  • Why can't we just worry about ourselves for once?

  • I bought 54 pairs of toms

  • those poor people don't have jobs with dress codes - walking barefoot in downtown America is more about getting personal attention. Do ANY of those poor barefoot girls ALSO receive $100 pedicures before showing their feet ? answer = NO.

    *

send your ANNUAL mani & pedi funds to those POOR kids - then maybe we'll listen.

  • Yeah nothing like going barefoot for a good cause. You should bring puke buckets with you at these events!!! Hey here's an idea, why don't you add firewalking or glasswalking to your One day without shoes event? I mean you're already barefoot!!! Put those feet to good use!! One day is nothing, why not start a 'one year without shoes' event to get a feel for what these kids expierence? Heck people in Hawaii go barefoot for days on end by choice.

  • Hot Damn...Walking around barefoot to raise awareness? No wonder people in other countries think we're the biggest dumbasses on earth. "OH Let me NOT wear shoes so I feel better about myself because I can tell other people about this cause and they'll join me. The people this supports will never know about it but who cares because I feel good about myself right?"

  • this is just away for toms to make money

  • OH great How about going naked for those with no clothes ? None of these kids can AFFORD trendy foot massage PEDICURES - and will remain barefoot as more money was waisted on self congratulating advertisements and pedicures INSTEAD of quietly SENDING shoes.

    *

  • @scottidee you need to get money some where. its raising awareness

  • With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One.

Join TOMS April 5, 2011 for One Day Without Shoes

Please tell everybody about the day without shoes and favorite this video and encourage others to watch. Thank You! We need to spread the word & please be barefoot also! Spread the word the your famous vids or copy and paste the top. Send this message to everyone you know! You can aslo make a video about it up to you.

  • This may be an extreme comparison, but I just think that going a day without shoes to honor kids with podoconiosis is like going a day with unprotected sex to honor AIDs patients. It just doesn't make sense to me. We should do something else such as spending the day cleaning out our closets of shoes and clothes we don't use and donate them. That gesture is more likely to help the unfortunate than exposing ourselves to possible pathogens for a day.

  • @noiseratchet16 they just want us to think about what we can do for the children.

  • Comment removed

  • People have told me that my toms aren't the most attractive shoes, but i'm proud to wear mine, and to know that I gave a child in need a pair of shoes.

  • I got my whole school to do this, and we raised money for it.

  • i did it this year...

everybody was asking: "hey, why are you barefoot?"

and then i told them about toms shoes.

i also have a pair of toms myself, and am proud to wear them.

  • This is amazing

  • i did at school and i got write up and kicked out of gym but it was all worth it

  • I can't wait to film this on my camera and upload it to youtube

  • thats on a friday and im not sure if i can...ill probly get in trouble but i will anyway!!!

  • practically everyone at my school went barefoot and they all got either suspended or detentions.

  • Please note this video is for 2009. One Day Without Shoes for 2010 is April 8th.

  • april16 of 2009 was last year this year 2010 it's april8th

  • why would it be weird. those kids go to school without shoes, in much worse conditions. raise awareness!! and its for sure the 8th..video is wrong.

  • i would LOVE to, but i live in alaska, so thats not gonna happen

  • o man.

i SO wanna do dis but like, seriously? go 2 SCHOOL w/o shoes? kinda WEIRD, doncha think??????

  • @TarHeelsRnumber01

Not at all! I wore a bunny suit once(:

  • I LOVE TOMS!!! AND I WILL DEFINITELY PARTICIPATE!!!! but is it the 8th or 16th? website says 8th, video says 16th.

  • in 2009 it was the 16th.

    but this year it's the 8th :)

  • Hey everyone! Search "Go barefoot for TOMS shoes!" on Facebook to join the effort.

  • this video say the 16th but the website says the 8th which is it??

  • True.

We weren't born with shoes on...they're fashionable but not really necessary

  • google - upload themusicage

  • U r ALL "GREAT" ! ! ! :o]

  • wow, april sixteenth was right after my birthday! i can't believe i missed this. :/ dang.

  • darn i wish i had know about this sooner!

  • i so wish i would have known about this!!!!

  • I just got my first pair of TOMS in the mail today. You guys are a great organization!!

