well i had the same problem, and i put XP pro back in,but it was to dam slow,
so i have put Ubuntu 10.04 BACK IN, BUT BEFORE doing that i put the Logitech mic in the USB slot, and installed Ubuntu it just picket it up and is working beautifully not a problem at all.
So go try that it should work!!
P/S this was on a HP 4310S Notebook.,the mic was a Logitech desk mic!!
@amaranthflavius it works for realtek audio chipsets, sorry forgot to mention but!!! try these steps and maybe u will have your microphone working:
****** try alsamixer in terminal, just type alsamixer and hit enter, hit Tab to switch to capturing devices and make sure every thing is unmuted.
******if that didnt work also - try to install "pavucontrol" application, search in the software center. install and then find it in the sound and video menu, run and see if everyting is unmuted.
dont have to reboot, just restart alsa drivers..duuh
