ron kray shot george cornell in the blindbeggar and this song was playin when he walked in to the pub and walked over and shot george between the eyes. over a dozen in the pub and nobody said they seen anything
Wow! That John was a girl's dream come true. Look at those pants. And his harmony vocals were breathtaking. Most people don't know in the studio version, John sang lead from the hook. Scott's voice was too deep to reach the range of the melody in the chorus. So they switched and Scott sang harmony during the chorus.
This was originally sung by Frankie Valli as a solo vehicle for him-strange he and The Walker Bros. were fellow Mercury Labelmates..Strange Bedfellows, indeed!
disappointing if you first got into scott's later stuff (the drift, tilt) and moved backwards chronologically. at first i thought this was garbage. in fact, i still think that it is pretty mediocre. however, it is very interesting to see where he came from as an artist.
I saw a documentary on Scott Walker by accident. I looked up the Walker Brothers, now I am hooked. Perfect pop confection with a dash of wall of sound.
Saw these guys at the California Ballroom in Dunstable Bedforshire in the 60's, sadly the Ballroom is no more, nore the Pub ,,The Rifleman that was on the corner, fantastic times.

Great voice and great song written by Bob Gaudio of The 4 Seasons. Wish Scott Walker / Engell was still singing these songs today i dont think even he realises or appreciates just how good they are . He later went on 2 record some of the strangest songs totally off the wall. Great shame
@TheSilkyman wrote: "Great voice and great song written by Bob Gaudio of The 4 Seasons."
I agree. It's such a great melody, a great recording of a great voice, great arrangement and great strings chart. (Gaudio also penned SILENCE IS GOLDEN, which I also love)
Despite quantum leaps (pardon the cliche) in recording technology there was some amazing music back then that will stand the test of time (oops, sawwy again) and the largely anonymous engineers deserve much of the credit.
If you want to see and hear a live vocal performance of this song, visit sambda's channel and find the clip that times out at 3:16. You get to experience how truly magnificent Scott's voice was (with only a few off notes). Then join the ranks of the addicted by exploring the next 45 years of his eclectic and visionary career.
Yes I first heard this on the Walking Dead, I don't listen to the radio, so this is where I find my music, movie trailers are very good places to start looking for good music.
I got to say that comparing these two singers tells quite much about them. Look at John, how much he seems to be enjoying, he's dancing and he's "open", while Scott looks like he's going to break down in a second, so delicate and uncomfortable, he's almost hiding his whole face with the microphone.
For all you music lovers, you HAVE to listen to croatian's cover of this song: It's called ''Dorian Gray - Sjaj u tami''. It was made in the 80's, but it's still a classic, it has a bit different sound, but it's one of the rare covers which are better than original. Enjoy!
Anyone who loves Scott and isn't familiar with Gary Puckett should check him out in his prime. "This Girl Is a Woman, Now," Woman, Woman," Young Girl," etc.
Like Scott Walker, Gary had a majestic baritone voice - no bombast, just pure, powerful, timeless quality. He outsold every make artist in the world in 66 or so, I believe...and with good reason.
Where are the great baritone balladeers, nowadays?
When this song first came out I always thought it was the Righteous Brothers. This is a great song with great vocals and that wonderful Wall of Sound orchestral music. Peace.
I'm in my mid 50's too, and this brings back so many memories. Such a classic song - thanks for posting this and bringing back those days for us old folks : )
First time I heard them (Make It Easy On Yourself), I thought they were trying to parody the Righteous Brothers. I eventually learned otherwise, but Scott does sound sort of like Bill Medley.
I actually met the Walker Brothers at Batley Variety Club. It was my birthday and my older brother took me to see them. He knew the club manager and arranged for me to meet them after the show. I went into their dressing room. I can remeber being extremely shy and star struck, but they were really lovely guys. Living just a few miles from the famous Batley Variety Club, I was lucky enough to see many sixties groups perform live, and the Walker Brothes were one of the best.
Scott Walker is one of popular music's hidden geniuses. Please check out the documentary SCOTT WALKER: 30th CENTURY MAN. He has influenced the likes of Radiohead, Bowie, The Smiths, Pulp and countless other great bands. There is so much more to discover if you like this song!
