  • they should have done the Genesis 3 as a stand alone 32x

  • Do you have a rattlesnake in there ?

  • LOL

  • that a model 2 sega genesis not a neptune

  • @ivertualgamer seriously?

  • @wintersrain86 what do you mean by seriously why dont just call the title model 2 sega megadrive playing 32x games or modded sega megadrive

  • @ivertualgamer read the description ;-)

  • I bet there's someone in the next room playing an fps... call of duty maybe?

  • totally not a genesis

  • to bad the neptune was never released, it would be cool though if you could make a case fromt the picture and then you would have a naptune

  • @mrdtmaurice the neptune got personified in hyperdimension neptunia LOL

  • @mrdtmaurice lol, naptune. that sounds like the mac version of napster.

  • thanks man make a tut!!

  • Dude nice mod now you're genisis doesn't have to look like a freaking space tank with the 32 x.

  • Take THAT Sega! :P This is what they should have done! Dude, Sega needs....YOU!

  • cool....make me one please

  • I read it. But how'd you get it?

  • why does the genesis logo thing stick out more than it should?

  • lol! amazing job!

  • Great job!

  • i dont care what it is. thats fuckin incredible!!!

  • wow a moded model 2 sega genesis isn't a neptune

  • seen ur info of how to make this it looks cool but i wouldent have a clue it looks solid could you do this with a megadrive model 1 i guess it may be easier with the model 1 as it has a bigger case

  • do that to mine, i love 32x games but i hate the add on.

  • congrats you have a model 2 genesis not a neptune

  • What black magic did you use to allow 32x games to be played on your genesis

  • Couldja put some downloadable instructions 'coz I bought a Genesis 2 and 32x tried to combine them and epicly failed. My Mom has just grounded me for it. Good thing I still got my Genesis 1 I've had since before I was born! I will never modify it for it is my favorite and first console!

  • Hmm, wasn't the Suga Neptune the one that never got created?

the console that had 32-bit, instead of the 32x add on to the Genesis?

Heh, if so, you've a homebuilt Neptune xD, but with a look as Genesis.

    Nice work

  • @DragonUltraMaster

Neptune was a planned console, basically a 32X as its own console. The idea was scraped as the Saturn was on its way.

  • You should create a genuine mould of the neptune case (or at least as close as possible so it looks and functions like the neptune.

  • That's an interesting modification, but it's not the neptune.

  • This ain't Sega Neptune it's Sega Genesis.

  • Read the description, it's a mod. Genesis plus 32x inside a Genesis 2 shell. A fan-made Neptune.

  • However, anyone can cite a system as superior just by numbers and features.

But, do not forget that the software is a far more important aspect.

Without good games, even the most powerful video game system is worthless.

  • For the longest time, the bit rating was measured according to how the CPU processed data, although liberties in marketing were taken sometimes.

The bit-wars became a meaningless nomenclature after the 32/64-bit era.

A better measure would be the number of floating-point and integer calculations the architecture can execute in a given space of time from both testing and, more importantly, real world computing as well as how efficiently and optimally you can program the system to number crunch.

  • Cool mod!

  • ok the silence is killing me.

  • HOLY SHIT! IT DOES EXIST!

  • @ShadeTaco

No, this was a VERY talented modification of a regular Sega Genesis by shoehorning 32X circuitry inside it.

The Sega Neptune never made it into the prototype stages; pictures of the Neptune console was that of a non-functional plastic mock-up.

  • big ups to the 32X, loved the system even though it only had 35 games. Grossly underated, but was definetly to costly.

  • Comment removed

  • What is that sound ? Sounds like the Predator is in the room with you 0_0

  • lmao it does sound like a predator.

  • The Neptune was a theoretical system Sega had in the works that never saw the light of day. Instead Sega made the 32X thinking it would reduce cost of production & extend the life of the genesis. Unfortunately Neither of these options were good. They would have been much better off just making an entirely new system & bypassing the Sega CD, the 32X & the Saturn all together. They should have went right to the DC. Believe me! I would have much rather paid $400.00 for the DC than for the Saturn.

  • @wingnut4427 Why does everyone group the Saturn in with the Mega-CD and 32X as 'Sega's line of shitty add-ons'? Anyone who would pay 400 dollars for a console that was built as a PS1 on steroids and rehashed the 3D Saturn controller with LESS buttons should be kicked in the nuts. Even at $200 the DC was a rip-off.

If Sega went straight from the Megadrive/Genesis to the Saturn, they would've been fine, end of story.

  • @strykah92 that's true. But standing on it's own against the Play station & the soon to arrive x-box it was doomed. Don't get me wrong. I always loved Sega but they had so many goof up's prior that the saturn was doomed. But you are correct. It would have done well if it had jumped from the Genesis to the saturn right away.

  • @wingnut4427 Likewise I was also an avid fan of Sega, but their biggest goof-up was Sega THEMSELVES openly disowning the Saturn as a piece of shit because they were so helllbent to hype up the DC. Ironically in Japan, where the Saturn was a success, the Dreamcast initally got nowhere and the Saturn lived on. It wasn't really until Street Fighter 3rd Strike was released that it began to take off over there.

In short, the Saturn didn't suck, it was just misunderstood unfortunately.

  • what? 32x games work on a regular genesis?

  • No it is a mod

  • well i guess thats kinda interesting but 32x blows waste of modding

  • Oh I see what your saying. Thanks for clarifying.

