  • gorgeous!!! my, how young they were. so beautiful!!!

  • interesting to see him conducting, can't be easy for the orchestra.

  • It's very sad, the sound is not very good. ''Alfi'' is the great song!

  • No doubt, Dionne is good, but this song was also sung by Karen Ann Carpenter. Just listen an feel the divas sing perfect

  • @rhettmckay The Carpenters recorded many Burt Bacharach songs, but they never "What the World Needs Now", unless it is still unreleased. I fell into that myth once, but was proved wrong.

  • simple y sencillamente grandiosos!!!!

  • thank you...

    nothing can be better!

  • Burts composing and Dionnes voice are a cherished part of the 60s. Those days have passed but the music and memories survive.

  • Alfie - one of the hardest songs to sing and Dionne makes it look easy. She can't hit those notes anymore - but hell - no one is as good as they were in their prime so you can't take that from her. Amazing combination, those two.

  • Te admiro Burt !

Dionne, sos un placer con tu voz tann dulce.

    Gracias. . .

  • what a white boy can do

  • CLASSIC

  • Genius"

  • Jackie DeShannon's version of WTWNN is the definitive one.

    Warwick's is nice.

  • Hal David wrote the words, Burt Bacharach wrote the music

to WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW.

    Thanks for postin'.

  • a musical genius indeed

  • BB was a genius

  • A musical jewel. Thanks for uploading it.

  • This is the balls.

  • @Smackdaddy9 is that a conpliment?

  • Seeing Bacharach at the piano makes me think of Austin Powers' tour thru Vegas on a doubledecker.... LOL

  • I had the immense luck to be at one of her concert here in Italy... simply amazing! 2 hour- time concert of great music, with one of the most beautiful voices in the world. When she begin to sing " I know I'll never love this way again" the odience rocked!

    thank you dionne!

  • love them both.........great

  • I read in an interview that this is Burt's favorite song of ALL that he composed....I'm pretty sure I'm correct.....maybe someone out there knows?

  • @naturaltoby The song "Alfie" I mean, sorry :)

  • @naturaltoby It's "Alfie" (his fave)

  • @naturaltoby Yes. Burt has said this song and his lovely "Anyone Who Had a Heart" were his faves. The latter song was a very progressive composition for that day...first use of polyrhythms in pop music...check it out, it's lovely :~)

  • What few people know is how Burt was a stickler for how he wanted his singers to sing in certain ways for recording sessions! No deviation.

  • Amy loved this song

  • THIS IS SO MANGIFIC MUSIC I'M LOVING IT!

  • LEGEND

  • she blew the words!

  • @1joeruffin

No, Dionne did not miss the lyrics, although "Alfie" does seem truncated. The arrangement was abbreviated for live TV, so certain measures (and lyrics) were cut.

  • woof!!! this a Classic all over the world!!!!

    Miss Warwick and Mr Bacharach!!!

I was a child when they were Strong!!!

  • an absolute classic!!!

  • GREAT PAIR OF GENIUS!!

    This is music History!!

    Great Video!!

  • Just got to work with Hal David last month for the 3rd time, in Washington DC.

Bert is a great conductor also, the Tempos are perfect, I just heard him in an interview complaining about the conductors in "Promises promises" on Broadway, and what a control freak he was, now I see where he's coming from.

  • Ms Warwick and Mr. Bacharach, and oh let's not forget the greal Hal Davis!!! The best

  • alchiby@borocasonovo so glad you are so happy, lucky lady to have someone so devoted to her.Dionne & Burt bring out the best in all of us.Take care.

  • Ebony & Ivory can live together in harmony, just give peace a chance, what wonderfull

music came out of the sixties, may those days heady days always be with us

  • @alchiby Im dating a black chick from work,,,she's gorgeous...I joke that she's the Dionne warwick to my Burt Bacharach.

  • @alchiby AMEN.. can we all become blind to color and open I hearts to love.. I dislike people of all races on a given day.. but i love all as if they were my brother all days of the week.. I care less about your color... and wonder more about your heart and mind..

  • What a great clip of Dionne and Burt in their youth!

"Without true love we just exist"—such profound words

  • If I had to choose just one voice to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be hers.

  • @Waszma AMEN! She was in a league all her own!

  • Amezing! Beautifull!

  • @networkse7en Which one dummy?

  • great sweet voice

  • AWSOME!!!!

  • i love this songs, gosh i wish i was born in those years

  • @maria461 Yes, I was born in 1962 and enjoyed it all very much. The 60's were another world altogether.

  • ...can you imagine bacharach, conti and carol

bayer sayer together in 'everchanging times'?

  • Classic!!!

  • dionne got many award because shes sooooooo greeeaaaattt

  • LOVE - it's all about Love!

  • what a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaautiful song...

  • Michael Cain was perfect in that role.

If he didn't get an academy award nod he should have.

  • Nothing like listening to some of your favorite songs played by the composer. And as far as I'm concerned these can only be done by Dionne, even though others have "tried" to do Alfie.

