  • Where can I get more information about this company and service? Sounds very interesting.

  • Thank you come again!

  • He is a horrible orator . . . I mean he is actually reading out everything written down on the slides . . this really proves that even totally useless guyz can be fairly successful business people . . .

  • @fd99078

what makes u say he is a TOTALLY USELESS guy? may be he is a horrible orator..and readin out slides... did u see the video what he did for mumbai attack? have u reasearched on this guy before saying he is TOTALLY useless? do u know from where has he studied or from where is graduated(not saying everyone from harvard is great or every one who is highly educated is great) action sounds louder than words..his richness of action will compensate for his poor oratory skill..

  • A challenge for Google or any other service provider. A timeline and map of the corruption and cartel cases that has surfaced around the globe. Proven and sentenced, suspected, going to trial etc. Perhaps a statistical tool to see the developement for sectors over time. Say infrastructure in the seventiees till today.

  • I recently bribed a cop to get my passport processed faster. I was really ashamed of this and wanted to change my habits. Initially, I really didn't know how I can make a difference. I asked myself, Can I really stop corruption? I started asking my friends and colleagues for suggestions. Thats when a friend suggested that I register myself on JaagoRe since the website has a database of NGOs. I immediately did that, and have even started working on a project.Ive never felt so proud of myself.

  • excellent!

  • but he hardly explains the details of what he wants to propose ......bad presentation skills...

  • There is no Indian "race" nor black "race" nor any other race than the human race, don't be ignorant, that would be a good start.

  • its probably b/c its TEDIndia.. held in Infosys Mysore campus, India ... and these are some basic problems in our country India... Corruption has gone into the blood of the govt ppl...

  • what about ending the source it self?

Money, yes we dont need this instrument anymore, not even trade, we need share, and a united humanity, no stupid retro things like law, state, stablished instituitions...lets be in date.

  • Tho it sounds utopian, I agree. They constantly try to "reform" and "correct" the emperor who is obviously naked and brutal. Corruption, bribe, repression and sickness are built into the system. Corruption is just another genuine market. It goes from bribing local bureaucrats for small favors, over bank operations to marketing (brainwashing), tortures, invasions and wars.

  • I agree with you!

Have you heard about the Zeitgeist Movement?

  • Then wait till IBM is no longer the sponsor

  • india is awesome.

if you have a problem with the indian way of doing it you are probably an authoritarian.

  • @1schwererziehbar1 I thank you for the compliment.

  • What about the flip-side of the system being abused? A case where a citizen harasses an honest government official threatening him that he will call this service if his case does not get expedited? What will either side have as proof? Will the official be harassed for no reason? Demands for bribery are almost always verbal and never written. So will the official be considered guilty unless proven innocent?

  • How does the culture or behavior change within institutions if there are no consequences when practicing corrupt behavior? How are incentives going to be built into the model so that behavior changes? How is transparency going to be built into the model so that behavior changes? How are consequences going to be built into the model so that behavior/culture changes?

  • In my opinion, corruption is the #1 problem facing humanity, and we have no real way of countering it. Any time spent thinking of ways to expurgate this corruption is well spent, but I don't see how you can ask a corrupt establishment to police itself.

  • Ohh, we have the answers. We just need to spread awareness. The answer to corruption, is to understand the environment within which it manifests. Namely, scarcity.

We can do something about this. Check out The Zeitgeist Movement

  • Zeitgeist is on the right track, but not perfect.

AI Technocracy is not the answer.

  • You're right. And Zeitgeist isn't AI Technocracy.

Human beings make decisions. Machines are used to automate those decisions. In fact, zeitgeist doesn't suggest AI, it just suggest automation, which is going to happen no matter what. It's happening already.

The core of the Zeitgeist Movement isn't even about the technology. It's about fundamentally sound ways of using the technology we do have in humane ways, rather than profitable ways.

Zeitgeist is without a doubt on the right track.

  • @NihilistImp That's why I think moving from a Monetary Based Economy to a Resource Based Economy is the solution. Take money out of the equation. To know more about a Resource Based Economy search on the internet for The Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement

  • this talk presents an abstract idea that mather wishes to accomplish without setting out concrete markers of progress for that goal or any kind of specific plan of action. without those two things it comes off as an idealistic talk of a dream. i felt it was kind of worthless in respect to its title of fighting corruption. the one point of interest is his company of 1298 ambulance, he should have made that the focus of his talk.

