@PunjabiMunda725 DON'T FORMAT if you want to recover data. Probably best to find a local expert. There are tools you can get online but always better to "learn" on a drive you don't care about.
I bought this cord the other day and i plugged in a sata harddrive and it made a clicking noise. Before i put it on it was working fine.It had windows loaded but windows was corrupt so i wanted to get the cord to format it first. Is it possible that the cord burned it out. And can you make a video on how to use it with a sata laptop drive thank you in advance.
@splinxes On my YouTube channel I have other videos under "Data Recovery". "How To Connect Laptop Hard Drive to PC for Diagnostics" connects a SATA drive, but it's really no different, just using the other cable.
My computer is a Acer Aspire - model # ms2253 Intel® Pentium® dual-core mobile processor T3200/T3400 (1 MB L2 Cache, 2/2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 35 W), supporting Intel® 64 architecture and so this is what its doin it would only half boot and freeze on the 1st screen then all you can do is go to set up utility or bios menu F2 , then when you exit it says : PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAIL CHECK CABLEPXE-MOF : EXITING PXE ROM OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND any help or do you think this product would help here?
@PERSEVERANCESWORLD Try using the windows 7 x64 installation CD and run the the startup repair feature it's a good tool for non-booting operating systems works most of the time
I bought this adapter, it worked fine with an IDE drive.
But when I tried it with the SATA drive I really wanted to use it on, the drive fails to spin and makes a clicking noise. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
I got a 3.5'' and 2.5'' internal hard drives that I need to access via USB. So it's just plug and play right? Right now this thing is only $15 on Amazon. I'm ordering one today!
Any tips on why my IDE HD is not visible in Windows Explorer? I can see it in the device manager but cannot figure out how to get the data off it. Thanks.
@GrahamHorgan Depends on what you mean by burned out and fried. The hard drive MUST be operative to get data without sending it off to an expensive data recovery service.
If the hard drive ENCLOSURE is inoperative, then fine, take the HD out and connect with the Vantec adapter.
@FreeCompConsultant I plugged my hardrive into my USB external harddrive device. My computer reads other drives from it but it wont read the drive im trying to recover the data from. The drive wont boot in any other computer and freezes on starting windows. When I plugged the drive into my computer via external hardrive device it asked me to format the drive. Then an error message popped up and said "Cyclic redundancy check data erro" Will I still be able to recover my data from that drive?
@1patrat Yes, I have used this method to CLEAN a virus filled drive when it would not boot because of boot-virus. Just make sure your A/V is running when you hook it up. Recommend trying to hook up AFTER computer is running and A/V is operable. Make sure (in BIOS) that you will NOT attempt boot from USB.
Can I take power for a 3.5" drive from the desktop PSU without any power adapters and just put the data cable into the drive and place the USB end at my laptop, as to read the 3.5" on the laptop?
@FreeCompConsultant I guess the harddrive must have died, because it wasn't recognised at all. Unless there's a problem somewhere else, but I've done everything. Wish I could get the data off it... :(
i hav a mac .....it died yesterday im trying to back up my stuff.....it had mac os and win vista ...i bought this adapter today ......is there a way to get my info out only if i hav access to a win vista laptop
@CrazieDiva972 You should be able to with a program call 'macdrive'. If you do not want to spend money on macdrive, google for free alternative to macdrive or open source macdrive
I have this Vantec US adapter, it comes with a mini CD but the driver is for windows 98. I tried to connect to a HDD regular size but the adapter does not help at all. Here is what I found. Using same type of adapter but made or sold by CABLESTOGO this adapter actually sees the device either as I: or X: but not the vantec. so not all adapters are good. I will do another test with SIIG adapter which has USB 3.00 speed.
@DiErVoNmAnE If Windows has crashed but the hard drive is physically OK, then this will work.
If the hard drive will not spin up or be recognized by the computer's BIOS then no.
For instance, if the computer starts to boot from the drive, then locks up on a black screen or a Windows Blue Screen Of Death, then you PROBABLY can get the data.
@FreeCompConsultant Thanks for the info. What if the HDD is not detected by the computer at all? what other tools can one employ to recover the data. I believe there must be some around the market
@DeadWorldPortable If you search down the page, you will see we have covered PS3 before; they are encrypted, Sony likes to screw people out of their data. Never put data on a PlayStation, only copies of data you have elsewhere under your own control.
Nice video! Just went to Frys Electronics and bought the Vantec device. You should mention that for older ATA Laptop HDD of 2003, you dont need to feed it power from the AC adapter... i mean you cant anyways. It will use the power from your USB port, of the PC you transfer to, to power itself.
@huntaaa00 Click the link in the description to the video for the USB hard drive adapter. I just don't know if the xbox 360 drive is encrypted, you might want to google first.
@mikegamez77 Clicking is NOT good. Does the BIOS recognize the drive when the PC boots? If so, you MIGHT be able to grab some data from the good sections of the drive - but NOT if the PC won't recognize the drive.
@FreeCompConsultant i figured i wouldnt but was worth a shot lol...no the laptop is not recognizing the hd and it crashes as soon as bios starts up and it searches for the os on the hd...so ill just have to write off the data on the hd huh lol
Brief but cleared up some questions--not all, however. PC HD to Mac.
--
And a basic Q: Does "3.5" drive" refer to diameter of the internal disc, right? Not external long dimension of the case? Simple things like that are overlooked by tech wizards.
@ranhat2 Works on Mac, I've attached a PC hard drive and viewed files on MacBook Pro. 3.5" is standard for a desktop PC; 2.5" is standard for a laptop.
@FreeCompConsultant So if I buy this that mean if one my PC is broken whether it's a laptop or a pc, I can just take the hardrive out and connect this thing to a working pc, and it will give me access to all the files that are in the hardrive? Will this work on all hardrive? Please confirm. I need something like this in the near future.