Michael Jackson was asked during an interview what some of his favorite songs were and the first thing he said was, "I like Burt Bacharach."

  • @8mycrab He is my favorite as well. My two favorite songs of his is, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head and Arthurs Theme which he wrote w/ Christopher Cross. Personally, the Michael Cain version of Alfie was waaay better. Something about Cain's sophitication in the whole film impresses me.

  • Susie thanks for sharing this lovely video, didn;t know this about Michael. I love Dionne Warwick.

  • Don't forget to give credit to lyricist Hal David, here. David and Bacharach collaborated for years, just a great team. Of course many of these songs were written specifically for the great Ms. Warwick.

  • bacharach a total genius in music ,warwick the voice of a angel .together pure magic ...apart just average

  • The Carpenters made millions from Burt's tunes. Burt was an excellent writer.

  • @DORSEY12100 nothing either of these geniuses did was average - Bert's melodies have stood the test of time.. and as for singers ..doesn't matter who sings..and yet his lyricist is often forgotten Hal David - best ever !!!! Dionne was perfect. Aretha was great for a couple....but Dionne was the muse that made the music - give it up !!

  • Where did this come from? Was it a TV special. I noticed she left one verse off of Alfie. That's my favorite song that she sings. She does that way better than even legend, Barbra Streisand. It's Dionne's song and she's told the story many times, that it was recorded by many and she was the only one who had a hit on it. Dionne is a legend. Too bad she smoked, but she is on key now and touring the world. She is just in a much lower key.

  • I just realized what It could have been.

Smoking- Marijuana. It crush Whitney voice too.

    Stay away from Drugs, people.

    Good Night.

    Love,

    Teri

  • Dionne Warwick voice was like liquid Gold, in the 60'

It changed, I noticed it since the 80'

I know age affect ones voice, But I think some major change.

Did she have nose surgery ? or an accident to her larynx.

If so it real Mess her voice.

Tks, for posting this Video. First time I seen her in the 60' and that voice was Amazing! then.

    Love,

    Teri

  • She smoked cigarrettes most of her life, baked her voice, it's a shame.

  • After that climax, that was just a gorgeous moment... it makes me cry every time... like almost a moment arises where it sounds like pure heartbreak... I imagine someone saying goodbye to someone and not wanting to and crying!

  • Yeah and you're never going to age right? I assume you are talking about Burt Bacharach?

  • thats the legends in the beginning of their life in music!!

  • this is when life and times were at their best

  • Times 100

  • Not if you were a soldier, African American, Korean, or a liberal.

  • true . i'm African-American but i was blessed that I didn't get exposed to the racial conflicks of the 60's. Probably because i was born in the late 60's.

  • Thats good. Its pretty sad what happened then. Who would have thought back then that in less than 60 years they would have an African American president. Go figure.

  • I wouldn't have believed it even 10 years ago if someone had told me it would happen. The American view of this country has come a LONG way from the turmoil and racism of the 50's and 60's. Blacks,Whites,Indians,Asians -- virtually all races are looking past color and creed and embracing unity. That's what the world needs. A country that fights against itself will always go under. That's what happened to Sadaam Hussein. Of course, you still have the resistant ones still lurking around. Pity!

  • Awhel, their a dieing breed I guess

  • brilliant

  • Bastards. Why are they clapping and ruining the music at the beginning?

  • zczc

Thanks for posting this musical jewel. No matter time has passed..brought me good memories..the first and lost girl..my adolescence. Now at the youth of my old age it is nice to find this videos here.

Luis a meloman from Lima Peru Latin America

    nnnn

  • no one is better than she is.

still feel moved when watch it.

  • outstanding!

  • thanks is there a possibelity to see burt playing the piece nikki which is lifted from a tv special of his in the 70's? i remember it was in the side of the pool . also when he was working using the moviola showing how he scored a scene from butch cassidy and... thanks again.,- Norman caraan

  • MKBELL, Black and Springfield charted above Warwick? Only in the United Kingdom! In the USA she was second only to Aretha Franklin as the top charting female of the rock era with 56 Billboard chart hits, 12 of them top 10 as opposed to 4 for Springfield and zero for Black. Warwick had 33 Billboard top 40 hits whereas Springfield only had 10. Black charted one time in the Billboard top 40 and once more in the Billboard top 100. Your statements here are not borne out by the facts.

  • yes, beautiful voice, beautiful woman,BEAUTIFUL SONG. I love this because her voice was higher then.

  • Wonderful!

  • At the time of this obscure broadcast, the top selling Pop female vocalist was Dionne Warwick. Sadly, her record sales were not properly refectled on the Billboard charts of those times (the 60s) because she was "Negro".

Too often, other white Popf emale artists, namely, Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield would mimic the vocal arrangement as demonstrated by Warwick's original recordings. Both of the white ladies would chart above Warwick's efforts.

    Go figure?
