@niglecs no it was a welded 6061 aluminum stem. Lowest grade aluminum constructed in the weakest way possible.

@desvio2000 6061 isnt the weakest aluminum alloy. the material is fine, its probably the welded part that caused it to fail.

there are lot of parts that are made of 6061, its a common aluminum not only for bike parts.

parts breaking is more of the design than the material itself. i would choose a well designed 6061 part than a crap design 7075 part

@lbkiml 6061 is a very soft weak aluminum. 6066 is way stronger in every way from the 60 series. In any case I use a forged 2014 stem, its 100 grams lighter than the one in this video that broke and I have been using it 3 years now.