  • My family has bought like 8 pairs of TOMS and after you buy them you feel rly good about possibly saving a childs life or letting them get an education! Thank you Blake for starting the one for one idea and inspiring so many 2 help!

  • the point of the barefoot day was so that we could understand what these poor children have to go through EVERY SINGLE DAY! Watch the toms shoes documentary and you will understand all of this, and probably end up with tears in your eyes because it it heart breaking what these kids have to go through.

  • toms shoes are amazing! not only are they super cute but they also are great for children around the world! I love these shoes so much!

  • contradicting messages on going barefoot

  • "tom" is not a person. TOM is the beginning of "tomorrow" as in "shoes for tomorrow," which you would know if you knew anything about TOMS.

not trying to be rude, i'm just letting you know :]

  • thanks for clearing that up, because my comment obviously was completely serious and was meant to be interpreted as such.

  • calm down. you really don't have to be rude about it. i was just saying in case anyone didn't know, and your comment happened to be the one that i saw first.

  • When are they going to approve the video responses?

  • I think we should just let them decide

  • i think instead of just being rude and makin excuses we should try to maybe send shoes over there and help those kids. its sad watching that.

  • its still life threatening for them

  • Give me a good reason going barefooted will help all those people with their problems.

  • The odds are that if on a certain day a lot of people don't wear shoes, at least one person will ask why they aren't wearing shoes, which gives the barefoot person the opportunity to explain why they're barefoot and possibly bring another customer in who will buy a pair of shoes providing another person in another country with a pair of shoes.

  • @flemingericae So basically its advertising for toms and making toms money.

  • @stephinot it's not. This is to make people aware, and to give people a visual of how tough and pointless walking barefoot is when people can do something about it and help!

  • @TheCrazyCandi Walking barefoot is neither tough nor pointless. I have gone several months without wearing shoes and it has been liberating and healthy. When I run barefoot, I experience zero knee pain and zero cuts and I'm running on asphalt. It's annoying that people don't understand that it's actually good for you. How many of the people in this countries have bunions or plantar fasciitis? The problem is sanitation not a lack of shoes.

  • @CrappyMovieStudios but its a lot easier to give them shoes and prevent cuts than it is to sanitize the entire country

  • stupid white people.

  • lol

  • This is interesting. I do something called parkour and many practitioners actually intentionally take of their shoes for better training. I guess barefooting on concrete is different from volcanic soil...

  • i just started youtube and i kinda want more views so whoever reads this, could you help me out??

    :)

im not a spammer i promise.

  • thats spam, thus ur a spammer :) grats.

  • this is for us to realize.... WHAT IF WE were these kids? How does it feel to be like these kids? And through that it will wake us up and will encourage us to be thankful enough for what we have and share those things to those who didn't experienced it.

  • THAT'S REALLY TRUE....

It's really not about 'oh my gosh i can't because of my work or i can't because it doesn't change the fact that these kids are barefoot'

yes some of you guys have a point but the fact is you are saying lame excuses because you are not born like these kids.

just think about those rich ppl (celebs, heiress, millionairs, etc.)

wearing prada and LV and jimmy choo and when there's a lot of people out there w/o shoes

  • Guess what? "developing" Nations are not our problem, you damn Marxist, "everyone is equal", useful idiots.

  • 1 day would not infect you as far as i know, you can always clean, disinfect your feet etc when you get home, unfortunatly, some people cant.

  • I would be thrown out of work if I came in without shoes. I would seriously injure myself if I didn't wear shoes to work. I think this is a great cause to donate to though.

  • well obviously , depends where you work lol, my dad works in construction, so its a BAD idea to go shoeless, but it makes you think about it, which is still good.

  • Wow, weird, the last week I must have walked several kilometers bare foot, just for fun with my gf.. I tear up one pair of socks every time I'm out :P

  • Just wondering, why dont they at least wrap their feet with a cloth and string or something? Would at least provide minimal protection.

  • why are there so many haters? goodness gracious.

  • im wondering the same thing.

its for a good cause and folks is hatin.

  • the two times i stepped on a rusty nail i was wearing shoes with heavy soles. you are supposed to get a tetanus shot anyway more then rusty nails out there.

  • Oh geesh I just made a crack I was not being serious.

I have stepped on many rusty nails and never received a shot.

    LMAO.

