Struggles with any issue become charged when they last long enough. A divide exists between WLC and WLS communities because you have to commit yourself to whatever path you chose as being Right for You. You have to say, "I am doing this right this time," and put your faith in it. It's like a little ridiculous holy war between opposing factions, and it probably won't ever go away because new people will be drafted into either group even as older members abandon their own stereotypes and stigmas
Thanks for your video. I've tried many traditional programs and recently got WLS. I can honestly say that the surgery is much harder than any other program. You can never quit it like you can other programs.
Great video! Thanks for being so balanced with this. I know this stirred up a lot of emotions on both sides of the fence, but hopefully it also got people thinking.
It's not an easy way out, it's an easIER way to lose weight. Yeah the process is long and there are lots of stuff you have to do prior to the surgery. But obviously it HAS to be easier to lose weight with the surgery...
My aunt and a friend of mine had this surgery as well. And the changes that they have to go through and work they have to do is significant. One of the hardest things for them to deal with was the surprising lack of support they got from people...losing weight is such a hard thing to do and as far as i am concerned the most important thing is to lose it and get healthy..how you get there is a personal choice to be respected...thanks for this video it was appreciated.
Great video! You were actually informed before you opened your mouth..wow. I'm excited! I always try to see SOMETHING positive in everyone, but sometimes it takes a harrrrrrd look to find it! You seem like an intelligent person with compassion and empathy. Very nice Jason. Take care and best of luck to you in every aspect of your life....
Thank you for this vid! Losing weight, both with weight loss surgery or the conventional way both necessitate a total life style change to achieve lost lasting results. Props to you my friend for informing those interested.
Firstly, i wanna say any drama, (esp. about ppl who are overweight and are trying to lose it and get healthy, who should all be supportive of eachother NO MATTER WHAT) is bad for the soul. Esp. in support group setting like WLL and WLS, etc. Secondly...thank you for doing your research!! A lot of ppl who are trying to lose weight by dieting may not know much of what you spk about, so i'm glad you put the word out. It's NOT easy, and neither is dieting without this tool. So thanks again :)
YAY! awesome video.. great job on the research. I knew all that, because I have friends who have had it and I have watched a lot of the WLS vids..but a lot of people, apparently, had no clue. It's definitely not the easy way by any means.. I'm glad people are feeling better about the topic now :O)
I mean he has lost 117lbs (this was his total lost a year after his surgery so not sure what the current number is). He originally weighed 427lbs on the day of his surgery. He meets with his nutritionist again on the 20th so will see where he is at then.
Very well done Jason. Very proud of you for re-examining your stance on this subject and really doing the research. I know it is hard to admit that you are wrong. Yay! You did an AWESOME job... KUDOS! <3 <3 <3 you Jason!
FANTASTTIC JASON! Thank you for this.. You are one very smart man, and thanks for doing your homework, Like I said in my reply video we are all here to better our lives however we choose to do it..Kristy
Thank you so very much for taking the time to research. You articulated yourself very well and respectful to all. Best of luck to you always on your journey ~ Caprice
Thank you for taking the time to research WLS. I admit I do get defensive when I tell someone I had the surgery because I work out 6 days a week and eat very strictly and yet still only lose about a pound a week. I just want everyone to know that I am actually DOING WORK to lose and that the surgery did not do it all for me. For some reason it really bothers me when people think I am not doing it. I really would not lose anything without MY WORK. Surgery or not.
Great video, Jason! You're right on about all those little buttons we all have, and we can really learn a lot about ourselves and our opinions by taking a closer look at what sets them off and how we react! Despite everything, I DID learn quite a bit this week.
good to hear people are able to change their opinions on things.. most people, especially on youtube, are sooo stubborn! This discussion was awesome and very informative! Loved it
Jason, this video is great and thank you for taking the time to research before commenting. IMO WLS reteaches us how to eat properly... portions, food choices, nutrients etc I am very saddened by the 2 ladies that posted videos, they spoke with very harsh words with out knowing anything about the topic. I am so glad this week is over.
You did a great job. It is hard - I had surgery 7 weeks ago and i still have to work hard, to not eat bad foods and not overeat. I have lost 47 pounds so far. I feel better already. It gives you a "tool' and it helps give you hope to try harder. Thanks it was great you looked into it. Good luck with all of your weight loss. I am very impressed with all of your guys weight loss. We do need support. I think no one could ever say natural weight loss could ever be wrong, that is ridiculous.
I just hope you trust that the comments you pointed out to me were NOT meant the way you thought. Jason and I spoke (in private) and we have moved on. Thank you for pointing out the misunderstanding.
Thank you for pouring so much thought and time into this video. Most of the restrictions you mentioned about weight loss surgeries (surgeons) are standard but do vary slightly, ie how long to be on liquid etc. I can't express how much I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. We are all here for the same goal. Best of luck on your weight loss journey! ~Rebecca
I'm really happy to see that you've done previous research and have been able to either expand your understanding or have some back-up for your opinions.
This was very well-spoken and intellectual, I commend you.
Very good job Jason! Glad you did some research on this. After watching some videos on people that have done WLS a few brought me to tears, just seeing what they go through. We all take different paths on losing weight and none of it is easy. It's a daily struggle and hopefully we can all learn more from one another so we can suceed.
I really appreciate your video. Loved the fact that you took the time to research such an important topic and share that info with ur community. The article was pretty accurate; sometimes there is also a preop liquid diet as well (mine was 1 wk). Overall it has been a good wk. I think we all learned from each other. Good points about examining where our anger is coming from and possibly misunderstanding statements made by others. tc
Jason...I commend you on your in depth research. Thank You so much for your support and sharing what I believe as well. We are ALL part of a community, surgery or no, we are all trying to lose weight. Thank You.
Hopefully we have all been able to learn some lessons this week. Thanks for bringing this to closure in a way that I hope many will be able to embrace.
some can't "handle" cold liquids, I and my wife, it does not bother us... oddly... REGULAR water... I can't do... and there are alot of us that have that same issue. Crystal Light saves us.
I suppose my question is why, after knowing the wls diet and having this superstrict meal plan, can we not follow that diet without getting the surgery?
cause, your stomache is smaller so you get full fast, and do not feel as hungry...but, your mind still is in the same mindset so it is still a battle. Yr bdy can reject foods you shouldn't eat and it is nauseating and painful if you go off, so in essence it is hard but it allows your body to force you to make good choices, then it can become a habit. I am already after 7 wks looking at 2 oz of food as just enough, any more than that and it looks like a ton of food. Maintaining is key later.
Jason I commend you for doing homework on the surgery. It's NOT an easy way out. Thank you for this. You are Superman I will Agree with AJ. LOL Maybe next week you should all talk about Cute Puppies and Kittens? LOL

WOW! I am so glad that you took the time to do your research Jason.
I was really offended with the way people were reacting and their opinions
on weight loss surgery. I have not had this surgery myself but my father did
have the Lap Band surgery on August 26th, 2007. I went through that with him
first hand and what he had to go through to even be approved for the surgery.
Now a year and a half later and lots of hard work (harder then I work to lose
30lbs) he now weighs 117lbs.
morgan0661 3 years ago
I couldnt imagine being in my fathers shoes in trying to lose weight.
Anyways thank you for doing the research and educating all of those that
think its the "easy way" as if you ask me its harder then any way I have
tried. Thanks for opening up the minds of people in this community and like
you said hopefully building friendships across the board. You never cease to
suprise me.
