant keep up.

  • @solasxanam You will find pause and rewind on the video.

  • @solasxanam If you are a beginner, you will need to pause and rewind. If you are not familiar with the basic crochet stitches, I recommend that you practice with them first and then come back when you are more familiar with the basic stitches.

  • Awesome tutorial!!!! I can't believe I made a hat.

  • I have a question. Is there a way to make the band bigger? I did 2 sc in every other sc. Do you have any other suggestions?

  • @jairyde Yes, you could make 2 SC in every stitch in you needed to. If that is to much, you can work 2 SC in 2 stitches and 1 SC in the 3rd stitch.

  • I can't seem to find your tutorial of a slouchy beanie/hat. Do you have a link? I found other links but I prefer yours. :)

  • This is the second time I'm making this hat!!! I love it!!! The only problem is when I make it someone wants it!! LOL!!! Thanks so much Theresa :-)

  • @netta2002 You will have to make a spare so you have one ready. Glad you like it.

  • @tjw1963 Hi! Mine went good but too bad its small i wonder why.. maybe because the needle i use, coz its only 5.0mm.. so maybe thats why. Anyway, overall I learned a lot! Thanks so much.

  • @182007nesert It could be a combination of using a smaller crochet hook and crocheting a little tighter.

  • @182007nesert You can work more increase rounds to make the cap larger, even if you are using a smaller crochet hook.

  • @tjw1963 Oh yah! maybe its too tight right? coz thats what i did.. ;)

  • @182007nesert Maybe you naturally crochet tighter. That is normal. You modify by working more increase rounds. That is where you work the two sets of stitches in the same space.

  • This is an amazing tutorial! Has any one tried it in a chunky yarn? I have a beautiful red that I'd think would be perfect but wanted to know how other people got on and what hook you might have used.? thank you xx

  • @tjw1963 Whats the size of your crochet needle please? Thanks

  • @182007nesert The Crochet Hook is size I/5.5mm

  • my cap is turnin out really good. omg ilove it im so proud of myself. thank you so much for teaching me(:

  • Not hating, but can you PLEASE slow it down, you went a little too fast..

    But that's amazing skill though!

  • @zebraovahere If speed is a problem, I suggest you try Teresa's "Traditional Granny Square Ultra Slow Motion" first, because this tutorial basically just uses granny square technique but big and round not small and square.

  • I think I'm most amazed by the fact that these wonderful creations are made up from one piece of string.

  • i love mine, thank you so much for such a clear tutorial!

  • @TheJesliTeam You are welcome. I am glad you like it.

  • Dear (haters) people who dislike these videos,

your obviously a fail. You just dislike it because you can't crochet. Simple as that. you can crochet something so you dislike this to vent out your anger. Dear haters GET A LIFE!.

  • Quick question for tjw1963 or anyone who can help. In the instructions you listed how to do a Extra Increase Round that would follow round 6. Is this what I would need to do if I were making one for someone who had a lot hair such as dread locks? It's for my mom and she doesn't have an extremely large amount of hair but she definitely would need something bigger than an average large adult hat.

  • @Shawnese913 You will continue to work increase rounds to expand the crochet of the cap to make it larger. You will work additional rows to make the cap deeper as well.

  • Thank u thank u thank u!!! I've been a beginner for probably 10yrs. I can do a SC and make a scarf in my sleep lol. U just upgraded me!!! But I'm not going to lie...I was so scared to move on to round 12...DC DEC. So scared I put it down for a week LOL! But I just finished and it turned out beautiful. I'm so proud of myself. I learned so much from just this one video. Thank u!!!

  • I've been crocheting for 3 days just by watching tutorials and I made this cap in 5 hours. I watched the video first and then went back and followed and paused. I love how it came out! Definitely will be looking at your other tutorials for future gift ideas! :)

  • @canudance07 You caught on fast. I am glad it turned out so well for you.

  • Really frustrating

  • Definitely not for a beginner.

