I have heard some prices from 'professional' installers. How about $270 to add 2lb r22, $750 for blower motor, $3000 for a 3 ton 13 seer condenser, $1,150 for evaporator changeout, the best of all: drum roll please, $347 for a condensing fan CAPACITOR. Folks, I will tell you that many, not all, big name companies steal money from good people. Some customers deserve it but it doesn't make it right.
The way that person was installing the air conditioner was so extremely dangerous to the point of being suisidal, you've got a real death wish if you're installing a system in that way. I see the message behind this video?
In the USA we still don't use these type of split units much. They cost a fortune compared to the window units - those are the box ones that install in an open window. You can get a really good one for around $200 or less in the USA.
@clark144 is not hardcore is dumb plus with the laws and tickets that are out there that osha gives it can mean bankruptcy for many companies, failure to train employees, no hard hat, no harnest, no gloves, no safety, plan it goes on and on and on. not to mention who the fuck it going to service that with out charging up the ass. That is a high efficientcy ductless unit if they can afford that they can afford a proper installation what do u think man
@clark144 You'll look pretty hardcore on a slab of cold granite with a tag on your left big toe and your brains splattered on the sidewalk down below. In real life, this is called "Stupid".
@deltaf22 If you knew anthing about george carlin, you would understand that was a editing quote by him, one year ago I posted this and people are still replying to it
Now I seriouly have to ask what kind of dumbass risks in life in an apartment on that floor to intall an air conditioner the guys obivously too lazy to call someone to have it intalled SAFELY
NOW thats a pro at work LOL i bet it was a cheap install if it was more expensive guys would have a ladder or those sizzor type thing vehicle to lift them up there
Actually yes, many "anybodys" can. An installation like this is experienced-handyman level, and many company installers are not even that good. (Installers are not refrigeration techs, they're installers.)
If you can do the electrics OK, about the only problem area is not getting the 4 tubing connections aligned straight. If you cross-thread the tubing connectors, then you have a mess to deal with.
I wonder why they didn't put the unit beneath the window, instead of beside it.
@iPidd as an airconditioning engineer, would you know how to bring a system into a vacuum? what tools to use, what gauge to use, what pressure it should be? how to work out what the critical charge is? how to charge it? what to charge it with? working out pipe drop? compressor capacity? measure the superheat? check the running current? im sure youll have a quick look on google but im telling you its NOT just a job anyone should do. as a bad install can effect unit performance and function. 64
ductless mini split systems are made to be installed like that. still shot that final image follow the brickwork the outdoor coil is actually mounted straight. also the final image the linset is perfectly straight. i have seen hundreds of these systems mounted just like that. great installation...hanging out the window to install it isnt uncommon.
its not a window unit at all. its a mini split system. exactly the same as a big system just the tonnage is a lot smaller. these systems are made to be mounted to the side of buildings exactly like that

Everyone can IF they have the knowledge and the right tools.
Otherwise the machine will break down in a year or two and work poorly in the mean time.
McDiezel 2 years ago
True. Good thing the DIY pre-vacced machine are slowly taking over residential installs and slowly coming into more commercial ones.
The standard of them has also improved in recent times and some nice inverter models are out.
iPidd 2 years ago
Still need to vacc the connections, even if it not a big task or especially hard people do fail at that too.
Yes they have improved a great deal and they are more reliable and low energy consuming.
I wil be buying one and installing it at the end of the month.
See if I fail.:-)
