Radiohead would despise this video given that it doesn't contain a single western leader. Where's Kissinger, Blair, Bush, Thatcher, Pinochet? In the words of Radiohead, 'go to sleep'.
@desertezz And not a single western leader. Double standards indeed. Clearly whoever made this has no idea just how much Radiohead despised Bush, Blair and cohorts. Do they appear? Of course not!
@BeholdZeus Pinochet maybe but Mao oversaw 80,000,000 deaths according to some. Stalin 40,000,000, Pol Pot, Castro, Tito, Ho Chi Minh, - the commies were always worse. I don't think anyone you've mentioned oversaw those numbers! (they have blood on their hands certainly but not to the extreme of others).
This song (IMO) is the most uplifting track of any Radiohead song. It starts out depressing because of how fucked up our world is, but then makes you want to get up and fight back! Because there is good in this world, and we are all capable of changing out planet for the better!
I always think of Kid A and Amnesiac as true early 21st century soundtracks. I can't think of another album, with the exception of Godspeed! You Black Emperor's Yanqui UXO, that captures the melancholy and general sense of foreboding of the past ten years as well as those two albums.
Wow this really IS one of the best things on youtube...i will always think of this as the music video especially the Tiananmen Square part(s). Love the song and the video. great job
@immelol4 That was from footage from a documentary I got from teachertube about the Berlin Wall. I can't remember the link, sorry (I made this years ago) but I believe the East German guards threw tear gas onto the western side while a bunch of people were escaping, and the people were throwing it back.... could be wrong, but I'm almost postive.
Definitely. Although... sometimes it IS impossible to understand what he's saying... especially in no surprises. The lyrics are like "It's a large brain, full up like a landfill, a job that slowly kills you" and it sounds like "It's a long walk, full of mrmrmr that chocolate slowly kills you" it took me watching the House premiere with captions to learn the lyrics I'd had stuck in my head were wrong.
Thanks so much. I just watched this again for the first time in a long time and realized I included tank man twice! I guess, because he's suitably epic, It's no big deal.
Also, I agree the deleting comments is wrong, but while I was gathering footage I came across enough holocaust deniers and blind nationalists forgiving these horrible peoples actions, I wanted to make it clear that I am not going to tolerate it.
laokratwr: I do not think equalizing mao, stalin or hitler in terms of their political convictions was what the creator of this video intended to say. No matter whether they were right or left wing: they were all dictators. So you see, history taught us that you cannot say that left is better or just as good as right. I.e. Khomeini, he was neither communist nor nazi (in the "classical" sense), nevertheless after the Islamic Revolution he ordered to kill anyone who did not share this ideology.
Thanks! It took a lot of time to gather the footage and try to find moments that were both powerful and sort of easily identifiable at the same time, though some of them are rather obscure because of either the video quality or lack of context.
Ho, it's nice. As long as you can support our winters :P There's nothing very special... But if you would be like, more precise, I could tell you what you want to know.

If U.S. empire was represented in this video, it might not come across as American propaganda to motivate more pointless wars against "evil."

Great video. Although, it's a bummer the images have little or no relation with the song's lyrics or gist.

In my head as I listen to this song, I've always thought of it as sort of a mournful protest song. So for me it has lots of relation :)

so hitler and these guys were the exact same shit?
ok nice
well this is what george w bush (or obama) and sarkozi believes: "nazism = communism"
whuy dont you ask thom yorke beliefs about that asshole?

Don't really get your point.
Each of them killed, ruined, tortured, and corrupted an unimaginable number of people.
It has nothing to do with ideaology.
