This is also in the "Diva song" in the Fifth Element. I don't know if it's different or not but it's definitely in that movie!! Brilliant. Ugh love heeer!!!
I don't think any video of her Lucia captures the many changes of mood in the Mad Scene as well as this one, particularly in the long opening section before "Ardon gl'incensi". You see in her face that constant change between despair and crazed happiness. And then there's the singing!
Dame Joan Sutherland has always been thrilling her audience with her sweet flageolet range of a Coloratura soprano and the role of Lucia in all her roles.
This video is a good example on how she reverberated her voice to her audience and fans especially in the scene 4:12 and 13:19 part as you can hear her Coloratura voice ornamentations. She's a good example to all Opera Singers.
She's greatly missed and always remembered not only in her artistry but also a kind hearted woman. RIP
When Donizetti wrote this role, I believe he was thinking exactly in Dame Joan Sutherland. In a nutshell, she's perfect. I can't imagine Lucia di Lammermoor without the Australian diva. Born for this role. What a voice! That interpretation! Perfect mastery of techniques and she doesn't miss a note! A secular voice! Viva La Stupenda! And he who shared this video to be blessed.
@joserico282 Yes! The only less than perfect performances I can think of were much, much later in her career - and even then her least was more than others most :)
@Espritsdelair Oh I suppose you're right. Still, it seems that for a good twenty years, she was in good voice. I'm in good voice like five days out of the year.
Thank you. Although I had listened this version thousands of times, I had never seen the video. Thank you

Joan Sutherland had a "once in a century" voice. Truly remarkable.

orribile, è più una tarantella che una scena di pazzia

@tipofmytongue1024 The "diva song" is the first aria of the mad scene (il dolce suono).

@emma41093 Agreed. I think this is JS's most satisfying video Mad Scene, taking performance & technical quality into account.