  • "an insane person does not know what an impossible task is"

  • I respect Shaffi Mather and his effort to fight against corruption. The simple way to do something against corruption is "publication". Tape or record the moments and then post them on online, youtube or media sites.

Please write comments related to this subject. Some of commenters do not seem to understand what corruption means. Corruption happens not only financially, but also logically. Be fair yourself before writing something.

  • Social Entrepreneurship rocks so much.

It really should be the future.

Also, medicine should be #1 on the social status chain.

Much love and respect to all the righteous medical staff in the world.

  • too bad that medical staff can't spread the truth about Natural Cures ... or they loose their license

and fda would be out of business

side effects would be out of business

american guinea pigs would be the minority - not the majority

  • If I promise to donate 5 million Euros to the Bulgarian government, money that can be used to improve the lives of Bulgarians, in exchange for Bulgarian citizenship, am I guilty of corruption? And if so, who cares?

  • "an insane person does not know what an impossible task is" bravo, sir!

  • it's a great idea, i just wish there wasn't a "for-profit" solution to everything - very New Democrat.

  • Social entrepreneurship at it's best - amazing!

  • Shaffi Mather is awesome!

  • AWESOME

The idea of a for-profit service to combat corruption, is both hilarious and amazing if it actually works.

  • how come i have to see al gores stupid face every time i watch ted talks!

  • I find it ironic that there is a talk about ending corruption and then there is a commercial at the end calling for more corruption

  • Exactly! As if charging the average person is the answer for everything. I can see the same happening here. They are putting up cameras at more and more intersections. The thing that pisses me off, is that business and homes are centralized in cities because this is most economical. Well, I guess they want to change the rules now huh?!!

  • Did you miss the part where the people in the city voted for it? That's not corruption, that's democracy. Just because you disagree with the verdict doesn't make it evil.

  • It's not hard to sell the public on a shitty idea. I'm sure you would agree with that.

  • Want to hit all organized crime hard? Legalize all drugs, or even just marijuana (the drug cartels biggest income 40%) would do good, all would bankrupt them completely. This would cause great harm to the black marked, and therefor effect all organized crime that get income from the black marked. Organized crime + lots of money = power and corruption.

  • Right, and legalize sex with anyone and anything under any conditions?

  • With anyone above 16 years, with anything, under any conditions but public.

I have a feeling you are trying to be sarcastic here, what is your point?

  • Oh, so 16 is the day it should be legal? Not 15 years and 364 days old?

The point is that some things have to be forbidden, and when something is forbidden you're going to have a criminal element doing it anyway and/or enabling others to do it.

  • No, as everyone knows at 15 years and 364 days one is still to immature to experience and comprehend the pleasures of sex. Duh!

  • nothing should be forbidden, but understanding should prevail

  • Ah, we should be "understanding" when a perv rapes our 3 year-old, submitting that it was "consensual"?

SICK social experimentation. Those "primitive" ancients knew better.

  • Haha. You think a lot about underage sex, don`t you? Did you get turned on just by writing your comment? You perv. Lol.

  • 1000 people have ideas and strong opinions of how to solve a problem.

only 1 person has the balls to put their solution to work. Nice work Shafi, we're behind you, fail or succeed.

  • sometimes you require more than balls to put solutions to work,

  • Where courage is abundant, nothing can hinder doing. Succeeding or failing on the other hand, is a different matter entirely.

  • the answer is: The Zeitgeist Movement!

  • what was the question? Lol

  • "What's the most annoying thing on the internet today?"

  • the answer to your question would be "aleceth"

  • cute.

  • what is the ethical difference between his plan to combat bribes and a regular bribe? you are still paying money to someone in order to be able to get something done in which you should not pay any money at all. the only difference that I can see is the amount of money you pay and to whom you pay. I like this man but to me it seems that he is just making a business out of bribery.

  • Very good point. He is the ultimate bribe Pimp. Lol.

  • It's over the table and a legitimate venue. Really, they basically sound like lawyers.

  • the venus project is the solution

  • what is the problem?

  • you could be a serious problem

  • Haha. My dick would definately be a serious problem for your ass. Lol.