If i format the hard drive is it gonna erase completely everything from the hard drive im trying to recover files from? thank you
@Juniorp1988 Formatting will wipe out the drive. To say much more it would help to know the history of the drive. The easiest next step is to try it on another PC if possible.

A while back i got a technician round to sort out my computer because the hard drive failed, we used this same adapter to try and recovery data but for ages the laptop we were using wouldn't recognize the Hard drive. However towards the end he tried some sort of freeware partition software via the laptop to help see the data and indeed it worked! so the data is there but i cannot begin to think what that partition software may have been, Would you have any idea what it might be???
@mrconcept for some reason im thinking Magic Partition or something along those lines, but im still not sure, i cant contact him anymore.. Something Partition related that would help my laptop see the partitions on that external hard drive.. Please help :(
@FreeCompConsultant i connect a hard drive with the 2.5. my desktop reads the hard drive, i can eject it and its in my device manager, but i cant open it. its currently drive F: when i try to open it, it stop responding.. please help =)
Thank you for this helpful video. My PC hard drive recently failed. I have another computer that I can transfer the data to, but it's a MacBook. I'm guessing that won't work? Help would be greatly appreciated :)
I have the same Vantec adapter that I have connected to a Hitachi Hard Drive, ATA/IDE, Model DK23EA-40, however I've been experiecing an issue when I access the F:Drive where this hard drive is located after I connect it to a different PC. It reads the hard drive and views a few folders, however won't show anything. Does that mean the files are erased even if the hard drive if healthy?
I am looking to solely copy the data from this hard drive onto a PC
@AcceptTheReal I would try a different USB port on the PC (one on the back is often more reliable than one on the front. Try a different PC. Perhaps change the drive letter; it's not conflicting with another device drive letter at all, is it (such as a mapped drive)?
@D12WorldNight Thanks for the Reply, The reason is because I have a IDE that is 500GIG and has a lot of stuff on it, and the motherboard I have only supports SATA.
@nitrospide Sony screwed us all over by encrypting the drives. Then they encourage us to store valuable photos, etc on it, then they make backup difficult.
I wish I had better news. Certainly someone somewhere knows how to break the code...
this product is much better than thoses hdd docks. i find those docks are cheaply made, and i have had one shut off while i was in the middle of file transfer
Sir question here. Does using Vantec USB SATA IDE Hard Drive Adapter will run the 3.5 HDD on my laptop? i mean does the 3.5 HDD boots after i plug it in?
@OnePiece51213 If your laptop supports USB boot, you can change the boot sequence in the BIOS and make it boot from that drive.
Keep in mind that you probably won't boot to Windows on that drive due to the correct drivers for your laptop not being installed on that copy of Windows.
@OnePiece51213 Try another USB port, see if it works on another PC. Maybe it just is not assigning a drive letter. I have another video on USB drive letter missing.
So I have a 1 TB SATA drive that was in an external enclosure (Buffalo product, but using a Western Digital HD)...the HD would be accessed via USB, but it stopped working recently. Can i still get the data off the HD using this method?
i almost lost my xbox info by making a partition on it. but didnt. thank god. I did use this product to extract 30 gb's of mp3's from a HD that had a needle that would work sometimes and sometimes not. it also had a corrupt nto.skrnl file so after i used this AMAZING product i threw the HD in the trash! (recycled) Great reveiw very informative man
@zacatetas From what I understand, yes. I do not have an xbox but it appears to be a normal SATA hard drive formatted with a Windows readable partition.
do you no of another one that yu can d the same but you can get it in the uk since amazon does not seem 2 ship to here and i really need somthing lk this but great vid
I just purchased this and I'm using it to recover data from a Playstation 3 Sata internal hard drive. I plugged everything up as you said but it will not show up.
My nephew heard of my PC trouble with HDs. He offered a spare PC and this adapter for my use. It is so easy and valuable, I couldn't pass up getting one of my own. There was only one plug type I needed for a removable HD my HP Pavilion had/s(its dead). The plug is half an inch square or less with 4pins and a flat MB connector on the other end. I went to the PC store to pick up a combo to make it fit. When I was plugin in it all, I noticed the plug is the same as my printers plug! Oops. Power ON
@sabbygee1 It lost the MBR or some other initializing strap. There used to be a switch to use with Format that repaired just theMaster Boot Record,,, but I forgot that undocumented switch.
@FreeCompConsultant Yes, IED is what I meant. Sorry. The adapter does plug into the drive perfectly but that's it. There is no way to plug power anywhere.
@DigitalGangsterz Sir, you ask, "Does it work on HP's SATA hard drive?!!"
I have a dead HP Pavilion Media center with a SATA. Why yes it does as soon as it is powered up. Now I have a 'removable SATA' for my added pleasure and transferability to other house holds. It is like a huge flash drive now with this adapter.
im having issues on the drive actualy showing up on "my computer" but does show in device management. wheres the video showing this issue and how to solve it?
@chino07brown ",,,drive actualy showing up on "my computer" but does show in device management. wheres the video showing this issue and how to solve it?"