  • @DeezyEs It is not a beginner project. I will send you the beginner stitches to practice with and then you can try out a simpler project.

  • Ilove your work... thanks for sending those beautifull works!!!

  • I learned how to crochet with your tuturials. thank you so much Teresa. I made this hat in an hour, it is beautiful, I love it. Thanks alot

  • In the beginning i cant find the six ''chain one space'' i only see 3 and that doesnt work because of that...

    Daija

    Ps Ur my Hero lol

  • i wished you had a more detailed tutorial of this because i can't follow it

  • Hello Teresa, I'm a big fan! :D thank you for your lovely videos. I just have one question. for this particular hat, how can i make it a bit wider? i have tried different yarns, but the finish product is still a bit small for my big head. :( which round should i repeat and how many times do i have to do it to get the right fit? thank you so much. :D God bless.

  • @annomyar i believe its round 6 that has the 3 single sets of three double crochet and an increase, if you just do another round of increases, 4 single sets and an increase, and than 5 single sets and an increase, and so on to fit your head, than continue on with round seven and so on, hope it was helpful!(:

  • Thank you so much ,this hat was so easy to make , you are a great teacher , i did this hat lefthanded

  • thankkkssss. its lovely

  • I love love love this hat!! I think it's really easy to make and also it's super cute I made one and I love how it turned out. :D thank you sooooooooooooooooo much for this video.

    Eva

    Greece

  • I love your tutorials! This is one of the very first video tutorials I watched . I'm on my third hat now. Thank you for sharing your talent :)

  • U do know that who is watching this is because they dnt know how to do it :/. Ur hat is beautiful but I lost u in the very beginning didn't understand ur instructions at all.

  • Mine doesn't look like yours :(

  • k padre me encanta no habra manera de k las indicaciones los diera en español digo es k esta muy hermosa y me gustaria aprender hacerla

  • I stared learning crochet watching your tutorial and I am working in a pattern for a baby hat. As a beginers I am having trouble reading patters. The pattern look very similar to this hat, but is telling me to do "Slst into space before next dc" this is right after a join in the 2nd round. Would you be able to help me! Thanks.

    Marcia

  • I'm going to make this tonight with worseted organic cotton yarn. Hopefully it will be warm enough for fall/early winter. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • just finished this, the pattern is great!! Thanks

  • Why are all of your written instruction defaulting to Crochet Mushroom Chapstick Necklace?

I love your tutorials but as I am learning to read patterns I like to have a copy to refer to.

  • @luckygirl2u It should go to the pattern. If you open the video details you will see the full pattern in the video details.

  • If you finish round 2 and don't goany farther you can make some decorative coasters.

  • Sent you the video response!... i think I did... hmm let me know

  • @novakTeddyLOVA I have approved the video responses

  • wow my hat turned out awesome. made less rounds at the end I didn't want the band so thick. Still great tutorial!

  • looooove this! almost done making mine!

  • AWESOME! so simple to follow my hat came out AWESOME !! <3

  • @novakTeddyLOVA Please share a video response or a picture.

  • I really like your video´s but I really don´t understand this video. Because (I'm sorry if you don't understand my English isn't very good) one time you do every crochet (I don't know the word) and the other time you leave 3 open and then do the next one. Do you understand? And your going very fast :#

  • @xLienFantasy The stitches you are talking about are increase stitches

  • You are the best teacher of all crochet teacher. hope you could do a toletoral on how to make a flower purse. I love your.

  • Hi tjw1963 I was wondering when you said in round 12 "if the cap is too small on the band work less crochet decreases" How would I go about doing that without messing up the cap? Other than that thank you so much! You literally taught me how to crochet in 4 days just from this video alone. You are a goddess!

  • Great video! I made the hat and its perfect, thanks to your video.... However I need a matching scarf for this hat and I do not know how to crochet the same pattern for that.... Can you, please, tell me just how to start the first round and then I will continue by myself easilly, since it will not have increases and decreases, beacue it is a scarf? Thanx in advance :)

  • Thanx for all ur
