They might have the backing vocal mic channels submixed, and fed to the main mix through an expander configured as a voiceover ducker, with the control input Y-ed from the sidechain loop of Trent's mic channel.

@romansoldierdude When Trent sings, the equipment would automatically lower the volume part way on the mics for Robin and Danny. The change would happen almost instantly, every time he makes a sound. The other two mics would be at normal volume when Danny and Robin have vocal parts while Trent isn't singing. I don't think they do in this song, but there are some in Sin.

They did have some sound problems from time to time mainly because they were completely soaked in mud from head to toe. The synths went out every few songs, and they had a ton of guitar problems. NIN is such a tech-heavy band that when you have a monsters playing the music, shit happens. Occasionally everything seemed to work like in Reptile. Something I Can Never Have is another great one from this set.