I just used this on two old drives I pulled from my dead pc...I had a few headaches, but in the end it worked well. At first, I couldn`t get access to the data - device not ready, unknown drive, etc. So I unplugged everything, then I went power cable - turn it on - ide - usb in that order and finally it worked. I think the connection must have been bad, I don`t know, but it was frustrating. I had ownership issues on another drive but some more googling got me through it. Cool little product.
Thank you. This is exactly what I need. I have two old IDE hard drives and a new computer that is SATA only. I was hoping that something like this existed. I'm sure my new one TB hard drive will happily absorb the files I want to keep from my old 12 and 40 GB hard drives.
Just bought this product tried it and it works great. It is almost identical to the one we use at work, so that is why I went ahead and bought it. Very good product for a very good price.
Hi i saw your video yesterday. i do have the same adapter. when i connect my ide hard drive i hear a sound that comes normally we connect any device to USB. after that i open my computer to look for the drive is not there. normally when we connect to usb the autoplay will open immediately. in my case it didn't happen also idon't see the external drive that i connect with adapter is not there would you pls help me.

Yo dood, do as you are told and the only way is to trash your comment completely.
For your own good, auto-scanners browse the entire internet looking for these things written onto web pages just like ggggle does for ordinary web pages to list in their DB.

this is a really helpful video. i am trying to rescue files from an old laptop that runs windows 98. are there any extra steps (e.g. driver installation) needed for windows 98?
hey man thnks for this but do i need to just buy that one thing from Amazon or do i need to buy extras such as a power lead etc? I have two faulty hard drives i need to extract the data.
Thanks for the video man. I see the Vantec on Amazon, but it only shows the main part and not the power plugs/additional adaptors you demonstrate. Im not sure if i need to buy the "frequently bought together" items aswell? Please help. I have two hard drives that need recovering, one is about four years old the other is a Seagate Expansion external which apparently has a Baracudda inside of it... What extra do i buy?
Your video is good, you explain everything very clear and easy to understand. Great job.
I do have one question, you mention in the video if your drive does not show up as a new drive or letter and you have another video that can explain how to tackle this problem. Where can I view this video, what is it titled? I am stuck.
In my possession i have a dell XPS gaming laptop. It's monitor and backup graphics card no-longer works. I have had a look at the Hard-drive and I believe it's a 2.5 drive. Would this device be-able to salvage my data of it? I believe it's a SATA drive. Please help me.

What can I do?
Thanks
AcceptTheReal 1 year ago
@AcceptTheReal I would try a different USB port on the PC (one on the back is often more reliable than one on the front. Try a different PC. Perhaps change the drive letter; it's not conflicting with another device drive letter at all, is it (such as a mapped drive)?
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
What if you forgot your computer password and you need to access the files, can this work for that situation?
PLEASE REPLY

@510prodz Should work, you just have to take ownership of the files which is easy to do.

