  • You are such a good face painter!

  • i love your makeup

  • Could you do a spongebob design?

  • Hi Lisa,

Would this be considered a full-face design, even though it's technically the top half of the face?

  • @jilly4785 I would consider this to be a mask. To be grouped into the "full-face" category, the design should go down to at least the upper lip (like the blue monster tutorial I did).

  • Thanks for this mermaid design. I was painting at a festival recently and had a young lady hop in my chair and request a mermaid. I recalled this video and painted something similar, but in my own style... and she just LOVED it. Couldn't stop looking in the mirror. I think the next young lady in line wanted exactly the same, lol! Also, thank you for inspiring me to start facepainting. I think yours was one of the very first tutorials I watched. Now I am working regularly and loving what I do :)

  • hello, use paint cles

  • Can I ask where you bought your bronze dfx? I'm looking right now and can't find it anywhere? Is it just called bronze or would it be considered a metallic? thanks! :)

  • @MissRuthless It's considered a metallic. I bought it from the DFX website, but that's closed now, and I'm not sure what other retailers sell it. Sorry about that!

  • Do you know of another brand that sells a color similar or almost the same shade as the DFX "Bronze" you used?

  • @MissRuthless You might want to see if TAG sells something similar. Also, you can get the same effect by mixing a darker green with gold :)

  • So what if u can't get those brands? Can u use stuff from Walmart?

  • Congrats! Beautiful design! To answer your question: I prefer to use Wolfe white. TAG has a great consistency to it- but it's not as opaque as Wolfe or DFX. I like DFX almost as well as Wolfe due to it's opacity- but I find that the paint gets a little glunky easier than Wolfe. Wolfe has the best of both worlds- great consistency AND opacity! :)

  • Beatiful as always. thanks for posting...

  • congrats on your baby boy!! Can you make a tutorial using stencils? I'm about to order the Badass ones from Silly farm would you recommend something like that? Thx for all your fantastic tutorials you've changed the way I'm working

  • @PalAndriani I actually don't have any stencils. If I ever get some I would be happy to do a tutorial using them :)

  • Great as usual!

  • Love the new design Lisa and congrats on the new baby. Your videos have been so helpful for a hobby-ist like me.

On the DFX issue, Wowfactorstuff (dot com) is selling some white and black in 32 gram sizes with free shipping thru 8/31/11. Gina says she obtained it from the Netherlands. I love their paints too and couldn't help myself and bought some despite the drama.

Keep the videos coming and try to get some sleep! Thanks for all that you do!

  • Hi Lisa,

just wondering if you can tell me if there is a supplier in the US that stocks all 3 brands - DFX, Wolfe and TAG? I can't get a couple of DFX and Wolfe colours here in Aus.

    Thanks, Kat

  • @thekitkat38 Unfortunately, no. As far as I know, Wolfe refuses to sell paint to stores that are selling DFX or TAG, so you have to get Wolfe from a separate source :(

  • @lisajoyyoung

Thanks for responding Lisa. I just wanted to make my life easy...just being lazy...lol.

  • I love this. I'm in Australia and I have watched every one of your videos. You're a great instructor.

  • LOVE THIS DESIGN!!!! Congrats Lisa! My 3rd little girl is now 11 weeks. I have not painted since I had her, I dont know how you find the time!!! I think I am ready to dive back in now though. Question... do you have something you look at for reference? How do you remember all these designs?

  • Lisa congratulations for your new baby, you have a great desings, god bless, i love your work thanks

  • I love the way you speak. Especially they way you say the word "AND" Ay-ind. Love it. You speak the same way as make-up artist, Petrelude. Where are you from?

    I'm English, by the way.

  • @EVITANDY Thanks! I'm from California :) I LOVE Petrelude, by the way. He's AWESOME!

  • Thanks Lisa! Great design!

  • hey Lisa, i remember you saying that you got your glitter from face paint forum shop. i bought mine there, because of you, and i love it. hope that jogs your mem.

  • @havasmama05 Awesome! Thanks :)

  • Dear Lisa,

    Congratulations on the baby-boy!

You're right, they keep on getting easier. Our three children are 11, 10 and almost 9 of age. I can yell at them: go in the shower now, and be finished in 10 minutes

;-) Nevertheless I can really yearn for a small baby, so there's hapiness in every age they get.

