I love how everyone rips on Necrophagist's over-sweeping if you will. Like all you people can sweep pick like Suicemez does. You can't. He has a very unique way of sweeping a lot cleaner that most all guitarists. It's difficult. If it wasn't a lot more players would sound like that and they don't. Don't get me wrong, I love them all but I wouldn't say that Mohammed is better at sweeping than Becker and maybe not Vai, although Vai sweeps in a very different way, and does different things with sweeps. I think they all have different styles, none better or worse.

Yeah, and I find Vai and Malmsteem boring too. The problem isn't the over-sweeping (though he DOES over-sweep), it's that all his solos come out the same way, with the same vibe. We're all metal fans here, it isn't like people are bitching just because it's hyper-fast; he just doesn't mix it up at all. Schuldiner always played at light speed and he never seemed to have a problem making expressive solos.

And I never said I dislike Vai or Yngwie. I have the highest respect for those guys. My point is simply that Suicemez has a more sophisticated sweeping technique than most guitarists period. There's a reason why he has an endorsement deal and pretty much his own signature axe with Ibanez. Name another "Death Metal" player who has that. Out of all the legends nobody does. Chuck just got his after he passed away which is BS. Death metal has most of the best players around and gets no respect.

Ok, the reason John Petrucci is a virtuoso and Muhammed is not is because John is incredibly versatile, on a top technical level, has immense musical knowledge, and is constantly trying different things. The same cannot be said for Muhammed. Now, don't your panties in a knot, Muhammed is definitely a phenomenal player, but his clean sweeping does not grant him any form of virtuosity. He (Muhammed) seems to single himself into one genre, and he hasn't branched off at all (from what I've heard). His solos are very repetitive, you CANNOT deny it, can you? I already posted his most used solo formula earlier. Along with his solos, his writing is mostly formulaic, but it's OK because so far he has kept it interesting somewhat. and until he branches off and does something new besides showing great technique, he won't be labeled a virtuoso. Like I said, great player, not a virtuoso.
