Hes revolutionizing the instrument with his techniques and making it into a lead instrument but still manages to keep the groove and rhythm while. Musicians who can communicate with other musicians the way he can, brings music to a different level. I love the oldies but its old. Make way for the new.

Metallica has ALWAYS been about the Guitar solos as solos go, notice the lack of Bass solos after Cliff's death.

Robert can keep time and please the crowd acting like a monkey which is why he is the bassist, plus he still has got technique, but not as bassists go, if you get me.

@develia Yes flea can do a lot more than slapping and popping. He is extremely good at fingerstyle, however he doesn't like picks so he does not use them. He can even play on the high frets on the top strings and sing along because he knows the exact notes and pitch of every fret. Flea also plays like a maniac, just in a funky way, not a metal way. To be honest I think that since they play for two completely different genres (Flea plays funk, Rob plays metal) so you can't compare them.