  • If you want a corrupt man, give him an illusion of righteousness and morality.

    Give him religion.

  • Give him your ass. That will totally corrupt him. Lol. He will become a Mohawkbooty bandit forever. Lol.

  • great way to put it

  • @MohawkMangopit Religion is the opium of humanity, i have seen people how make their trust in God a way to make inmoral acts, they strongly believe they will be forgiven every time they commit a sin, this self forgiveness its interfiering qith our moral and thoughtfull side.

  • @isashiwm Because they are taught this life doesn't matter and the next life is forever. This is the most amazing fallacy known to mankind that is used to manipulate people into whatever you want them to do, which in religions case, control their way of life.

  • @CntthnkO15 i think we all agree with this view, im glad to see this kind of comments of people actually having a conversation unlike many other youtube comments.

  • If you want to corrupt a men, just give him power. Power means connections, capital, popularity and brute force.

We all seek it, but there are systems or social structures that can limit ones power. Decentralization and transparency are key factors.

Inequality means centralization and private property means opacity. There is no way to end corruption under capitalist rule.

  • its not capitalism.. its democracy.

  • Representative democracy, actually. There are other forms that avoid centralization.

One characteristic of capitalism is that minority control almost all the wealth. If we look global, then capitalism is 3% more decentralized than monarchism since 5% own 95% of the wealth. To access information in capitalism you need regulation from that same central government again. Madness, isn't it.

  • According to Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, the corruption is directly related to the size of the government to GDP. Whatever happened to the shrinking of the government?

  • @igorkrupitsky Can money buy me Bulgarian citizenship? I've no idea where and how to broach the subject.

  • a small govt, means limits to power. right now the US gov't is in the business of preserving its power, not the prosperity or well being of its citizens. which is why we see the exploding police state.

  • nice wife beater

  • thank you. I only wish you had a wife you could beat it to too. Lol.

  • Corruption is the biggest threat to democracy!!

  • @humanist7117 Corruption is a useful tool for me. If only I can master it well enough.

  • Sick!!

  • I think the last Segment of traffic reduction was really inventive idea, but i think it should apply only to wealthy countries (mostly European). It wouldn't work in North America or India or even china, where the most ppl work very hard to earn money to at least full fill their daily requirements.

  • I think it depends more on the city than the country. Even the fee doesn't have to be excruciating; almost any fee will inspire more people to carpool or use public transportation. Personally, i'm a big fan of using the less crowded toll roads.

  • well may be you are right ! but i am big fan of using electric cars which doesn't give penny to OIL Giants, remember the cars running around in movie "Minority Report". Electric and Solar cars are the longterm answer to lot of corruption, invasion, excuse of invasion, climate friendly. I want to ask this to every one: Why do you think hybrid car were introduced this late ? haha because Oil Giants can play soccer in moon .. that was joke but seriously its the biggest question !!

  • That will answer lot of question, how do terrorist gets their funds, what is the reason there are still soldiers trying burn themselves to full fill their leaders shyytiest and evilest hallucinations of manipulating ppl's mind . Don't you think if our giant NASA, ISRO, UK-Space stations can live through sun charging batteries, then why can't just 4 wheel run through soler batteries. !! Why can't our so called developed country fund money in making cars like that !! Sorry man if i bore you :S

  • I think the day will come when people will stop believe in any Politicians and finally realize that all of these are making rules for you and your country are big fat leeches and lier. When will 100 % pure leader will come !! ohh wait you wouldn't even get voting ticket lol I agree ..now gov't make corruption legal .. haha i hope Karma works faster .. you do corruption you die instantly .. that's going to be lot of death in all Parliaments all over the world.

  • But.. islam is an enemy of humanity...

  • nope he is muslim. And it doesnt matter move on.

  • all religion, including Islam and Christianity, are problems in the world that need to be fixed. Especially Islam.

    watch?v=0cuwn17lX6c

    K?

    k..

  • @newexperiment ¨We should start with you, the Youtube troll. If we fix that, the rest will fix itself. Lol.

  • I'm not trollling.. islam IS a serious problem.

  • If you take IS out of islam, you get a circumsized lame (lam). Seems to me that IS is the problem. Less IS and more lam(e) is the way to go. Let`s start with you newexperiment. Experiment with this: remove all IS from your sentences. Thank you. And stay lam(e).

