I think this is a rational, if not too eloquent, statement about the rights and place of "girl gamers". That is to say, there shouldn't be a "place" for them, because people are people. If someone wants to play, they can play. If someone's going to be lame in a game, then they're going to do it, regardless of their gender.
The idea of video games are for boys and not for girls, probably comes from the arcade days. I know the arcades I used to go to as a kid in the 80's were grimy. I would drag my friends and they would chicken out leaving me alone with the bigger kids occupying the arcades. If I was a father of a girl back in those days, I wouldnt let her go by herself just because it was full of teenage boys stealing quarters from younger kids. Anyways, bless all the girls and women who broke through that.

Regarding women gamers...I have never met one in real life, but that is probably because of my age, I am 35. I don't think there are that many of them out there. Younger generation though, there are plenty. There are plenty of 20 year old women who are gamers and that is cool. I have met online few that I know and there wasn't any real distinction in how they played. But that was mainly FPS, so, yeah.

I play mmorpgs for a long time now and i have to say i really am with you on your stated points. For my part (since i met really much people; guys and girl) im treating everyone the same if i dont know them and i change my treatment for simpathy, which can be for both cathegories. The Reason i play MMORPGs to begin with IS to play with others, and to be kind to other people. And of couse, if there are those you are kind to.. there are always the ones to which youre not... both are important com.

To answer your parting question, As an older gamer I find that women make superior gamers, because they read instructions, pay attention and have patience. Women also excel at cooperative play and communications.
In some games, neither gender has an advantage, but in Eve, I believe that the "soft" skills make more of a difference than violent agression instincts which is what most boys and young men bring to their gaming. That, and a preference for making explosion sound effects on Teamspeak.

As a fellow female gamer that plays Eve online, I have experienced the same things you have been describing. I get crap daily for being a girl, whether it's lewd comments in an incursion fleet, or a rival corp wanting to embarrass me cuz i'm the "easy target". @rasmasyean SC does teach you a lot IMO, there is a course called the theory of starcraft that was taught at Berkly. being 'smart' isn't all math equations and amassing knowledge of literature and history. sc can teach you problem solving on the fly, how to make quick and precise decisions, how to sacrifice something to gain an advantage, there is a lot of math involved in the timing of complex builds, how to multitask, strategy and many other skills that IMO do teach you something.

regarding skills hm..... or should i say players with more gaming experience i would rather say, would most likely be guys. Just for the fact they are less hygenic, and may play days on end and keep at it. Girls are more hygenic out of the 2 genders. Wishlist is true. Also, you avoid certain types of games and aspects of games, like PvP in Eve. I avoid PvP in Eve too, and that means I am atypical for a male. But it means you are typical for a female. Just how it is.

I have no problem with girl gamers, but at least in the Eve universe there are very few (I've flown with 2 in the 4 years I've been in Eve) so there's no way not to notice them. For whatever reason very few women are interested in playing games that involve killing in any form. In my experience women gravitate more towards puzzle solving and creation games, like the various farming games out there. For example I play Farm Story on my Droid X, and 90% of the players are women.
one of the reasons why female gamer get more attention, is the homogeneous type of the gamer group. most gamer are male, so females stick out, especially more if they do look decent, which always attracted males no matter where or when.
for example, if you are a male and you work as a midwife (sounds odd, but those exists) you will get more attention that any other female midwife, just because you stick out.
i look forward to when gamer are 50/50 males/females, might be still some time though.

Im a "girl gamer" and im pretty sure that boys dont regard us as attention seeking types. Mint, as you said through your whole video, you don't represent an entire group of people. I think this also applies to the girls that post about games on you tube. Many of the girls ARE just trying to get attention, the problem lies when the ability to differentiate between them and ones that genuinely like playing video games goes away. I can tell you are a genuine example of a girl gamer, and I think that its odd when people think that you shouldn't be that way.

Regarding women gamers...I have never met one in real life, but that is probably because of my age, I am 35. I don't think there are that many of them out there. Younger generation though, there are plenty. There are plenty of 20 year old women who are gamers and that is cool. I have met online few that I know and there wasn't any real distinction in how they played. But that was mainly FPS, so, yeah.
I hope one day to get married to one, ie I have no problem with them being gamers.

