Japan is a island country and 70% of the land are wild woods and mountains where people can not live so from ancient time we have ate fish as a main source of proteins.

My grandmothers generation had not eaten 4 legs creature like cows before western culture have came. Because they thought it was cruel.

What people should eat or not is depends on the environment they surrounded.

We should not think it as same in every country.

Fish is a great source of protein, and 70% of the world depends on fish for their food supply. It's true, the American food system is incredibly disgusting, which is why a growing number of people refuse to eat meat in this country.

However, the reason so many animals are killed in America is because there is a huge demand for their meat. In Japan, there is almost no demand for dolphin meat, because it tastes bad and it is unhealthy. So why must so many of them be killed?

I think this movie is a biased one. You have to know a movie have strong power to brainwash people. If I had made a movie about slaughter of cows with full of splatter scene and shown it to the people who dont eat cows, I would easily can have the big power to stop eating cows. That's true, most Japanese people don't eat dolphins. That's a big reason why the annual killing of thousands of dolphins is so awful, because not only is the meat not eaten by the majority of Japanese people, but it's loaded with mercury.

There is nothing wrong with eating fish (though overfishing is becoming a problem for the environment worldwide). However, dolphins are not fish, they are mammals. I don't know why you think the film promotes violence; it's quite obviously anti-violence.

I think japanese media brainwash their people, and they got more 'strong power' to do so because they tell their people the thing the government wants their people to know and not the truth. As great as Ric O' Barry is for all his efforts, it was short sighted to pull that sign out as soon as they hit the stage. That's what got Louie's speech cut , and they missed a chance for millions of people to hear this awesome message. What wasn't he thinking?! This was the stage they wanted, what a shame. Shouldve held it up at the end. The oscars are notorious for clamping down on demonstrations like that.

I'd say Japanese fishermen have similar backgrounds and are prominent in fishing. By definition it's a mafia. And in the sense of engaging in criminal-like activities as well. They pointed out in the film that it's not all Japanese fishermen and in fact most of Japan is unaware of the slaughter.

So because cows being slaughtered is wrong, dolphin slaughter isn't? You can't cover every problem with food production worldwide in one movie. And all movies contain bias--it begins even when the filmmaker decides what to point their camera at and what not to. Not to sidetrack too much either, but dolphins are significantly more intelligent then cows (although I personally abstain from eating both, so I'm not saying a lack of intelligence is justification).

I was so disappointed that Fisher Stevens never mentioned the dolphins in his Oscar acceptance speech--what a tragic loss of a once-in-a-lifetime platform to get an important message across to millions of people worldwide. Louie's message here would have made for a much better Oscar speech.
