The city of Detroit is a hopeless shithole. How anyone can take pride in being from that dump ass city is beyond me. Love the sports teams, that's the only reason i go to that dump ever.
It really is a shame they tore this place down. I am from Chicago and frequently say it's time to get rid of Wrigley Field. After watching videos about this treasure, it's hard for me to continue thoughts of demolishing Wrigley. I never got a chance to visit this stadium and I feel like I miss it. What a shame.
In October 2006, Tiger Stadium called Comerica Park before game 3 of the ALDS between the Tigers and the Yankees and told her in a raspy wise voice "are you ready CoPa, it's gonna be a blast, you'll see" and the day after Magglio send the Tigers to their first World Series since 1984, she called back saying "you sure were right, it's magical!"
The powers that be couldve easily saved Tigers Stadium. It's obvious to me that they don't have an appreciation for baseball or it's history. Tiger Stadium was the house that Ty Cobb built!!! It made my heart sink when I watched this video. Okay I'm done bitchin' now. GO TIGERS!!
Yeah great condo idea. Let's just tear down the whole ballpark and then let it set there in wasteland for a long long time. Or better yet build some low income housing there only for nobody to purchase it while it just lay vacant. Gosh I love these morons that run the city.
What a disgusting act of human greed. That park is a huge piece of history and worth more in sentimental value than how much you can make by tearing off the seats and selling them as souvenirs.
you were wrong. It has not even been 5 years yet and there is absolutely nothing left.. Those damn Detroit city officials just don't see what they could do to that place. well oh well too late now
Only one section of the stadium remains, what a damn shame. I hate the city of Detroit and the people who run it, such idiots. Ilitch never had any interest in keeping the team there, he wanted his own park because he feels bigger then the Tiger franchise.
We would have needed a huge renovation for the stadium though. The people who came up with the idea to make comerica were lazy. Driving by the stadium, it's beat up big time.
none of this happen, Kilpatrick tour her down. Hope he takes that lose to his grave..and beyond, shame on you mr( litley used) mayor. Your own greed got you your way. I thought this was Detriot not Chicago.
yes. I live in detroit area. The project has been funded to to save as i said dugout to dugout making it a museum, office park, and amateur baseball field where one can buy a hotdog and watch baseball. This is why that portion of the park still stands.
There is a lot of tradition in that stadium. Guess your just another one of those jackasses who wants to tear down anything older than you and put up a highrise. I say they should save a portion.
All the problems plaguing the city of Detroit and all you people can do is whine about a fucking baseball park. The tigers suck anyway, so who gives a shit. But then again, it was YOU people that re-elected Kwame Kilpatrick. Good one, Detroit!
Im not a huge Tiger fan, Im a White Sox fan actually. But more importantly Im a baseball fan. I like historic buildings, I get sad when history is being destroyed forever slowly.
To the guy a few comments down 'elysesguy' you waste your time telling people your fu$#@ng insight and nobody cares to hear your negativity. Why dont you find something better to look at besides videos you get pissed off over you moron.
It has been "demolished" but only the stadium itself... the field is being preserved, as well as the flag pole, and foul poles. At least there's SOMETHING to remember the stadium by.
WOW....They tore this down to build condos? Well you know Detroit hardly has any empty space available! SHA Thousands of empty blocks burned abandonded and razed........
Well, it was an inspired idea. So much for that as they continue to knockdown a landmark. Tiger org. dropped the ball by not having one last game in there during this season. Or at least opening it up to the public for one last day to tour the grounds.
Tho old train terminal would anchor the Michigan Av. corridor. Be not fooled, these unused facilities quickly deteriorate. So this better get under way in the next 10 years or you are better off razing them.
Why not open it as a living museum? A place where all baseball fans world wide can go? Open up the field in the summer time. Play a continiuos game of baseball there. Anyone who visits the museum can pay to play 3 innings at Tiger stadium. Open up the clubhouse and put up plaques all over the park. Guided tours. A picnic area. Video screens showing old footage.Ernie Harwell describing an actual game as the sounds are piped throughout the park.Tiger stadium belongs to all baseball fans worldwide
LOL Nice idea but you will have to move the outfiedl fences in a few hundred feet and who is going to pay for the maitance of the field. Remember LLWS is free.
I just realized that what I deeply love about Detroit is what it once was. What it is now is tragic. What is being built is bland and soul-less. Detroit's greatness is all in the distant past. The train station and stadium are monuments to its lifelessness.
MLB, and all of Baseball fans should petition to save Tiger Stadium. It is a true piece of American history. Its the last of all of the original true stadiums left. Should be made a historical landmark for all the greats of baseball whom have played there.
Unfortunately enough wasn't done to try and save the stadium before Copa was built, so there's nothing that can really be done... I know it's Detroit history and a baseball landmark but CoD needs to demo the thing and fill it with homes and businesses... This way Corktown doesn't have such an eyesore in their neighborhood which results on more people living in such a great neighborhood....
I can't believe all of the anti tiger stadium rants that the detroit free press newspaper has been printing the last few weeks. Detroit must save its landmarks. Welcome to Detroit, home of the empty lots. SAVE TIGER STADIUM
A shame. Build the new Wings hockey arena here. Take a the only lesson from the Detroit Lions. Incorporate part of the original stadium as an atrium to the new arena. Bring back sports business to this ghost town near the old ball park. Whoopty do a city park for kids...nice area for that one.
and a few years later its gone

Now it is another empty field of weeds in a town filled with empty fields of weeds.
Was the destruction of this landmark really the best the City of Detroit could do?
Was a new large weed-filled lot what was needed?
Well, that's what they've got now.
Good job, idiot politicians!
