roberts playing is aggressive. funky. one of a kind. Without Rob, Metallica wouldn't have an aggressive bottom end. Metallica made a great choice years ago. Wouldn't trade him for anyone else.
i knew flea and rob....they are great.....i didn't knew les claypool and wooten...after many videos i could say that wooten, indeed stits on all of them....but the question is....why noone knows wooten????and all know cliff burton????i think that socrates theory has given us the truth....the truth we all have inside us.....CLIFF SHITS ON OVER US
LOL!! How can you call that a solo when you are stealing licks from zeppeling and other bands that could actually make their own music?? Just a question is all i have...I didnt hear anything original just meshing different songs and other artists stuff together.
Trujillo can't play bass worth a shit. My mother could do better. Most, if not all of his "bass playing," is bullshit hype and nonsense. He substitutes skilled bass playing with "bass ass" looking stances like wearing his bass low on his shoulder, goofy basketball outfits, spreading his legs out and low, sweat pouring out of a face that looks like he just got fucked up the ass by a hung horse. The moron is all hype and poor bass playing geared toward idiots who think losers like this "kick ass."
@HUCKEBUCKE Not to shit on Jason, because the guy's heart was always in it, but he tended to be prone to what I like to call spacebass. Lots of spacey echo effects. I like Jason, but I think, notice I said "I THINK" that Rob is much better at than Jason technically speaking.
@jammer88jijoe Indeed, he uses Warwick basses and got his own signature model. But it's weird that Fernandes Gravity Deluxe bass guitars are still his main bass guitars...
@slapthatbass97 first of all, i've never, ever insulted you slapthatbass97, so don't insult me. ok? You must be 14 or something... now, a better bassist, Paul McCartney, not the best but he is better. Playing bass is not about being faster or having an amazing speed. Listen to Dear Prudence, or Come Together, maybe Hey Bulldog... just to name a few.
@zeromant80 if your stuck in the 60s and 70s maybe. Welcome to 2011. Yes he plays fast but he has more feeling than other any bassist out there. Hes revolutionizing the instrument with his techniques and making it into a lead instrument but still manages to keep the groove and rhythm while. Musicians who can communicate with other musicians the way he can, brings music to a different level. I love the oldies but its old. Make way for the new.
@zeromant80 yeah the arguement of best goes on forever.. when talking about technical ability there is no real winner any fat fuck who sits on his ass for hours with any instrument can master it.. what narrows it down would be the sound and originality that actually comes from the instrument.. in this case paul maccartney is the winner in my opinion.. just thinkin about dear prudence and come together.. dammnn.. victor wooten is amazing though
@morzan383 Nope. im not saying victor wooten sux. he's got MAD SKILLS... but Paul has his thing u know? even wooten said paul was his inspiration... i like both of them
@MrEddie2861 Dude, Victor is good and all. But Wtf, he just slaps and plucks random ass notes really fast & makes it sound good, Robert knows this shit.
@panterask8r14 ......................you sir, know nothing.......victor wooten know 3x the amount of music theory as Rob, and is one of the best jazz bassists ive heard.... next thing your going to try and tell me "jaco pastorius sucked".....i find your comment offensive
@NoRaces Lol indeed that was a rather ignorant comment, but not for your reasoning. First off, everyone has different styles in bass, (overall Music as far as that goes); so with that alone being said, there's no "best bass player in the world".
And secondly... I cannot stand Victors style. Makes me wanna smash my bass & go be a Bieber fan-boy.
@panterask8r14 Well whatever you do, don't do that. But I believe you are correct. All those who say that so and so is the best in the world are opinionated. they are tuned to a style and they prefer that style over any others. and @NoRaces... no need to start a music war over Metallica. We all know the only great one is James. Kirk may have skill, but not much ability. Rob is an amazing bassist, but lacks passion and feeling a lot of the time. And lars is lars... a hairless monkey at drums.

Good job trujillo, you can slap like any bass player with 3 years playing his instrument.. now you deserve to be famous.. NOT! 2 slap patterns.. 1 scale.. *applause*
yeah, this is a bass solo, but it isn't that good, i like metallica, but if you talk about bassists, i prefer flea, jaco pastorius, victor wooten, billy sheehan, les claypool, paul mccartney, there are a lot of diferent kinds of bassists who are better than rob!
@zeverus22 Then again, Robert Trujillo isn't needed for this, they do this more as tradition for when Cliff did it and Jason too, to lead up to For Who the Bell Tolls.

@GiveInToMetal Nobody does everything. Go look up Les Claypool. Go look up Gustavo Dal Farra, John Myung, and Victor Wooten. I'm sure that Rob is better at some things than some people, but there are just as many who are better than him at other things.
Also, he needs to clean up his technique. He sounds like he's trying to strangle the bass from 3:23 to 3:48
flea is so overrated.. look at this guy.. he is truly a god.. he hardly recieved any notice before joining Metallica.. I am so glad he joined he totally suits the band, and has helped them go to a totally another level
@tomasvtk flea is epic overrated.. can he do anything besides a pop-slap? look at Rob he plays like a fucking maniac, he can slap like a maniac, i mean yes slapping ok, but cliff was the god in fingerpicking like a lead guitarist rather than slapping, and Rob does that so easily.. he's clearly better than flea
@develia lol? seems that you don't know much about Flea's playing then, and you're one sided - no point in arguing with someone like that. Bye bye, get your facts straight first, before saying anything. (Meaning that you should look up why Flea is considered one of the best bassists)
@tomdabom007 And Geddy Lee couldn't attempt a Flea bassline. Jesus Christ, can people stop arguing about who's better and just enjoy the goddamn music?
@develia Yes flea can do a lot more than slapping and popping. He is extremely good at fingerstyle, however he doesn't like picks so he does not use them. He can even play on the high frets on the top strings and sing along because he knows the exact notes and pitch of every fret. Flea also plays like a maniac, just in a funky way, not a metal way. To be honest I think that since they play for two completely different genres (Flea plays funk, Rob plays metal) so you can't compare them.
@Iliketacos091 sure rob didnt always play metal he used to play funk back in his infectious grooves days and in my opinion he is muuuuuuch better then flea then
@develia Sorry mate, I understand you may like Robert more, but they aren't in the same league at ALL. Flea is technically superior to Robert. Flea doesn't pick, because he can fingerpick anything that any other bassist could pick.
@pfcguzzo ookk i just saw what a big argument started here when people commented to me and others commented on them :P. Yes i agree i was narrow minded/drunk when i posted this. Flea is awesome yes, now that i m more acquainted to his stuff. But that does not make Rob an inferior in anyways whatsoever. I think they both have their prowess over the bass Gee-tarrrr and are two uniquely fun people to watch when they play and even more fun to hear them. Respect to both the guys with inhuman fingers.
@develia you dont know what you're talking about kid, . .flea is a great bassist, and his knowledge on the bass is so diverse, . .though i like robert trujillo too, especially in his funky infectious grooves days. . .
So who else noticed that he played immigration song by led zeppelin?

@tomdabom007 One sided. Go read about why Flea is considered one of the best bassists, then come back.

@Iliketacos091 You clearly don't know infectious grooves..

@zombislayerpwnsnoobs Do you live under a rock? jk. yes, that Flea.
Iliketacos091 4 months ago
@Iliketacos091 What you're saying is true, but Rob can also play quite funky. Try watching him play on the song Punk It Up by Infectious Grooves :)
StivHobbyKniv 4 months ago
@develia So, in short both are good, but you can't really compare since Flea doesn't do metal and Rob doesn't do funk.
Iliketacos091 6 months ago