I was being sarcastic before making a point about instead of everyone losing their shoes for that cause, just buy shoes for those who need them.

  • understood

  • and the world gets a little smellier

  • actual no cus the sweat evaporates and ther is no concentration of butter acid in the socks

  • why do people put shit on youtbe?

  • first it's not illegal to drive without shoes in most states. i am going barefoot today in support of this.

if you must go where you have to wear shoes slip on flip flops, and think about those who don't have anything at all.

  • It's illegal to drive barefoot in the UK

  • did not know that. in u.s. this law faded from the books years ago. had something to do with old style brake/clutch pedals could fall off. but this was like first cars made.

  • im not really sure why it still exists here.

    *googles*

Okay, it used to be illegal, but now its just prosecuted differently, as far as i have read, driving barefoot is not illegal, but you could be charged by 'affecting your driving, contributing to unsafe driving' etc

  • why are you wasting time finding out if these are real?

    you are missing the point!

  • Very sad.. I know how it feels to walk without shoes.. A very good project.. God bless the poor people in africa..

  • maybe wearing socks for a day would be a better solution to keep feet healthy and get attention

  • the point of this barefoot day is that you experience what it's like, and realise what they go through, not just for one day, but most of thier lives, then hopefully, you'll give some money to toms shoes.

  • Comment removed

  • I appreciate the cause and the message that they're trying to send, but I don't think this is really something that TOMS should be telling people to do. I have friends who liked walking around barefoot on my campus, until they got worms. If you walk around barefoot, particularly in a city, then you can easily get a small cut on your foot- and before you know it regardless of whether or not you notice you can be stepping in squirrel sh*t etc.

I appreciate the ends but not the means.

  • YAY for awareness!!!!!!

  • i did it i went shoeless in the rain!!!

  • the point is to raise awareness. People will ask why you're not wearing shoes and you can tell them about Toms and how a pair of shoes can change a life. It spreads the word about Toms and hopefully more people will buy them.

  • I wore my TOMS to school since ur not allowed in without shoes

and then my team and i all went barefoot for our practice today. we had other sports teams asking questions, which is the point! to raise awareness about it!

  • Today, I wore my toms to school. After I went shoeless the rest of the day. It wasn't bad, i thought, till the shoeless benefit, you had to walk on rock and gravel to get inside the place... man of man... It hurts.. I feel so bad! Thanks so much for what you do.. I went home and washed my feet and thought about all those kids :( GO TOMS!!!

  • it doesn't hurt

  • I went shoeless and told a lot of people about this! If I had the money, I would totally buy a pair for the One for One Movement. It was pretty cool!

  • Same here... So i showed my support by going shoeless today! :)

  • I approve of your comment. If people don't do stuff, then of course nothing will happen, right? Things that start out small can snowball into something huge! =D

  • well said

  • This is a really sad video :(

I wish I could have done this, but alas, it is already night.

  • i don't want podoconiosis so i will keep my shoes on.

  • well well,

Is there now an official foot fetish day? XD

  • Ya man! happy we get a day once and for all!

  • Why can't they make their own shoes? Native Americans created mocassins from cow hide and stuff. Can't they learn how to make things by themselves? Just wondering.

  • Same here, i always wonder how these people just cant adapt and hunt for food n stuff, i mean when humans become desperate, you'll do anything for food.

But i think it also has to do with their government preventing them from doing all that, they control all vegetation and stuff. Idk just a guess >_>

  • A day without my heels? No way...!

  • i did! went my day w/ no shoes!

  • soooo its a gimmick to get people to buy Toms shoes even if "it's for a good cause" the greater cause is to put money in TOMS pocket. Why don't they just take a pair that they make in the factory.

  • The idea to have rich people walk around barefoot for one day in order to better empathize with the plight of the poor is insulting....to the poor.

    It's also borderline nonsensical.

Rich people who wear socks and shoes nearly everyday have almost no callouses on their feet and would actually suffer more within one day than the poor may retain from an entire week. We folks have soft babyies feet^^

  • Unless you are a baby, you dont have baby feet..Problem solved. Now go walk around barefoot.

  • Oh I see. English must not be your first language. Allow me to explain.

