  • The iron palm, right into the liver, full power must have been pretty devastating..Though his Sifu follow up with the punch probably KO or killed the other guy..

  • Wspaniały człowiek, wspaniały sifu, ciężko mi oderwać się od prowadzonych przez niego lekcji Wing Chun Aaaa! ;)

  • There are many a great Sifu in Wing Chun .... Not all can be great teachers.... but Gary Lam is a great Sifu and a great teacher... I wish I lived in Oakland so I might share his wisdom.

  • I heard Gary has been involved in many real fight situations in the past. Is this true?

  • Sifu lam was a champion full contact fighter in his younger days. He has also trained champion muay thai fighters in his school in HK. and yes...in his younger wild days...he was known to do some street fighting.

  • Thanks. I had heard certain things but never knew he had done all that. One thing with Gary he doesn't strut about with an egotistical attitude. He just gets on with it and does it very well!

  • Sifu Gary Lam is very open.

  • interesting...

i thought the gs was added as a kick broke his leg? in the kung fu tournament he entered where he wrote his famous poem about 'dividing kingdoms'?

either way wsl's wc is fantastic!

  • Up till this event, the gaun sao didn't come in until Biu Jee,which in those days could take years .The importance of this tool made it a nesesity to move it's theory forward to the SNT.Our house still has both the jum and the gaun movement in the SNT to remember and compare this issue.

Jum sao is very good at draining the energy from an opponents attack but without turning will still let in contact, where gaun sao will not.

  • Even thought the Jum sao was not low enough the block the low palm strike instead of using a gaun Sao you could also lower your stance a bit to make the jum sao work.

  • Gary lam is talking about wong shun leang, the gaun sau was added when wong told ip man what had happend,so they added it to the system, jum sau wasnt low enough, makes sense to me,

  • interesting...I've heard Ip Ching say that Ip Man changed the gum sao(here jut sao) to a garn sao in 1967.

  • Why don't you guys just SHUT THE HELL UP and LISTEN and LEARN!!!

If you've got nothing constructive to add, well then, CLAM IT!!!

  • lol. which wingchun doesnt have gan sau?:P

  • Ive seen loads of forms without it, or they have it in a different section.

  • hes talking about how Yip Man removed it from the form but it was replaced after WSL had a fight and got hit with a low attack .

  • Read! People, read! The move was added to the FIRST form SLT and I SAID: had WSL waited until he finished the third form, BJ, before he went out to "talk hands". There was no reason for the addition! LOL!

  • If you watch the whole DVD, he was referring to the last section of SIU NIM TAU. Not VING TSUN as whole.

  • Interesting as the Gan Sau is in Leung Ting's system also.

  • Well duh, Leung Thug tagged along Ip Man at a much later time so the addition had already been made long before the Thug claimed he was the "slammed door' student of Ip Man!

  • I suppose although he was originally taught by Leung Sheung.

Who cares anyway at the end of the day lineage does'nt mean shit if it's not effective.

  • Thug was LS's student's student. It depends on one's definition of "effectiveness". Unfortunately these days, many learn a little and immediately try to test it without practicing much. They fail miserably but conclude what they just learned was not effective. That's why many dump _ing__un (that may not be a bad thing, less cleansing) and opt for much easier skill like boxing and just plain bum fight on the ground. I think that's a cultural and mentality thing. =)

  • 'It's Better to have Mastered 1 technique than to know a thousand and not have mastered Any of them'.

  • @tillerbear you are so right with that thanks for publishing

  • @tillerbear This is the real thing dude. I totally agree with you.

  • boxing and mma are all about pressure testing their techniques....inside the confines of their rules. i like the aliveness of those arts, but they leave out ALOT for street use.

  • That explains one of many discrepancies in the WC forms. I heard of the same story about WSL being hit by low attack and the GS move was subsequently added to the first form. Well, duh, had WSL waited until he finish the third form before he went out to "talk hands", the addition to the first form would not be necessary. As hard as I try to understanding sifu Lam, sometime I still don't get 100% but at least I get the general idea. Thanks! =)

  • do you train under Gary ?
