Since darkness of the unknown is my favourite song of the entire Kingdom Hearts Saga, i'm very critical about remixes, parodies and remade versions, since most of them sound crappy.

Some are just to much, some are soft, some don't even have the feelings in it.

Are you asking if the original song runs in the background? If yes, it doesn't ^^ I just played the song from my memories - that's why it is not exactly a piano cover but more an improvisation on the original melody which I developed into a bit of another direction.

so there's part of the original melody in it and other parts in which I play what I felt like would match with it ^^

wow awesome! just curious... how long have you been playing piano now kiwi? you say you're not fluent in reading or writing notes and you play by ear? thats talent lol i'd like to play as well like you, have any tips im having trouble giving both my hands a "mind of their own" lol. im pretty noob at piano but yeh could u suggest any starting points? like how you began? and how you play with both hands. that would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Kelun (may I call you that? ^^)

That's true, I'm lousy at reading notes and that alone makes writing notes impossible for me ;D

I had very rough lessons in keyboard when I was around 7/8 years old... For 1 1/2 years I would play easy stuff with rhythms - so I was only using my right hand for the "more complicated" notes and pressed one or maybe two keys with my left hand (for the chord - not really challenging but enough for a kid and enough for a keyboard to produce music) .....

Then I stopped out of the blue because I didn't like it anymore...

When I was 15 years old I just felt like it again and got back my keyboard and started to play along songs with my right hand.

Yepp, my left hand is way too weak and I'm not using it a lot - even now.

that was my starting point: play main melodies with the right hand and make sure they are burned into your mind and then slowly add the left hand (try to figure out the chords one by one)

if you're having difficulties in bringing your two hands together, giving each a "mind of its own" you might also need to seperate the practising with them.

e.g.

at first figure out the chords (left hand) and play them until you can do it in your sleep *haha*

then leave the left hand aside and only practise the melodies with your right hand.

and later you slowly put them together.

it's annoying, I used to hate my hands a lot in the beginning ;P

but don't give up! ^^ it's worth it

I believe it would make me better if I took lessons and knew how to position my hands/fingers in the right places but I'm afraid I would only lose interest in the whole thing :(( most certainly that's what happened whenever I started to become seriously with something.
