@KensStyle I agree. No need to kill pigs either. BUT pigs are NOT an endangered species. But it is not only about the Whales, or Dolphins (which by the way are not good to eat since they have a lot of mercury) it's the culture that does not respect the importance of the OCEAN for our survival.
You should be blaming Ric O berry for not being able to do your Oscar speech. Great movie, and would have been a great speach. Tell your team there is a time and place for outright publicity and demonstrations, and it is not seconds before you have a world ready to listen to grace and humilaty.
I ask that you urge the Japanese government to revoke permits that allow Japan's Fisheries Agency to continue this heinous, dangerous and illegal practice.
I also urge American leadership to ensure that the International Whaling Commission includes the proper management of dolphins and porpoises and a comprehensive plan to stop the slaughter of dolphins in Japan.

Bravo. Bravo. The movie was an incredibly heroic, epic piece of work. AND it was great cinema at the same time. I can't thank you enough for bringing this to light, and I thank the academy for being brave enough to recognize your efforts. Change CAN come if we want it badly enough.
Japan is a island country and 70% of the land are wild woods and mountains where people can not live so from ancient time we have ate fish as a main source of proteins.
My grandmothers generation had not eaten 4 legs creature like cows before western culture have came. Because they thought it was cruel.
What people should eat or not is depends on the environment they surrounded.
Fish is a great source of protein, and 70% of the world depends on fish for their food supply. It's true, the American food system is incredibly disgusting, which is why a growing number of people refuse to eat meat in this country.
However, the reason so many animals are killed in America is because there is a huge demand for their meat. In Japan, there is almost no demand for dolphin meat, because it tastes bad and it is unhealthy. So why must so many of them be killed?
@BiologicalClock so you're basically saying that if a type of meat could be substituted, then there is no need for it to be eaten. well you could say the same for many animals that are eaten around the world, especially with certain types of delicacies, such as foie grah, caviar, etc. Why aren't people bashing those? Oh lemme guess, because its a huge industry and its better known to the western world.
I think this movie is a biased one. You have to know a movie have strong power to brainwash people. If I had made a movie about slaughter of cows with full of splatter scene and shown it to the people who dont eat cows, I would easily can have the big power to stop eating cows. What this movie doing is nothing but violence with little knowledge of other countries and no respect for other cultures. And one thing, most Japanese don't eat dolphins.
"So from ancient time japanese have ate fish as a main source of proteins" and then "most of japanese don't eat dolphins"?!? Then why this massacre? Well, its movie to those who dont eat dolphins like you japanese (as you admitted) so it has to have an impact on these japanese but sadly, it hasnt done any impact on you.
That's true, most Japanese people don't eat dolphins. That's a big reason why the annual killing of thousands of dolphins is so awful, because not only is the meat not eaten by the majority of Japanese people, but it's loaded with mercury.
There is nothing wrong with eating fish (though overfishing is becoming a problem for the environment worldwide). However, dolphins are not fish, they are mammals. I don't know why you think the film promotes violence; it's quite obviously anti-violence.
I think japanese media brainwash their people, and they got more 'strong power' to do so because they tell their people the thing the government wants their people to know and not the truth. Most Japanese can't handle the truth and they try to put the blame to someone or something else. The violence you claimed that is shown on this film are all done by the Japanese. You can't breed dolphins, that's why you can't compare them to domestic cows which are breed in large quantity.
No Japanese are intoxicated with mercury although we eat a lot of sea food. Each Sea food has mercury because bacteria in the sea has mercury. Every human has mercury inside too.
As great as Ric O' Barry is for all his efforts, it was short sighted to pull that sign out as soon as they hit the stage. That's what got Louie's speech cut , and they missed a chance for millions of people to hear this awesome message. What wasn't he thinking?! This was the stage they wanted, what a shame. Shouldve held it up at the end. The oscars are notorious for clamping down on demonstrations like that.
Yeah, the Oscar's are all about the entertainment industry and it is this industry that brings about a state of mind that could care less about reality. This is awesome. I stood up and cheered when The Cove won the Oscar, and I really wish this speech would've been given, but I still think that just winning an Oscar will do tremendous things for ending the atrocities committed in Taiji.
Bravo, bravo. Would have been fantastic to hear this, but I think between the coverage with Hayden and now this the message is getting out there. Of course it can never be enough until it ends, all slaughter of every creature on the planet and destruction of all natural resources needs to end and until then the work can never end. People like you change the world, minds and rewrite history.
I am thrilled and relieved that you received the reconition your plight rightfully deserves. You went into waters no one dared to tread, Dangerously you took on a task to expose the real dealings of what is happening behind closed doors and sealed coves. Mafia- a group of people of similar interests or backgrounds prominent in certain fields or enterprises.
I'd say Japanese fishermen have similar backgrounds and are prominent in fishing. By definition it's a mafia. And in the sense of engaging in criminal-like activities as well. They pointed out in the film that it's not all Japanese fishermen and in fact most of Japan is unaware of the slaughter.
Wonderful documentary. You all risked alot to expose the dangers of Japan selling toxic meat. I teared up a bit when I heard The Cove announced as winner.

God bless this team, and congratulations on a much deserved and earned award. I hope this serves to help your voice be heard worldwide.
A must see for everyone. It's an awful, cruel and inhumane thing to slaughter animals and the people of the world must be made aware of what's happening. In our country and others like Japan.
@evokuro04 I agree, in Asia some people kill and eat dog. As cruel as it sounds, at least they're eating it and not mass slaughtering the dogs. The Dolphins are being herded, tortured, slaughtered and disposed of. Only a small % are actually being eaten. It's so cruel and wrong.
how can you call "dolphin slaughter" a crime, when cows are being slaughtered everyday? Because they are domesticated? Although this movie did a great job spreading the awareness, this movie is bias. I'm not saying selling dolphins is ok. but eating is a part of their culture. just like kangaroos in Australia. dogs in Asia. Rabbits in France.
if you want to stop the dolphin trafficking, stop going to aquariums.
btw, $150K is the highest price paid. they are usually around $20K.
So because cows being slaughtered is wrong, dolphin slaughter isn't? You can't cover every problem with food production worldwide in one movie. And all movies contain bias--it begins even when the filmmaker decides what to point their camera at and what not to. Not to sidetrack too much either, but dolphins are significantly more intelligent then cows (although I personally abstain from eating both, so I'm not saying a lack of intelligence is justification).
I'm saying neither are wrong. it seems you are vegetarian so i respect your opinion, but the people being emotional about this movie are all hypocrites. they love watching captivated dolphins being enslaved, but can't stand them being killed. captivity is a bigger crime in my opinion. so killing the business of zoos and aquariums is what we need to do.
fyi, dolphins and cows are both intelligent. they both have telepathic senses that we don't. you say can't one is smarter than the other.

Is the capture of the animal which you think to be high cutely prohibited?
Do you think that pigs and the birds have a low intelligence, and capture is forgiven by a reason not to be pretty?
In other words this movie was taken only for your sense of values.
evokuro04 2 years ago
I watched the fishing of dolphins with a film for the first time recently, too.
However, there is the capture of the animal which I see cruelly elsewhere.
Please look for it in your country, and does only a dolphin hold any special privilege?
Is it allowed only for domestic animals to massacre it by us?
Does it know you that all people assume a crime as far as they eat food and live?
A human being is only an animal in world nature about the appetite.
Do you realize it?

WooHooo The Cove! Very happy for the world attention you have created!