  • That was a terrible attempt at being smart. No one can defend a belief in a book that says

Quran:9:123 Fight the unbelievers around you, and let them find harshness in you.

Ishaq:530 Get out of his way, you infidel unbelievers. Every good thing goes with the Apostle. Lord, I believe in his word. We will fight you about its interpretations as we have fought you about its revelation with strokes that will remove heads from shoulders and make enemies of friends.

    ^^^??? BARBARIC.

  • Actually that was an attempt at being retarded. But I am not as good at it as you are. Lol.

  • It's retarded to use violence to solve disagreements.. RETARDED. you're god asks you to be RETARDED.

    =..(

  • So what you are saying is that I am retarded because I choose to be, but that you are just plain retarded? Lol.

  • Mohamed was a child molesting retarded gay man.

  • Haha. I guess it takes one to know one. Lol.

  • Your last scentence isn't english. And america (where I don't live, nice try) has a lot more to be ashamed of than what you mentioned.

    But.....

naming other evils does not make mohamed less evil or barbaric. Nor does it make islam more tolerable. Shame on your teachers and those who chose your curriculum for not teaching you just some basic basic logic.

  • I guess you were talking to me ...

    my last statement ...

That's why the worst of them all if on a $20

the worst president is andrew jackson .....

I could care less where you live ....

  • oh.. that's why the worst of them all IS on a 20$. Poor people that don't know what they're saying, lawl. just repeat expressions they pick up.

  • @newexperiment

no .. I didn't pick that up from anywhere ...

I said that and I teach it also ...

anyone carrying a $20 in their pocket is carrying evil right along with them ... it's the curse that keeps America falling backwards ...

and you and your kind don't want Obama to fix America ... because then he will make all the presidents in the past look like the crooks they really are. ... sad that it takes black man to be honest.

when they say blacks are the liars and the crooks.

    ha ha ha ha

  • Poor believers... You think representations of things are the things themselves. Like a picture of an evil man is it's self evil, which is sooooo stupid that I can't respect you anymore, you are an embarrassment to humanity just like your religion.

  • Nonprofits are part of the free market, as opposed to the govt.

The free market solves almost every social problem better than the govt does.

This speaker is a great example of this tendency.

  • Comment removed

  • The "market" is inevitably "free". Even in the USSR, North Korea and Cuba--there was always an enormous black market. The market is not a system chosen by men, it is the result of men being together and making choices. The govt is just another group of people, like non-profit or for-profit organizations, each works for the interest of the people who direct their resources (people inevitably choose between what they can see--and are therefore interested in).

  • Unfortunately the people in the gov get to choose which black market organisations get targeted with the military.

  • You just know that this guy has gotten his fair share of bribes and kick backs. One doesn't get rich without walking the shady line.

  • It just goes to show you can't be too careful.

  • Moving talk but after 8min i got transfixed on the vest he has under his shirt.

  • Ha, I got it at 4 minutes..

  • God bless this man...

  • Oh, dunno.

I applaud Shaffi for his efforts and he is on the right track, but has yet to fully figure it out.

I think Jacques Fresco has thought this subject out much further and deeper to a more meaningful and civilized solution.

  • @TalladegaTom

I agree with your comment about Fresco. Despite my affection for his vision there are serious problems with enacting the goals of the Venus Project.

Fresco stops short when challenged with serious critique in stating something along the lines of 'the transition will be tough'.

Who programs the computer that will dictate resource allocation? By what standard? What happens when someone can't take a private cruise when they want because the computer has dictated otherwise?

  • The computer would allocate materials based on availability of those materials. If, and, then, etc. If there is a need for more housing in X city, then the materials are allocated. Based on material availability, production capacity, and population. There is probably a lot more to it. But I think you can see what I mean.

:) Anything can be worked out if you work through it.

  • @hutchings000

Is there a medium used for exchange, money?

  • @Nogard229

If the system is set up properly, then you wouldn't require a medium of exchange. Food, water, shelter, the essentials get covered first. Education, access to certain facilities. Travel, community, performing arts, science technology. They all stem from the principal idea that everyone is equally entitled to all things. Creating a culture that is functional while working together, instead of against each other. Like community, rather than competitors. (Ants...poor analogy)

  • @hutchings000

Sorry man, but that society wouldn't work IMO.

