It was just like Miles to play this "Time After Time" and not the old standard (ie "time after time I tell my self that I'm...etc) no instead of that old chestnut he played this one by Cindy Lauper..cuz that's what TRUE jazz cats do...play a new interpretation of the LATEST thing...jazz today is dry repetitive and for the most part uninspiring because too nay jazz cats don't think like Miles...they only want to regurgitate the same things Bird , Diz, Monk, Miles and Trane did
@sonwamac : you're right. It's much easier to understand what the improvising musician is doing when you know the standard really well. No matter what, today's audience isn't going to know the Broadway standards as well as Miles's audience did---even if they really try to do so.
I had a dream: John Abercrombie, Marcus Miller, Joe Zawinul (left keyboards), Herbie Hancock (right keyboards), Dave Weckl on drums, and some others, were performing with Miles, after 1984 ... what a dream ...

Does any one know why Miles Davis has taken "time after time" from Cindy Lauper and later why this piece met much success?
gewix 1 year ago
@gewix Because it is a beautiful tune. Cindy is a very underrated songwriter.

@gewix This is so out of tune, i cannot believe this is the artist that made Kind of Blue
dniez1 1 year ago
@dniez1 its not that out of tune, but, Miles was out of shape at this point. He was just starting to play after a long break.
