  • I wonder how many of you know this song was written by Cher?

  • @BADGrant01 Source. Now.

  • @AntoineTheSwannn

Dude, that is extremely rude. I'll get your source, but not right now. You'll just have to wait until you can come up with some manners.

  • This reminds me of watching the movie in 8th grade history.

  • @Yupthisismaname first saw the movie in 5th grade (at my teacher's recommendation) and I loved it. I recorded it on TIVO and now have it on DVD. Such a sad song.

  • This is so true on our nation's 235 birthday...War is hell...Thank you to all who serve others in all capacities for our freedom.

  • And, here it is 2011 and a soldier's lot has barely changed. God bless anyone with the wherewithal to live and die defending their (my) freedom on the field of battle. I agree w/Walkyrie. Let's hope one day kids will see this and wonder, 'what the hell were our ancestors thinking?' and shake their heads with their greater wisdom and peaceful lives.

  • I saw this on stage the first time during the Viet Nam war and I cried because it was so telling about war and dying on the battle field. Everyone needs to remember that freedom does not come free. We have what we have due to men and women who sacrificed their selves to make this nation what it is to day.

  • I got LOTR vibes from the opening lines.

  • @MrFlyingAmoeba Friend, this show was written 29 years before Return of the King came out. So any "LOTR vibes you got was music styling that were stolen from this show. Far from the other way around. lol

  • @ChefHummel24 I didn't say they stole it, I know the timeline ordering.

  • I saw this on Broadway back in the late 60s. I had a brother in VietNam at the time. Lots of mixed message at that time. Incredible play & movie. Same actors for both.

  • @VValkyrie It made it to Broadway in 1969, in the middle of some bad times both here in the States and in Vietnam (my tours 64' to 67'). Parts of this musical are very funny and incrediably moving anf thought provoking. Indeed mixed messages, in a time of mixed ideals and emotions. Hope your brother came away unhurt and unaffected, so many did not, such is any war. Perhaps the day will come in our grandchildrens time when all they know of conflict will be these films, unlikely, but prayed for.

  • There is no glory in war except in having it finished. This powerful song reminds us of the human toll in armed conflict and how each loss is personal and devastating.

  • So sad makes me want to cry

  • “I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”~~Rabindranath Tagore

Thank you to the women and men who served, are serving and who will serve. Happy Independence Day!

  • Excellent post for our Independence Day and, I think, as a nice song to remember those who have died in service to America on our Memorial Day.

    Thankful-Lee ..

    David

  • @dlpine71 I love the "Thankful-Lee" part. XD Great reference!