Originally games were more geared for boys because like you noticed, they mostly simulated battle. Online games made games social, and since girls like yap on the phone like crazy about all sorts of topics... And of course, as you indicate, everyone is different. But the majority of boys’ brains make them want to kill animals (zombies) to feed the offspring and their mate. And the majority of girls brains make them want to play with and cloth babies (dolls)

I don't hate women gamers. I hate male gamers when a female comes online. Being a male I don't understand why men get a boner whenever they hear a girl's voice online. It makes the game unplayable cause no one is helping the team they are all trying to hit on the girl. I play mmorpgs for a long time now and i have to say i really am with you on your stated points. For my part (since i met really much people; guys and girl) im treating everyone the same if i dont know them and i change my treatment for simpathy, which can be for both cathegories. The Reason i play MMORPGs to begin with IS to play with others, and to be kind to other people. And of couse, if there are those you are kind to.. there are always the ones to which youre not... both are important com.

To answer your parting question, As an older gamer I find that women make superior gamers, because they read instructions, pay attention and have patience. Women also excel at cooperative play and communications.
In some games, neither gender has an advantage, but in Eve, I believe that the "soft" skills make more of a difference than violent agression instincts which is what most boys and young men bring to their gaming. That, and a preference for making explosion sound effects on Teamspeak.

As a fellow female gamer that plays Eve online, I have experienced the same things you have been describing. I get crap daily for being a girl, whether it's lewd comments in an incursion fleet, or a rival corp wanting to embarrass me cuz i'm the "easy target". The sad thing is that it's other female gamers have played into the same stereotype. @rasmasyean SC does teach you a lot IMO, there is a course called the theory of starcraft that was taught at Berkly. being 'smart' isn't all math equations and amassing knowledge of literature and history. sc can teach you problem solving on the fly, how to make quick and precise decisions, how to sacrifice something to gain an advantage, there is a lot of math involved in the timing of complex builds, how to multitask, strategy and many other skills that IMO do teach you something.

@ChicksCanGame It's just like judging a woman in the army...especially in combat roles. It's true that strength and endurance count in the heat of RL battle, but also hand-eye-coordination. And whether you like it or not, many women aren't as fast as men when it comes to moving objects and shooting them because of genes. Doesn't apply to every woman, but just saying that's why some men are more likely to want another man on their team in fast action competition.

regarding skills hm..... or should i say players with more gaming experience i would rather say, would most likely be guys. Just for the fact they are less hygenic, and may play days on end and keep at it. Girls are more hygenic out of the 2 genders. Maybe that is just stereotyping at work meh :X but thats my opinion lulz. When it comes to pure natural skill, i don't think there is much difference between the genders. But when it comes to time spent gaming, guys will surely win.

But yes i agree with you. Online i personally try not to differentiate between the genders. After all, coming onto girls should be done offlines. Doing it online makes you come off desperate and pathethic. Not to mention girls are already freaked out with the attention they get online as it is .... besides you never know if someone is a girl or not. This one game i played, we had a moderator who pretended to be a girl to get perks of a moderator lulz ...

mintchip, it would also be educational to understand how girls such as yourself took to liking playing games. As a guy, gaming is just one of those things we end up doing along the way. Unless you were a hardcore jock that is more outgoing. Maybe there are more girl gamers these days, but i'd reckon males are still the majority. Maybe a poll is needed for an update regarding the demographics :} ?

Wishlist is true. Also, you avoid certain types of games and aspects of games, like PvP in Eve. I avoid PvP in Eve too, and that means I am atypical for a male. But it means you are typical for a female. Just how it is.

I have no problem with girl gamers, but at least in the Eve universe there are very few (I've flown with 2 in the 4 years I've been in Eve) so there's no way not to notice them. For whatever reason very few women are interested in playing games that involve killing in any form. In my experience women gravitate more towards puzzle solving and creation games, like the various farming games out there. For example I play Farm Story on my Droid X, and 90% of the players are women.

one of the reasons why female gamer get more attention, is the homogeneous type of the gamer group. most gamer are male, so females stick out, especially more if they do look decent, which always attracted males no matter where or when.
for example, if you are a male and you work as a midwife (sounds odd, but those exists) you will get more attention that any other female midwife, just because you stick out.
i look forward to when gamer are 50/50 males/females, might be still some time though.