When refering to someone as having 'baby feet' (in direct reference to the difference between those who wear socks and shoes and those who don't) it means simply that they lack sufficient callousing and are more apt to be sensitive to what one, who doesn't wear shoes regularly, would otherwise receive in the way of pain;)

  • ~~~ Sarcasm. ~~~

Because sometimes the dumb people just don't need to know that you're actually making fun of them.

Is english your first language? Or shall i define the meaning of sarcasm?

  • I got your sarcasm and turned it around on you. You must be new.

    Welcome to the internets. lol

  • um sorry but this is kinda dumb.... if it's so bad to walk around without shoes why are you asking me to do it? no thanks

  • Thats.. ironically true o.o XD

  • I totally agree!!

  • We weren't allowed to go barefoot in school

  • just wear a t-shirt that explains your cause. it'll be less self-righteous and self-mutilating.

  • why don't we just donate the shoes?

I mean me alone have like 10 shoes and I don't even use them a lot of time.

  • for every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need.

  • So I should walk barefoot for 2 hours in the dirty city I live in simply because some people have too many children? What should I hope to raise the awareness of? Everybody knows that some people have all the money and some people simply dont and yet they keep on having children who have no shoes. Do we really help them when we give them shoes? No, because their parents still dont have a job.

  • Putting yourself in danger of possibly cutting your feet on something and getting an infection can't help these people. Believe me there are worst things out there ( in this country) than infection on the ground

  • this isn't about us, it's to raise awareness for TOMS, to help children in need get shoes.

plus, by just walking a day without shoes you can see the obstacles and the reality of what these kids go through everyday.

  • @chrisschifa @JzKeez22 The point is to draw attention and raise awareness about this subject. I think it's inspirational that TOMS has picked one seemingly small cause they are passionate about and actually did something about it. Let's take a hint from them and try to make a difference in our own way instead of tearing them down!

  • also why do we have to donate our shoes and buy nice shoes for them (not extremely nice) like why cant they make a really really cheap shoe for them cause something is better than nothing...and they make those basketball shoes in china for like 2 cents!

  • So instead of going barefoot ourselves, why not organize a shoe drive, and send all out kids' outgrown shoes to them? Makes more sense than going barefoot, which does nothing to help them.

  • it teaches a lesson to ppl so they donate shoes cause they know somewhat how it feels.. i'd laugh if everyone here went barefoot and got podoconiosis... lol

  • i agree

  • Instead of doing something silly like this, we should be convincing nations to teach people about safe sex and let them have birth control. That is the real problem with these poor nations. They have too many children and they can't properly take care of themselves let alone the babies they make!

  • I totally agree with you. Walking bare foot hasn't helped them today, just caused the people who did it to feel good about themselves. Way to go!!with having some common sense!!!!

  • I'm going to wear two pairs of shoes :3

  • nice video.impressive.

  • todays the day!!!!

yeah boyyyy im excited to go to class w/ no shoes!!!!! =]

    yay TOMS!!!!!

  • Given my general disdain for footwear when I can avoid it, I actually kinda envy being legally required to wear shoes most anywhere.

  • im not wearing shoes...i usually dont once it gets warm out...but this gives me a reason

  • Good idea but im sorry im not gonna do that , but i can help it with money ?? (can i ?)

  • i like the idea. but it's a little like selling cakes to help raise money/awearness for obesity.

  • lol no thanks bra

  • yea, im not doing this. ha.

  • how is it supposed to help. Awareness could be better spread by posters, and newsletters.

  • Maybe, but I think what Tom's is trying to get across- and I could be wrong about this- is that it's far more effective to have a human billboard than it is to spread posters and newsletters that people won't read. It's the norm and expected, but seeing someone without shoes will be definitely an eye raiser , opening the doorway for conversation and personal interaction with a "human billboard". It's a great marketing stratey.

  • are these nations completely deprived of any natural resources to make their own make shift shoes for themselves? I'm not trying to be insensitive, it is a sincere question.

  • Hi. Great question. There ARE very limited resources in these countries, but that's just one part of the problem. The problem is that they aren't industrialized and that it costs so much to import items. Shoes are at the bottom of the list when you don't have your basics like food and shelter. Also, corruption leads to interception of these products imported into the country, so people, like Tom's shoes have to personally deliver the shoes ensure delivery.

