One of the things I love and respect about Joni is that she's a "real star", and her fans made her a star --Not a fake personality brought about by a stylist or producer. If you can become famous by being who you really are, you're pretty damn amazing.
she makes a telling analysis of rock's descent into the dumbdom of heavy metal. viva the new stupidity. schlock corporate rock and the idiot spectacle at the heart of the stadium scene... bravo joni, only in canada.
@ColdChicago .../dumbdom/ of heavy metal? The huge, overlying term for a number of genres considered by many to be the new opera because of its ability to convey extreme & complex emotions? I admit some metal is quite dumb, but much of it is extremely complex and intelligently written; the way that the instruments weave together with the vocals along with in some genres either electronic digital sounds, traditional folk instruments or even full orchestras...
I was waiting for Joni to use the interviewer as an ashtray(LOL) Joni looks fab but the interviewer lookslike she just got back from a late night of partying
I love what she says about rock vs. rock 'n roll. She's been around. It's true that a lot of the rock drumming has been almost militaristic. Good rock dances, it skips, it lilts, it's not only a straight white military march.
Joni Mitchell is a very rare songwriter for women and songwriters in general i mean alot of girls just made pop records she made poetry out of albums and i think her albums are gold especially the richest of them all were Blue how i want that album to be one of the last ones i listen to before i die i love it and Live on!!! Joni Mitchell
danishwolf71 has FINALLY said the truth that has been evident for so long ...Joni is our best songwriter/intellectual/singer ...anyone else blown away by her intelligence ? I mean, DAMN ...she has NO PEERS ....no one has her talent and ability to create such amazing music/lyrics ....thank you, HittingImage ...xo
I think it just changed it and for the more interesting too. Of course it hasn't made her voice angelic anymore but whatever. It's funny cause it seems Joni just smoked more and more the older she get. And I think her classic prairie accent is great because she talks like she sings.
joni's art is beyond everything - and the good thing about being underrated is that that we kind of get to keep her to ourselves... I listen to her even more intense now than I did twenty years ago, constantly finding new layers and depths
love me my grumpy old high priestess, may she live forever
I'm damned near 44 years old, and it's taken me all this time to discover how briliant she really is. I can't get enough of her now....a wise and tender soul.
I'm 19 and new to her music. Just within the last 3 months I have bought a few Joni Mitchell albums, and my best friend gave me one for my birthday is September. I can't get enough of them and plan on purchasing more, she is true brilliance and has become one of my top 10 favourite artists. The "Taming The Tiger" album is taking awhile to grow on me, but I'm sure over time I will love it. Clouds, Chalk Mark In A Rainstorm and For The Roses are amazing thus far. Most def. get more soon! :-)
I have not yet purchased Blue, but do plan on buying it sometime soon. I've heard snippets of the songs and it does sound amazing...I've heard 'River' all the way threw - classic. :-)
@sbrownie Certainly! It's not my fav Joni album though...'Clouds' is my favourite Joni album, with Chalk Mark in second :-) But I do appreciate the overall important of Blue and respect that as a part of music history.

Yes, the cigs ruined her voice a bit, but her music isnt about the vocals....though in her youth she was flawless.

if cigarettes ruines her voice, it certainly took a LONG time to have an effect...joni's phenomenal, with or without cigs

Closest to a completely self-actualized human being I've ever seen.
She is a genius -- musical and otherwise.

Lesson of Life: If you are beloved - and truly she is - you can get away with the silliest, most contorted metaphors.
Who cares?
She's Gold.

Was one of them Blue? because if it was great choice for someone who wants to get into her it is brilliant if you haven't bought it