I watch you paint that beautiful mermaid, but I can't help thinking: how does she get the yellow and green parts off, without looking like a banana afterwards?!?

  • @dirigentje Since I have makeup and moisturizer on under the paint it actually comes off quite easily. Any left over residue comes off quickly with makeup remover or baby oil :)

  • beautiful colors and blending!! nice thin lines.

  • what is the diamond fx drama

  • Another fantastic design, Lisa! I can picture a party of little girls painted in various color schemes of this design! A mermaid party:) Hope things run a little smoother with your little one soon! My two children are 9 and almost 8, I keep thinking I want another one but...it would be like starting all over again! Not sure how I'd fare! My kids do so much by themselves:) I'm spoiled by their independence!.

  • tag has a really good glitter! you can buy it from their website in small amount or bulk... from what i can see it looks the same as what you use... I have it and it is really fine "MILLED" like you described! it's called the holographic white glitter... i got it when i purchased their face paint starter kit ... YOU ARE AWESOME BY THE WAY!

  • Another great video, thankyou!

And well done you for doing this with a 5 week old baby....you should be taking it easy, but loving the video anyway :)

  • I use Paradise white for full face coverage (it is lighter coverage, but not bad) and Wolfe white for lining and teardrops. Wolfe has the best coverage and doesn't flake.

  • @DaCheller Thank you!!!

  • No more DFX for me either:oP

So far TAG is nice. I just got the white so I haven't had time to play with it, yet. My DFX white is almost up. Hoping the TAG is good, but if not, I'll just go back to Wolfe:o)

    Great video! *hugs*

  • @Zoeebella You'll have to let me know what you think of the white when you start to use it. I've heard from a few people that they don't like it as much as DFX and Wolfe, so I think I'll be using Wolfe white too :)

  • Oh great, now I need another color....LOL! ; )

    (Bronze)

  • @TheLindaAdams Lol! You honestly probably don't need to get the bronze color. It's pretty, but the mermaid design is the only thing I use it on :)

  • Hello Lisa, I'm just starting and had a question about 2 colors. I have a DFX green and blue, like the colors but they seem to stain the skin and wont wipe off easy. Is there anything i can use before applying so that it comes off easy? Thank you and love the video!

  • you poor thing Lisa - my 'little one' is now 5.5yo and I STILL remember how the first 6-8 weeks was H E L L !!!! You are doing remarkably well at 5 weeks AND 2 other kids!

You're an inspiration in soooo many ways.

I wish I could help you . . but instead I send you a cyberhug from OZ xo

  • @Montse3070 Thanks for the hug :) I keep telling myself that this part will be over soon :) I can't wait for the day that I get a full nights rest again!

  • Lisa,

I had a bad experience with TAG white. For some reason it seemed to flake off on my linework and blossoms but I LOVE, LOVE their other colors. I'm a little frustrated because I want a white that doesn't feel sticky for skulls and tigers and I've been using my DFX which I like for linework. I know you've used Starblends but is there a white (like Paradise maybe?) that is "light" on the skin?

  • @paintedparty Bummer! Oh well, I guess I'll be using Wolfe white. Finding a good white for bases is hard, but paradise may be the way to go. I've never used it, so I can't tell you for sure. Lately, I've been using DFX metallic white for my bases. It's soft and easy to blend. If you don't mind the fact that it's shimmery, it's a great option.

  • @lisajoyyoung I might do that. I have some to mix with other colors to pearlize them...I think I got that idea from you! LOL!

Wolfe White seems to be all out...phasing out? Hope not.

    Thanks for the ideas.

    D.

  • Love the video! Congratulations on your third, I bet their beautiful. Just like their mommy! I would add lips to complete you look. It beautiful thanks for sharing

  • @lillysfaces You're right, lips definitely would have added to this design :)

  • Hi Lisa, I wanted to know if you ever used rainbow cakes from sillyfarm. If you have can you please tell me what you think of them

  • @emineminime Unfortunately I haven't, but a friend of mine has. She said the paint quality seemed fine, but the containers are made in a way that it's hard to load the paint onto a sponge. They do have a lot of great color combos though :)

  • Very cute looks like the one from Sophies Tips on youtube. But Very cute!!!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • @brevin52 I just looked up the video you're talking about, and you're right, it does look a lot like hers! I got my inspiration from a face painting I found online, so maybe she saw the same picture :)

  • Congrats on the new baby. Love your videos. Unfortunately not skilled enough to do this stuff professionally, although trying to rediscover my drawing skills, with the help of my 3 and 4yo daughters, and snazaroo paints we bought recently for 4yo's birthday party this coming 3rd Sept whn she becomes 5..... fingers crossed... how do you stop a 3yo wriggling, and a 4yo wanting to look in the mirror every few seconds, lol?