@FreeCompConsultant Yeah, I can do that

Is it possible to boot up your OS from your heard drive using this adapter?
D12WorldNight 1 year ago
@D12WorldNight If the BIOS supports it I suppose you could, but I don't know why you would want to.
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
@D12WorldNight Thanks for the Reply, The reason is because I have a IDE that is 500GIG and has a lot of stuff on it, and the motherboard I have only supports SATA.
D12WorldNight 1 year ago
i bought this about a month ago and after messing with some of the security and stuff, i managed to make it work :D...i really recommend it as well.

before buying the usb adapter. can i recover my files from broken windows hard-drive using a mac computer?
Coxfame 1 year ago
@nitrospide Sony screwed us all over by encrypting the drives. Then they encourage us to store valuable photos, etc on it, then they make backup difficult.
I wish I had better news. Certainly someone somewhere knows how to break the code...

Sir question here. Does using Vantec USB SATA IDE Hard Drive Adapter will run the 3.5 HDD on my laptop? i mean does the 3.5 HDD boots after i plug it in?
OnePiece51213 1 year ago
@OnePiece51213 If your laptop supports USB boot, you can change the boot sequence in the BIOS and make it boot from that drive.
Keep in mind that you probably won't boot to Windows on that drive due to the correct drivers for your laptop not being installed on that copy of Windows.
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
@FreeCompConsultant
Right now im using R-Drive III USB SATA/IDE HD Adapter. when i plugged it in i can't see my 3.5HD on my laptop.
OS: Win7 Home Premium
Please help me sir.
OnePiece51213 1 year ago
@OnePiece51213 Try another USB port, see if it works on another PC. Maybe it just is not assigning a drive letter. I have another video on USB drive letter missing.

So I have a 1 TB SATA drive that was in an external enclosure (Buffalo product, but using a Western Digital HD)...the HD would be accessed via USB, but it stopped working recently. Can i still get the data off the HD using this method?

@soualigacapoeira Depends on what stopped.... If the actual hard drive is still functional, then yes.

Oops. Power ON

it says "Disk4" needs to be initialized before being used?

@sabbygee1 It lost the MBR or some other initializing strap. There used to be a switch to use with Format that repaired just theMaster Boot Record,,, but I forgot that undocumented switch.

Just purchased and tried this product. It doesn't work with laptop IED drives...or at least I cant figure it out with that kind of drive.
ImportKnight13 1 year ago
@ImportKnight13 Do you mean IDE? Does the adapter plug onto the drive?
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
@FreeCompConsultant Yes, IED is what I meant. Sorry. The adapter does plug into the drive perfectly but that's it. There is no way to plug power anywhere.
ImportKnight13 1 year ago
@ImportKnight13 You don't need to plug in power with a laptop IDE drive and that adapter; it gets power from the adapter.
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
@FreeCompConsultant Oh...well, then I guess its not registering it. Do I need to mess with jumpers?

@DigitalGangsterz Sir, you ask, "Does it work on HP's SATA hard drive?!!"
I have a dead HP Pavilion Media center with a SATA. Why yes it does as soon as it is powered up. Now I have a 'removable SATA' for my added pleasure and transferability to other house holds. It is like a huge flash drive now with this adapter.

Cool little product.
channelswimmer 1 year ago
Thank you. This is exactly what I need. I have two old IDE hard drives and a new computer that is SATA only. I was hoping that something like this existed. I'm sure my new one TB hard drive will happily absorb the files I want to keep from my old 12 and 40 GB hard drives.

@FreeCompConsultant "where I use an adapter to connect the drive to the ribbon cable and PSU inside the case."
I've been in desperate places where I've nearly reached for a wire-wrap tool to make it work.
SlackerSlayer 1 year ago
@ThereLars The ribbon cable inside does not use the same pin layout as a 2.5" hard drive, so you need an adapter.
UNLESS you are talking about a SATA hard drive. I guess I should have asked which you have SATA or IDE??
FreeCompConsultant 1 year ago
@FreeCompConsultant Thanks for a fast reply - again! :D Sorry, I should have mentioned it... It is a Sata hard drive. :P

@ThereLars Then you should be able to just connect it normally. One connector for power, the other for data.

Yo dood, do as you are told and the only way is to trash your comment completely.
For your own good, auto-scanners browse the entire internet looking for these things written onto web pages just like ggggle does for ordinary web pages to list in their DB.

Nothing's impossible, but I consider it very safe.
You are only working with connectors operating at 5 or 12 volts.

Thanks for the video man. I see the Vantec on Amazon, but it only shows the main part and not the power plugs/additional adaptors you demonstrate. Im not sure if i need to buy the "frequently bought together" items aswell? Please help. I do have one question, you mention in the video if your drive does not show up as a new drive or letter and you have another video that can explain how to tackle this problem. Where can I view this video, what is it titled? I am stuck.
