mds123069: ACORN has assisted low-income people get "liar loans" on houses that they can't afford, and those people are now losing their houses due to the mortgage crisis that ACORN held part in creating. ACORN did NOT help them by getting them subprime mortgages. Those low-income people are now WORSE off than before they met ACORN because they now have ruined credit, are broke, many are homeless, and they'll even have difficulty getting a cheap apartment.
That is well documented TranCendenZ, but I must ask if you feel based on all available information out there that the majority of low-income citizens assisted by ACORN are worse off. I have not come across any statistics that would indicate this to the be case. I do agree that in an effort to avoid unfair bank practices from disproportionately affecting the low-income community ACORN has taken it to the other extreme. Intent does have to be considered in all of this though.

Let me try to explain this to you so you may understand. The premise of her argument is that there is a double standard from certain people in-regards to going after ACORN. It is simple, the idea is that this group is corrupted therefore it should not be funded by the government. If one were to be consistent with this line of thinking, it would also mean they would be going after other groups (being funded by the government) and not singling this one group out.
Now, this question that comes to mind is this. Why this and not others? So, by following the line of reasoning, it can be assumed that this is not a mere case of justice and going after mere corruption, but selective targeting by certain groups. So if you were to take into perspective that A) they are not going after all injustices in regards to gov. funding and b) they are going after a single group, it must be assumed that it is indeed a 'witch hunt' since they are being singled out.

A contractor has a contract that ensures if they do not fulfill it they can be fined or loose the contract. ACORN does not have a contract. They got together with good and noble intentions. mds123069: ACORN has assisted low-income people get "liar loans" on houses that they can't afford, and those people are now losing their houses due to the mortgage crisis that ACORN held part in creating. ACORN did NOT help them by getting them subprime mortgages. Those low-income people are now WORSE off than before they met ACORN because they now have ruined credit, are broke, many are homeless, and they'll even have difficulty getting a cheap apartment.

I have not come across any statistics that would indicate this to the be case. I do agree that in an effort to avoid unfair bank practices from disproportionately affecting the low-income community ACORN has taken it to the other extreme. Intent does have to be considered in all of this though.

It is simple, the idea is that this group is corrupted therefore it should not be funded by the government. If one were to be consistent with this line of thinking, it would also mean they would be going after other groups (being funded by the government) and not singling this one group out.

Now, this question that comes to mind is this. Why this and not others? So, by following the line of reasoning, it can be assumed that this is not a mere case of justice and going after mere corruption, but selective targeting by certain groups. So if you were to take into perspective that A) they are not going after all injustices in regards to gov. funding and b) they are going after a single group, it must be assumed that it is indeed a 'witch hunt' since they are being singled out.

I love how she says, "don't know what that means - well, don't worry about it." How can that be the basis for her unconstitutional argument? Are we just supposed to take her word for it? You can read the Constitution of the United States of America and find out what a BILL OF ATTAINDER is and also read the Defund Acorn Act amd ujudge for yourself why Congress' action may indeed be unconstitutional.
You can then make up your own mind and realize that some networks don't want you to know the truth about what you've been buying from them.

The Problem is the two parties are too established to elect an Independent. If you could get Ron to run as a Republican with his current views as an Independent, I think you would see him get elected. His views IMO are right on with the exception of his views on War. Derik, I am a Republican primarily because I believe their political and religious (not specific religion) views mirror closer to mine; however, I think it is quite obvious that both parties are insanely corrupt. Democrats ignore groups like ACORN because they benefit from them and Republicans often use "defense" to promote their agenda. Uh, it's hardly worth debating that a statement like "...blacks and immigrants, who right-wingers hate" is so reductive as to negate the whole premise of bigotry being exclusive to right-wingers. It seems to me that the worst kind of bigotry is when it's conveniently swathed in some sort of moral outrage. This toxic form of "passion" is epidemic in political discourse and we're so used to it, which only makes it easier to forget that we can become what we hate.

I have read about half of the comments here (couldn't handle more) and I am in awe. I love how there is so much bashing about who she is rather than what she said. I guess one only needs minimal intelligence to attack someone instead of what is said. This may be a little difficult for most here but... how about you refute what she says. Give proof that contradicts what she said, and don't make such drastic assumptions. For example, she is NOT defending acorn. She wants there to be consistency.

Now, the ACORN scandal has been explained thoroughly and has been spoken of to death. So there is no need to cover something that has already been done. She is adding to the story that there is a sense of hypocrisy coming from certain members for political reasons. This is not about justice anymore, this is not about right and wrong. It is all about political gains and using the law to benefit ones own gain instead of adhering to the same sense of ethics that they preach.

Few minor points before I take off. The comparisons that are being made are that of language and accountability. What you say is pretty scary (and a slipper slope too). "Every company on up has problems", this is a form of self justification and diverting the problems to one matter and not others because it occurs. If pushed, it can be said that why bother holding one accountable to murder since it happens all the time. Very dangerous language you use.