  • nah

  • I will go barefoot. I think it is interesting, people asking how they are supposed go to school or go to places where shoes are necessary... the point is you don't, and that is why it is so important. Children aren't allowed to attend school barefoot and by helping to get them shoes, you are educating them as well. Good luck TOMS!

  • I really want to do this, but it is against my school dress code.

I am totally having a discussion with my Dean fo students about this.

  • Cool idea!

How are you supposed to go to school barefoot?

Btw, you're missing Connecticut on your list.

  • I will proudly take part in this! I love toms and what you're doing. You have my full support :)

  • Our school might do that. I just ordered my first pair of Toms last night! Im soo excited!!

  • I'll be barefoot that day, and I blogged about it :) I'm thinking about buying a pair of the shoes too. Why is it so hard to just go barefoot for one day? Think about having to do it everyday, and walking miles. We take small things like shoes for granted. Also, for the people saying they stole this idea from your church... WHO CARES?! If people are trying to help out and spread the word, does it really matter who came up with the idea? That's not very church like my friend.

  • I think this is great...the video is really compelling....shoes are just a simple solution. I never really thought of that! Shoes can get people an education, help them better themselves...nobody really thinks about that! Good job TOMS.

  • So ya! I'll be barefoot to let people know that one little thing I take for granted is a luxury to millions of people-and maybe together our efforts will be huge enough so that everyone at Toms can get more people shoes to those in need all around the world.

And, yes Toms gets their "shoes" (not hoes) from overseas but upon further research-which is provided on the Toms website (i just checked) they are doing everything right. There is always someone to try and knock an amazing thing!

  • Have you ever heard of a movement? Does the word "impact" mean anything to you? By being barefoot for a day, an hour or a minute to raise awareness will make people all over the country, alas, the world look to their feet and the feet of their brothers and sisters as a means to bring about change. You my friend may have money for medical bills and shoes. BUT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE all around the world are barefoot and because of that are denied access to water, food and health care.

  • I think the purpose is really to raise awareness about the 40% of the world's population who go without shoes every single day. They are asking us to experience just one day without shoes so that we may have more compassion for those who have no choice.

  • So does someone want to explain this idea to me? They want us to go barefoot to experience what the kids go through, yes I get that but if so much infection arises from not wearing shoes then why insist that Americans not wear shoes? So our feet can become infected, therefore making us unable to help support the children without shoes because now our budget must be reworked to include medical bills for going shoeless!

Honestly people, put your time and initiative towards something productive.

  • @jef

    one day wont kill you

and no the whole point is to get people to support them so they can send the shoes to the less fortunate..

  • unless you plan on walking in sillica-rich volcanic soils like they have in ethiopia on april 16th, i'm pretty sure you're fine without shoes for one day. i think you are being overly critical of a great idea that has proven to raise awareness... just go to the channel ITZHANSON and see how much of an impact walking a mile barefooted can leave.

  • Uh, you really think you're going to get a disease in one day? Put your time towards something productive.

  • so like...doesnt TOMS get their hoes from third world countries that make them overseas that are made by little children? someone told me this one day

  • I highly....HIGHLY doubt that!!!

whoever told you may be wrong

  • not at all.. TOMS makes shoes and sells them in America. for every pair that is sold a pair is given to a child in a third world country. this barefoot thing is new though.. i'm excited!

  • actually, they ARE made overseas, but they're made in safe, healthy work environments. their production provides well-paying, safe work for many people who would otherwise be unemployed or working dangerous jobs for little money. the conditions are checked regularly, and TOMS takes pride in this. there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with what they are doing.

  • will do.

  • i would want to be nice and do this...but my school would not appreciate my barefeet...nor would i.

i'll just wear my toms :) and tell people about them

    but awesome overall

  • are toms form fitting? cause i want some but idk how they fit or anything ive never had them!

  • when i first bought my toms they were really form fitting, but then they broke in, and were a bit bigger.. i would say if you are between sizes, to go down a size, because theyll mold to your feet.

  • Hmm okay Im going to have to remember that. Thanks for the info! =] but my feet are so weird I have no idea how that would work though! lol. Im def gone remeber what you said though.

  • yeah, that is exactly what happened with me. At first I was kind of iffy on their being comfortable but now they're fucking amazing!

  • great video!

    TOMS rock!

  • woo - that is a powerful vid.
