I'm not very well studied when it comes to draft horses and driving. Horses can carry about 20% of their body weight and naturally they can pull more than they can carry. Although this would differ between wheeled vehicles such as carts/carriages/sulkys etc. and sleds. I know this probably didn't help very much. You can probably find some more if you google it. ;)
they probubly do logging withthese horses at home. that is the oly time i hae ever seen the muscles build up like that. these horses arnt just for show. jreat video.
Its not inhumane, if the horses cannot pull any more then they quit, thats how the competition works. They only allow the horses to pull as much as they can. The belgian on the left is so heavily muscled, its amazing, I've never seen a horse with such broad, muscled chest.
@Equestrian08 can you tell me how much weight a single one of these large horses can pull by itself? I'm also curious if when two of them are harnessed how much weight they can pull. I've heard that 2 horses can pull several times more than just a single horse. . . not just double.
I agree. Draft horses seem to love pulling, as much as sled dogs love to pull and gun dogs love to hunt. Animals love to do the things they're good at, just like people. For those horses, pulling that load is simple, but if for some reason they weren't able to do it, or they couldn't, the owner would call them off right away. It's just for show.
Those are some mutated looking horses right there... Draft horses are supposed to have legs like tree trunks, what's going on with these two?

thats horrible but awesome

Why is it horrible?
Draft horses have been bred for many many centuries (some breeds more) to PULL.....and they love it.
Like a retreiver is bred to fetch, a pointer is bred to point, a ratter is bred to hunt rat, so draft horses are bred to PULL.

But not such ridiculous weights which put huge strains on their joints and tendons.
This is because people want to show off. It does not benefit the animal, and does not reflect the purpose for which it was bred.

no it's not just look at them pacing in the beginning, they love that shit!
They're like... "hey check us out, we're freakishly strong. and cool."
