  • they never quite gave their whole souls to their live performances, and that's okay

  • Pavement- 186,00 Views

    Rebecca Black-20 million+ Views

No wonder music sucks now a days.

  • @bobohobo12 no. you don't compare a shitty artist from the 2010's to a good artist from the 90's. i could easily say the 90's were crappy compared to the 2000's because the 90's had nsync and the 2000's had the white stripes. but the 90's weren't crappy and neither is today's music (or at least some of it, for both the 90's and 2000's)

  • I went to a pavement show at bogarts in cinci, I literally passed out during the first song. I smoked some weed but I am a pot head so that doesn't make much sense. Must have been laced with some sort of chemical. I was in line to buy a water when out of no where I fell, next thing I know some dude is dragging me up some stairs, tossed me in a chair and handed me a free water.

  • Let me tell you

I'd be fucking cumming for 3 hours if I made those concerts. Real Talk.

  • Man, that crowd looks awesome! Having looked at the Pavement gigs from last year, I can definitely say that the fans have gotten worse!

  • @KnfRaw

I had a simialr experience. When I saw them last year the crowd was pretty much dead...:(

  • 2 words:

    gary. young.

  • Looking for some new original music??? check out my band at this channel. We got a 90's/grungy sound, influenced by bands like Pixies, QOSTA, and Nirvana.

  • Is this their regular drummer on a really good day or a different one?

  • is that gary young playing drums? did not look like nice guy with knit cap later... steve?

  • Drop D with most bands=ewwwwww.

Drop D with Pavement, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden=Yay.

  • @PGROSYE02 ugh, plz don't group pavement with pearl jam and soundgarden. blasphemy imo

  • @derpinator1 meh. I could understand why you would say that about pearl jam cuz they just get a lot of hate, but Soundgarden??? You gotta admit they were easily one of the most talented and unique bands of the 90's.

  • @PGROSYE02

Everything you say = fuck off.

  • @PGROSYE02 Drop D is my favorite tuning. Lots of lovely ways to express chords that you just can't get in standard. Should also mention that it's used in a lot of folk music. But yeah Pavement use it so well.

  • I'm glad I saw them like ten times. such good shows.

  • @aliencrap Seen them eight or nine times as well including their first ever London show in 1992 and had a letter published about in the New Musical Express captioned Kerb Crawler (true)! There is so much love for this band.

  • Where the hell did this come from, AWESOME!

  • I just recently stumbled across Pavement and wow ... they went from "who the fook are those guys?" to "wow, I love this band soooo much ... sadly I missed the reunion tour :("

  • @BillyOfOckham how much do you like them now?

  • @byroncoley Well ... what could I say? Pavement has been a reliable companion ever since. I know nearly every song from the heart and jump on every bit of information about Pavement / Stephen Malkmus ... this is some kind of disease you never want to get rid of :D

  • @BillyOfOckham cool man

  • Is this from the show included on the Slanted Reissue?

  • @Robinhoodarch no this is from the 92 transmusicales fest in france

  • 10 people are stupid

  • japanese band Rokujyouma Pop like Pavement!

  • they are so fucking epic live i saw the in central park front center best shit ever!!! 8)

  • Think of how good they'd sound if they had someone who could sing.

  • @RootsinBrooklyn they do, and it does.

  • @BIGMAYNEGREGG

Not here ...they don't ! And it doesn't.

  • from 2:00 onward spiral stairs is God.

  • nirvana is ok.

    pavement is amazing.

  • @danielibertine

Nirvana is more than ok, they diserve more credit than that.

  • Comment removed

  • @tubbythug92 @tubbythug92 ok, if nirvana is more than ok.. then pavement is more than more than ok, now you see my point.

  • @danielibertine

The point being..Nirvana and Pavement are great bands that made great music. That's the true point.

  • @tubbythug92 alright, sir.

  • @danielibertine you sound like an elitist knob that just got his first taste of underground music and thnks he's cool.

  • @roejogan8

I think I'll become an elitist knob.

  • @RootsinBrooklyn do it man. everyone else is. damn hipsters.

  • @RootsinBrooklyn More elitists = less crappy music. Start with Pavement or Radiohead and work your way up to Krautrock and Japanese noise!