    No exchange medium = failure.

  • @Nogard229

I wonder if in some way, the system does have a medium of "exchange" however, the individuals involved are not exchanging with other individuals, they are exchanging resources with the system itself. If I build a robotic farm. The farm produces food at minimal labor cost, that "revenu" resource, is then consumed by the public. In turn, the resources become a medium of sorts.

It would require more speculation though. Not enough room in youtube comments :)

  • @hutchings000

If you don't have an exchange medium, then resources will be mis-allocated.

  • @Nogard229

Are resources not mis-allocated in the current system?

  • @hutchings000

I do not have enough information to give you a definite answer, but...

"It is the monetary common denominator that provides the basis for an input-output calculus, a capital-income calculus that is crucial to the allocation of scarce resources. This calculus is necessary because the scarcity of means requires the careful comparison of costs and benefits, of inflows and outflows in the production process."

    -Austrian Economics

  • I checked out the Venus project.. Fresco has some good ideas, but his model of society is fundamentally flawed. It is incompatible with human nature - we have evolved as competitive social animals - always seeking the best mating partner, status, resources etc. How do we judge our well being? by comparing ourselves with other members of our society - so equality will never fly. by the way, if you have somebody / some group having a power of decision making it will inevitably get corrupted..

  • i didnt know india had fake terroists attacks created and carried out by ppl who stand to benifit monetarilly and politically, thats neat!

  • Does anybody else hear "corruption" as "corrupt shit?"

  • To me, corruption in government is a much more severe problem than corruption in corporations. A corporation can be taken down, a government cannot. American companies have taken great advantage of the third world, but this was in full knowledge of the US government. What we have is fascism (a corporate government), and it's a very dangerous entity.

  • he needs to wear a thicker shirt

  • The Venus Project or Resource Based Economy are the way forward. Stop being a slave to the monetary system.

  • whether one is enabling a capitalist, communist or socialist way of existing and that one is unmindful and sharply self-serving...well, then you suck. Heh. But if one is reasonable in thoughtfulness and in one's awareness of the value of life, them you can even be a Marxist and still be a contributing and sharing being in anyone's community.

  • while i don't disagree with your statement out of hand, I would mention that the value of life is represented differently around the globe by people & governance.

for example, massacres in countries of Africa cause out-cry in 1st world regions - myself included - but is viewed & treated by local governance as a resource & population control issue.

i think if in place of reasonable you might use humane I'd agree wholeheartedly - & i'm not disagreeing w/you on much

    cheers

  • true...your shared understandings are well welcomed. Best wishes :D

  • Did you mean: monetarism : )

  • If you want to end corruption you have to end monetaryism.

  • I'd rather end governments.

  • Does anyone know the name of the anti corruption company he was talking about?

  • Fantastic talk!

  • Drinfidel - The East is irrelevant to all westerners with their heads in the sand. If you know the answer to overcoming adversity, help others to do the same. Sitting on your porch, sipping iced tea with folded arms helps no one.

The spirit of TED Is that those WITH help those WITHOUT.

  • Drln

So you see yourself as, not a citizen of the world but, a small select group - interseting.

  • The west overcome these problems by sweeping them under the carpet .. just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not happening right now

  • Dude. The very nature of capitalism is to get something before someone else does, or do whatever it takes to keep a company afloat, irrespective of social costs. A doctor with more sick patients has a higher standard of living, etc. Corruption is so far from solved. Look at the campaign contributions to Obama AND McCain. Meryl-Lynch, Goldman Sachs, etc, etc, etc...

  • I'd say capitalism is to get something from somebody else by giving them something they want. Aren't you a capitalist? Who's money would you take if you had a car for sale for £2000? The one who offers you £1800 or the one who offers you £1900?

  • The US and Britain, through the WB and IMF, are the greatest slave owners on the planet. As for corruption, don't get me started...

You are seriously delluded and parochial in your worldview.

