One thing I can never understand is how videos like this are disliked by people. You see on every video dislikes, but with something like this it really is hard to understand as all the video does is tell you about the product. It didn't say it was the best product, it said it offered a balance of performance and noise, to me that says it is not the best it either of those, so if you are a fan of another company it is not putting that brand down, so really why the dislikes?
what is better maxtor or seagate or westen digital my hitachi has failed me i need new 500 gb hd and i found a maxtor that i like and i wondering which was better noise makes no difference and heat makes no difference because i have plenty of cooling
i had mine installed by someone good with computers and its the Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB BARRACUDA 7200.12 Drive but when i got home the computer was working great then after a couple of days i checked my memory space and saw that i had a maximum 37.2GB to use, the guy that installed is very good with computers but he has MS and think he forgot somethin, do u know how i can fix this so that i can use 500gb?
At the moment I am running this exact HDD. Only thing I can say I dont like about it is the slight ringing vibrating noise it makes. I will probably store it as a backup drive when I get my brand new WDD 500GB caviar green back from Scan ofc fingers crossed not that I can see Scan ripping me off all they have to do is run a short test on the drive with either seagate tools or the WD Diagnostics tools. Fingers xed the new one wont start dying with not even 4 months use again....
@PirateKing1256 Sounds like a BIOS problem to me in my experience. Check you have SMART turned on in your BIOS. Test the HDD with Seagate Tools for windows once you have made sure SMART is turned on.
@PirateKing1256 Had to send my WD 500GB 32mb Cavair Green back to Scan computers myself. They got it yesterday and will be tested when they get round to it. Well if you got that message it definitely points to something failing on the HDD or in very extreme cases the board. Dont know why I said BIOS straight off as it was the BIOS giving you the warning about the HDD possibly dying. Ofc I would never update a BIOS myself as will void a warranty on a motherboard best to RMA.

Considering this HDD or the Western Digital Caviar Blue? Apparently the WD support is awesome if you ever have probs. Seagate apparently become non existant according to all I have read online.
@keith23uk I'm not a big fan of the blue series, black or green for me, but personally i think this is a great hard drive and have been using it for some time now.
@eteknix Cool thanks for the response on that one. I actually then considered either the caviar green or this Seagate drive. Being it is going to be used for large data storage I went for the WD 32MB 500GB green. Really didnt like how the blue didnt save on power and similar performed to the Green according to Passmark scores I have read. Recieving it tomorrow in the post from the best computer seller online/shop here in the UK for £32+£4 pp I have faith in Seagate from experience too.
@eteknix I am very impressed with the HDD itself, I am glad I went with this model.
It came with the latest 7200.12 firmware, I have head many people complain in reviews that the read speeds were quite low due to old firmware. I am getting an average of 125 mb read and 216mb Burst.
What's the difference between this and the ST3500410AS? All that I can seem to find is that the ST3500410AS version is slightly quieter, I hope not at the expense of speed :S

After only 4 months use my 500GB WD Caviar Green has developed bad sectors and will only pass the SMART test. Not even pass the short tests!