  • @Phelsuma04 if by japanese noise you mean the boredoms, you are so right dude

  • @roejogan8

I think we all know who the REAL elitist is, here. >_>

    Dyohoho. :P

  • @ybrik222 explain yourself. i love all kinds of music. i'm FAR from an elitist.

  • @danielibertine hipster! everyone look at me, i don't like anything popular or that other people say is good.

  • this is the best band from stockton

  • most amazing performance i've ever seen in a youtube video of any song by any band

  • pop n rock ! so cool! I like pevement.

  • Who are the eight weirdos who gave this video a thumbs-down?

  • @bluenoserr they were probably on their way to click thumbs up but then their minds got blown

  • Ooo yeah!

  • Wait

  • I heared this amazing song for the first time at Roskilde 2010. Gives me shivers down my spine! Well done!

  • I usually feel pretty cool blasting this tune in my car, but this version gives a real charge! Thank God for Pavement!

  • Just got into them and I am blown away. Slanted & Enchanted is giving all my Nirvana Albums a run for they're money.

  • @ItsGettingColder1

Fuck you, Nirvana were fucking amazing.

  • @tubbythug92 nirvana ARE fucking amazing saying was is like saying they were but they suck now

  • @11joshman

    He knows what I mean.

  • @tubbythug92 but still

  • @tubbythug92 Nirvana sucked until they got Grohl on drums... Bleach sucks...

  • @BrianCulticeMusic

Are you kidding me? Bleach is one of their rawest albums. Sorry but saying they sucked until Grohl came around is just pure ignorance...He didn't do the songwriting.

  • @BrianCulticeMusic bleach sucks?

i support you need a lobotomy.

  • @redcereal12 Listen to the band, Wussy.

  • @redcereal12

    Beh, not enough variety.

  • @redcereal12 incredible how many of my favorite bands you just named

  • @redcereal12

ya maybe ur a fuckin idiot then...

  • @redcereal12 + Neutral Milk Hotel

  • @redcereal12 Add Muse, Mother Love Bone, and The Killers to that list and I wholeheartedly agree with you. But seriously, that list was amazing.

  • @redcereal12 Add Built to Spill, Arcade Fire, Yo la Tengo, and Neutral Milk Hotel and that list is perfect.

  • @redcereal12

Oh gee the reading list for Indie Rock 101 **fart**

  • @hoot504

  • @redcereal12 Fucking YES!

  • @redcereal12 list is perfect if arcadfire white stripes mgmt and animal collective are added

  • @redcereal12 I know no one my age in my entire town who has even heard of all these bands let alone likes them all. Proves I live in a shit town haha.

  • @redcereal12 This is very similar to my own list. Good job.

  • top alt rock bands of all time

    nirvana

    pixies

    radiohead

    dinosaur jr.

    modest mouse

    pavement

  • @ratmfan223344 not bad

  • @ratmfan223344 what about alice in chains??

  • @ratmfan223344 plus Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine. Perfect.

  • @ratmfan223344 just add the flaming lips and you're good.

  • @ratmfan223344 i just wanted to say man, this is the exact same list i would have

  • @ratmfan223344 That order's a little sloppy. Let me help you with that.

    Pixies

    Pavement

    Radiohead

    Modest Mouse

    Dinosaur Jr.

    Nirvana

  • @MEYERS3000 Can we replace Radiohead and Modest Mouse with Archers of Loaf and R.E.M.?

  • @anshuduncecapholder I suppose we could replace MM with REM. Radiohead's absolutely staying, though.

  • @MEYERS3000 + many many other bands. i guess i'm the only one here that doesn't just listen to indie/alternative rock

  • @catfeces

    Radiohead. =D

  • Comment removed

  • Perfect, perfect, perfect.

  • These guys are definitely one of the five greatest bands ever. Right up there with the pixies, dinosaur jr, the flaming lips, and some other band.

  • fugazi

  • @catfeces the other band is Ween

  • @dirtyfoxduster my two favorite bands of all time: Pavement and Ween. Sometimes I forget that they're pretty much exact contemporaries.

  • @iamthepinkylifter ti tako! they will take over the world some day with their mind controlling chemtrails. my friend is selling his chicago ween ticket for 40 bucks, i forget when its happening though. wonder if he'll take food stamps.....