  • And we don't have things like that in western parts of the world? eastern demographics arent the only ones who are still having trouble with these things. slavery, corruption, and sexism are world issues not just eastern issues. Western civilizations still have a long way to go before these things are eliminated from the collective thought of western minds

  • lol @ overcoming corruption in the west... Isn't that the naive quote of the day :D

  • I live in the UK. There are still slaves here. Sexism has hardly been 'overcome'. You think we've overcome corruption? Try working in a government office and see!

  • @robzrob Every year in America, it's estimated that 300,000 children are sold for sex every year.

  • Comment removed

  • Terrible. Is it true, do you think? Unfortunately, it wouldn't surprise me if it was. :(

  • Want no corruption? Have no government. Anarchy - moral and practical.

  • anarchy just spawns governments which become corrupt. People will make pacts for mutual gain that become exclusive of outsiders causing others to join which eventually gain a hierarchy and there is the start of corruption.

  • How do you know this? Where has this happened?

  • every example of group dynamics where no structure was imposed by those outside leads to a hierarchy. from children on a play field to adults in a crisis.

  • Who are 'those outside'? In what way are they different to children in a play field or adults in a crisis?

  • @robzrob

What is the means of dispute resolution in an anarchist society? Very reasonable people often require an arbiter at some point to resolve a dispute when rational negotiation fails.

What happens when someone decides to invoke physical force to settle a dispute? Is this acceptable? If not, what entity stops hostility and by what authority?

Anarchy can only lead to an environment where the pact group (as ratholin mentioned) with the most force dictates social conduct.

  • @DoltMasher I don't mean to be a pain, but you said...

"Anarchy can only lead to an environment where the pact group (as ratholin mentioned) with the most force dictates social conduct."

That is EXACTLY the type of environment Statism or government creates.

How can Anarchy create the same EXACT environment as Statism?

It's like saying "Being sober makes you an addict."

    It's a really ridiculous argument.

  • @OpineTime

You are not a pain. I like the discussion.

Imagine you lived across the street. You painted YOUR house a color I didn't like. I hire painters to change the color of your house. You come out to protest and I shoot you dead.

An anarchist society could not hold me accoutable for my action.

I agree with your disdain for Statism. governement must exist only as a mechanism for common defense and a reasonable means of arbitrating disputes. That's it.

    Ridiculous?

  • @DoltMasher

That is EXACTLY what happens in a Statist society, except the state shoots me dead instead of you.

How can I defend myself against you and your gun? With me and my gun.

How can I defend myself against a state monopoly that will shoot me for trying to obtain a gun on my own terms? I can't. I'm dead for sure.

  • Yes, arbitrating disputes and common defense are clearly needs that many people need. Currently there are some people that try to meet this need, but if others can do this better, by taking different approaches--we may never know because competition in this market is prohibited at the point of a gun...What if Apple had to get permission from IBM to exist?

  • Pardon me for interrupting, but Anarchy in its original meaning, is interpreted as "without rulers", not "without rules".

The original Anarchists were intellectual pacifists that believed that within their social structure, leaders/rulers had become unnecessary, perhaps even dangerous.

  • Good point, Choc. Anarchy does not mean chaos.

  • Comment removed

  • I suppose disputes would be resolved with some 3rd party whose decision both disputers would agree to abide by - there's no need for govt in that. If physical force is initiated, the victim would have the right to defend his property, ie himself. I don't see how you can state so certainly that 'Anarchy can only lead to...with the most force dictates social conduct.' As OpineTime said, the 1 thing we know for sure is that a state leads to that, but what anarchy would lead to, we don't know.

  • On the contrary Robzrob. There are ample examples of what anarchy leads to, especially in Africa. Typically there are two scenarios:

    1. The lack of state power leads to the build up of regional military power groups, each controlling their territory. They may or may not be able to coexist without war.

    2. Full civil war

"Anarchy may not be the best form of government, but it is better than no government at all..." :-)

  • definitely a good lecture, he was reading it a bit too much though :P

    hehe

  • Apparently, Shaffi Mather hasn't seen 'Orientation Presentation'.

You can't fight corruption in a monetary system. Money itself is the root of corruption. We just patch, and patch, and patch, instead of tackling issues from it's roots.

  • Campaign contribution = bribe

  • 0:39 LOLOLOL look down in the right corner, a guy is finding a treasure!!!

  • what?

  • Haha. Good video though.

  • corruption is in the soul, its going to be hard to beat
