@bobohobo12 no. you don't compare a shitty artist from the 2010's to a good artist from the 90's. i could easily say the 90's were crappy compared to the 2000's because the 90's had nsync and the 2000's had the white stripes. but the 90's weren't crappy and neither is today's music (or at least some of it, for both the 90's and 2000's)
I went to a pavement show at bogarts in cinci, I literally passed out during the first song. I smoked some weed but I am a pot head so that doesn't make much sense. Must have been laced with some sort of chemical. I was in line to buy a water when out of no where I fell, next thing I know some dude is dragging me up some stairs, tossed me in a chair and handed me a free water.
Looking for some new original music??? check out my band at this channel. We got a 90's/grungy sound, influenced by bands like Pixies, QOSTA, and Nirvana.
@derpinator1 meh. I could understand why you would say that about pearl jam cuz they just get a lot of hate, but Soundgarden??? You gotta admit they were easily one of the most talented and unique bands of the 90's.
@PGROSYE02 Drop D is my favorite tuning. Lots of lovely ways to express chords that you just can't get in standard. Should also mention that it's used in a lot of folk music. But yeah Pavement use it so well.
@aliencrap Seen them eight or nine times as well including their first ever London show in 1992 and had a letter published about in the New Musical Express captioned Kerb Crawler (true)! There is so much love for this band.
I just recently stumbled across Pavement and wow ... they went from "who the fook are those guys?" to "wow, I love this band soooo much ... sadly I missed the reunion tour :("
@byroncoley Well ... what could I say? Pavement has been a reliable companion ever since. I know nearly every song from the heart and jump on every bit of information about Pavement / Stephen Malkmus ... this is some kind of disease you never want to get rid of :D
Are you kidding me? Bleach is one of their rawest albums. Sorry but saying they sucked until Grohl came around is just pure ignorance...He didn't do the songwriting.
@redcereal12 I know no one my age in my entire town who has even heard of all these bands let alone likes them all. Proves I live in a shit town haha.
@iamthepinkylifter ti tako! they will take over the world some day with their mind controlling chemtrails. my friend is selling his chicago ween ticket for 40 bucks, i forget when its happening though. wonder if he'll take food stamps.....
Pavement ahhhh. The most original indie band ever! So famous, yet infamous. Cut your hair was their only radio hit but I love pavement. Weezer= rip off pavement. Steven malkmus is the man and I love this band. 5 stars on allmusic ;)
Pavement also admittedly ripped off of a post-punk band called The Fall, particularly a few albums from the late 70's-early 80's. They did improve the sound, though, removing a lot of the unnecessary dark-and-twistedness associated with the post-punk movement and taking the excessive reverb out of the production.
Hex Enduction Hour still sounds quite a bit like Slanted and Enchanted, though.
Everyone who says that has only heard Two States and certainly hasn't heard any of Wowee Zowee. Mark E Smith doesn't hold a candle to SM or Spiral Stairs.
Most songs from the Slanted and Enchanted era (notable exceptions in Zurich is Stained, are profoundly influenced by The Fall, though I agree--Pavement made much effort to distance themselves from that sound later in there career. My comment was a bit harsh, as hearing Pavement described as the most original indie band ever didn't seem right to me.
Also, "Two States" isn't the best example: "Jackals: False Grails," and "Conduit For Sale" are quasi-re-workings of "New Face In Hell" by The Fall.
i was just talking to my friend about how weezer was somewhat of a knockoff of pavement trying to be a very original band. love both bands but gotta say pavement>weezer by a long shot