  • ...called Sonic Youth

  • "some other band" is my favorite band

  • This isn't the winter version :(

  • best

  • My summer babe........

  • fuck this ist best version of summer babe! how did they do it?

  • Wow! Just so right!

  • even better live?

  • great great great great great

  • lofi so fly

  • also check the fill at 2:11

  • year?

  • I think this is the version that was on the Slanted and Enchanted Luxe and Reduxe.

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right. If we're right that means it's from their show at the Brixton Academy, London, Dec. 14, 1992.

  • thanks wikipedia!

  • Comment removed

  • '92

  • One of the best bands of all time I'd say. So raw.

  • so much better than the studio version

  • Agreed!

  • Does anyone know what key they did this in? I'm trying to tab out the solo right after the first verse.

  • its in the key of awesome

  • It's D, the verse is D, A, G. I-IV-V. Have fun. I love Malk's oddball solos, he uses the same kinda weird linear lead playing I do.

  • I BELIVE ITS ACTUALLY I-V-IV.

which is obviously just a minor typo i'm just joshin'

  • Pavement ahhhh. The most original indie band ever! So famous, yet infamous. Cut your hair was their only radio hit but I love pavement. Weezer= rip off pavement. Steven malkmus is the man and I love this band. 5 stars on allmusic ;)

  • Everyone who says that has only heard Two States and certainly hasn't heard any of Wowee Zowee. Mark E Smith doesn't hold a candle to SM or Spiral Stairs.

  • Most songs from the Slanted and Enchanted era (notable exceptions in Zurich is Stained, are profoundly influenced by The Fall, though I agree--Pavement made much effort to distance themselves from that sound later in there career. My comment was a bit harsh, as hearing Pavement described as the most original indie band ever didn't seem right to me.

Also, "Two States" isn't the best example: "Jackals: False Grails," and "Conduit For Sale" are quasi-re-workings of "New Face In Hell" by The Fall.

  • i was just talking to my friend about how weezer was somewhat of a knockoff of pavement trying to be a very original band. love both bands but gotta say pavement>weezer by a long shot

  • I've never loved any other band more than I love Pavement

  • I love it <3

  • what a band!!

  • year?

  • probably '92, gary was still there

  • takes me back..........enchanted xx

  • What guitar is Malkmus using? I like that tone.

  • It looks like a stratocaster.

  • This is their best song hands down

  • fuck off

  • isso é bom demais!

  • Excellent quality, where did this vid come from?

  • If I'm not mistaken, it was filmed by MTV Europe. Ran as a video over there.

  • As the first track on Slanted and Enchanted, this is the first Pavement I ever heard. I actually misheard it and thought it was called "Some Obey", a diatribe against social control, but it's good either way. Malkmus is a genuine, actual, creative genius and the band one of the greatest ever.

  • perfect.

  • thanks so much for posting. love it. love them!

  • Those stupid lights detract from the songs incredible amazingness. Still good

  • no words can describe the radness

  • I like the studio version but this version or the one they got on the extended/Bonus Slanted and Enchanted I like better.

    Its sounds amazing

  • I just watch this like10 times in a row. Brilliant!!!

  • They looks like students))) I LOVE them!

  • GY's roll at 2:11 - so subtle...so perfect...

  • what the hell are you saying about? roll? he is jumping... its not subtle.....

  • you're talking about the performance - i'm talking about the fill.

  • the lights...?

  • Man I agree with you.

He is talking about the drum fill, for the people that are still off.

GY is Gary Young their drummer.

Pavement is my favorite band in the world.

  • FUCKIN AMAZING SHIT.

  • man, they look so cool

aww the vibes they send out is real

  • I'm fairly certain this is from the 1992 Transmusicales Festival

  • yeah it sure is, i was there and i'm 99 percent sure it's live at Rennes

  • gd i love this song!

  • play. repeat. play. repeat. play. repeat. play. repeat

Can't stop listening, one of the best songs ever

  • Hey if you like this check out my vid and leave a comment - I REALLY wanna know what the public think about my tunes. My band are 'The Caribbeans'. You will love it!!!!

I think this song is fuckin great by the way! Dont think they are together anymore are they?