  • @AndyDOHD1 Keeping small children from wiggling is one of the hardest parts of the job! Put your left hand on their head and that should help to keep you steady and keep them still. Also, keep the mirror out of their reach, because if it's close to them they WILL try to reach for it while you're painting them.

  • Where can i get diamond fx in a shop in aus?

  • @CrystalColours00 hmm... I'm not sure. Have you tried TAG? It's also a good paint and readily available in aus.

  • awesome!

  • Excellent design - as always! Thanks Lisa

  • Hi Lisa, congrats for your third one ! I love your videos and glad to see you back ! had a question for you about starting a make up business. I wondered how much you charged to face paint kids at a party ? I work for the government (for my city) and when I facepaint it's free since the gov. pays me instead of the parents. Therefore even if I've been doing this for 2 years I don't know how much to charge ? Any information would be useful, thank you and please keep on doing videos :)

  • @rockxval You should watch my video, "Q & A Deciding Your Rates." It will answer all of your questions :)

  • tag also seems easier to order and I like their site better. Thanks so much for the info. I had my first big gig at our Olympic oval festival last weekend and I just wanted to thank you so much for all your help with design and technique! mostly your kitty/ bunny was really popular! I just wanted to let you know your videos really do make a difference and have impacted my life in such a positive way! Thank you so so much you are amazing!

  • @jadestar4 Thank you so much!!!!! I'm glad the videos have been helpful! xoxoxox

  • Hi Lisa!

thanks for this video, I love it!!!

first com, so proud ! lol

I'm french and I don't understood all I just read about DFX... but I'm disappointed because I just bought a lot of teir stuff!!! If I correctly understood, their products are fakes? but some say the ones with just "lot" are fakes and someone else said that taht ones are the real ones??? I will contact the company I ordered to know (sorry to disturb you with my questions!!! lol)

congratulations again for your baby boy !

    sev

  • @sev42017 Don't be disappointed that you bought the paint! DFX is GREAT paint :) Yes, DFX is claiming that the U.S.A. supply with lot #101 on the back isn't really DFX. But, since you live in France, none of that effects you because the European distributors never got or sold any of lot #101. Plus, I have some of lot #101 and it is EXACTLY the same as all my other DFX paint.

  • @lisajoyyoung you are right, the paint is great! but I read more and I just dont understand one thing: (actually I buy my cakes in England because it doesn't exist in france) some of my cakes have lot008???it means in england they also have fakes...4 of mine are fakes but like you (I guess) I am a little disappointed because when you buy that especially for kids most of time, you have to trust the company!!! and it's not correct from them!!

Lisa thanks a lot for the answer!!!

  • @sev42017 Are you sure lot #008 is fake? Last I heard lot #008 is okay. This is a facebook post from DFX Netherlands, "We are now able to release the information that all faked products were originally supplied by the USA distributor.

No other countries have been affected."

  • @lisajoyyoung I went to the facebook page, thanks for the information, it helped me :)

I feel better...because I'm a beginner in face painting and I ordered a lot of cakes to begin and that's why I was so worry about this drama...

I would like to thank you for your time and also all your videos, I learned a lot ! I don't feel confident yet but one day I will so I practice...It is so new for me.. I am a "traditionnal" make up artist

thanks for the add in facebook, a few days ago

    have a nice day

  • @sev42017

sorry I don't know why it didn't worked the first time...oups sorry ...don't know how to delete...;)

  • @lisajoyyoung I tried to find the thread at the facepaint forum but I couldn't find it.

So if my paints say lot #101 they are fakes? Is Diamond fx doing anything about this like giving replacements?

Also, what dos it mean if they are fakes? are they made with different ingredients? Some of mine say "Lot" and no # after just blank.
