Hi, Im just away to start a job as a piping draughtsman. Can you give me any advice on useful resources etc? Ive been a draughtsman for a year, but never with piping. Any help is much appreciated!!
hey my man I work as a commercial autocad drafter and i get paid 13/hr i was wondering how much do you make and am I underpaid? would I make more money if I studied 4 more years and became a draftsman?
nice drawing man, i am in my third year of college and i a want to work in the petro chemical drafting bussines, i also plan on graduating with an electrical, machine and topographic degree. I might also choose a class that theaches the Pro-E program. Also i agree with tturit PDMS is the best program to design piping drawings in.
The company I work for drew all the fittings/forgings anything pipe for autocad, so I just pop those right in! They're fairly simple to draw, as long as you know what you're drawing! ;)
I find it pretty useful actually! I love drawing pipe on AutoCad! It works just fine where I work... we all use it! I'm sure those other programs are great too though! :)
Yes, I'm pretty sure it can be done with ANY version of autocad. We use '04, '07, and some '08 where I work. It's basically just drawing lines to represent a spool of pipe for a customer! Simple stuff!
You should definitely go for drafting! It's awesome! :-D I've never gone to school for it and I learned pretty quickly! Been doing it a little over a year now where I work!
thanks! i was thinking about doing specifically architectural drafting in school but i think im going to take up a general drafting degree so i can do all sorts of drafting. I dont want to limit myself on one specifically. I love it though. and thanks for answering!

you should try the Cadpipe add od to AutoCAD, for both the modeling of 3D piping systems as well as drafting of pipe spools.

It looks like you enjoy your job, that's really awesome. Do you work in a shop that fabricates piping for industrial applications?
