A Male Has A Pink Beak When Young Then It Changes Into A Dark Blue Beak ... Where As A Female Has A Light Blue Beak When Young And Then It Changes Into A Brown/Pink Colour :)

I'n not a newbie when it comes to parrots, but when I got my parakeet 3 years ago, her cere look blueish, so I thought she was a boy so I named her Rex. Then about 6 months later her cere turned brown! I renamed her Roxie! It is hard to tell sometimes when they are really young.

Female, no doubt. Blue pied & her cere/nose is white/brown. A male's would be bright blue. This is the GENERAL rule:

Males- Blue cere (pink as baby).

Females- Brown cere (white/bluey purple as baby).

However, there ARE definitely exceptions which depends on colour - Harlequin males usually keep their pink cere into adulthood.

Talking ability also helps as they mature; males will chatter whether taught & females only pick a few human words.

Males have BLUE ceres, no exceptions. A female can slightly vary between brownish/ beige but a male is always Blue, period. The ONLY time it may be other than blue is when it is young....but by the time it is about 7months, it will have it's permenant cere color....enjoy!

Hiya! Same thing happened to me, when I got my budgie 2 years ago, the guy said it was male. A few months later, my birds nose thing went some wierd brownish and white color. I researched and found out that females have the brownish noses =/ Now I know why my budgie is always biting me.. Hm, I think Dean is actually a girl x3