  • -_- no. Consoles were not rated on their GPU performance but their CPU performance (with the exception of the Turbografx). Also the notion that that my single core GPU at 700MHz is more powerful than my dual core CPU at 2.1GHz is asinine. Also they don't make 128 and 256 bit GPUs. That's the RAM they're talking about. Bits were just a number used to get attention for their console. The 16 bit Intellivision was far less powerful than the 8 bit NES. See? Bits =/= more power

  • Well Done.

  • If sega would have not made the 32x and make the neptune then we would have the saturn in the 128 bit era(the saturn would have the grafics of the dreamcast)and we would have the dreamcast now with the grafics of the 360 and people might be able to save sega. That is why i hate the 32x!!!!!!!!!

  • 1. there is no 128bit systems. 2. saturn was out in japan in 94 before 32x was so no one bought 32x . 3. saturn had poor advertising that is why it died plus no rpgs. 4. dreamcast died because of bootleg games and no dvd player which ps2 had. 5. graphics have little to do with whether or not a console sells example is the wii. 6.owned

  • I disagree with your #5 because kids today who didn't grow up with the systems like us only care about graphics, they all get 360 and ps3's because they beat the Wii's graphics, the only thing keeping Nintendo going is the older fans who grew up with the systems and buy them for them self's or there kids knowing that Nintendo is a fun and solid system.

  • No the only thing keeping the Wii going is the Cooking Mama and other crap games that get your grandparents playing. The Wii has so many good games that are buried under the thousands of shovelware titles that none of the hardcore gamers even take the Wii seriously. I love the Wii although I don't own one. I do plan to get one eventually.

  • Those hardcore games are on the other consoles and run much better on them than on it.

  • you do make a good point, even though you have three thumbs down...

  • The Dreamcast and the PS2 were both 128bit. Xbox was 64bit and Gamecube was 32bit and that just proved that bits didn't really matter. My PC is 32 bit even though it's more powerful than the Dreamcast and PS2 combined.

  • i looked at the specs for both dreamcast is 64 bit, ps2 was 64 bit, xbox was 32 bit, gamecube was using 64 bits as well. clearly bits are not used as much as they were nor are they to brag about. seeing how your pulling shit outta your ass go look up on multiple websites because i just looked up on 3 websites and they had the same information about each console. if you don't believe me look it up for yourself. just google (insert name) specs.

  • No. PS2 and DC were 128-bit. Gamecube and Xbox were 32-bit.

  • i just looked it up and read on it you didn't even go look for christ sake. go read it on multiple websites before you come to conclusions as such.

  • Found a site that says DC is 32-bit. Your point?

  • Do i really need to explain myself?

  • No the Dreamcast is 128bit. You're right about the PS2 and Xbox though. I should have just checked wikipedia. I was quoting a long dead article on gamefaqs. They marketed it as such and would have been sued long ago for false advertising like apple was for 3G. 3G was said to be twice as fast yet it wasn't even close so they were sued.

  • i must have misread thanks for the catch there.

  • Who gives a fuck? This video is for the 32x/Genesis console at 32 Bits, 60hz.

    Understand?

  • that is weird because the xbox's framerate is a little better then the ps2 DC and GC

  • The xbox I believed to be more powerful than all 3.

  • It was yet was still 32 bit.

  • "1. there is no 128bit systems"

    The PlayStation 2 is a 128-bit architecture.

"3. saturn had poor advertising that is why it died"

That's but one factor. Another was that Sega jumped the gun by releasing the Saturn in the U.S. several months ahead of schedule. The attempt was to beat Nintendo and Sony to market, but the system was selling before most of the games could be finished for release; even 3rd party developers were caught off-guard by Sega's move.

  • Aren't the Gamecube and Dreamcast 128-bit systems?

  • @Anawnymous

Technically the Dreamcast and GameCube were both 32-bit systems as their CPUs, the Hitachi SH-4 and the IBM PowerPC Gekko respectively, are 32-bit; like the X-Box (Intel Pentium III CPU, nVidia X-GPU graphics), the power of the system was in the PowerVR (Dreamcast) and ATi (GameCube) graphics architectures of those systems as opposed to their CPUs.

The PlayStation 2 EmotionEngine is 64-bit but can execute 128-bit wide instructions in SIMD; under that you could call it 128-bit.

  • @Watcher3223 absolutely right

  • But, the fact that the X-Box, GameCube, and Dreamcast systems would be considered 32-bit if the judgment was based purely on the processor goes to show how misguided and petty the bit wars really are.

What matters most in a system is how it can practically perform, including how many numbers it can crunch at once.

  • Yes

  • why did I get 5 tumbs down on my last comment? Was it because I didnt know what it was called?God I hate fan boys.

  • He custom made this. Yours is just a regular Genesis model 2, and it can't play 32x games.

  • this pile of shit was scraped very quickly cause on the sega genesis you had the sega cd THEN you had to but the sega 32X then they thought to make a sega neptune which is the sega 32x on its own cause the sega 32x you had to own a sega genesis why could'nt they just make a sega neptune on its own. but anyways it sucked cause the ps1 and the n64 came out a few years later and they totaly smashed this pile of shit right in its face

  • maybe both

  • Did you have a wood pecker in the room with you or is it just and old computer with a loud hard drive?

  • probably a fan. mine does the same thing...

  • hey look! the bit wars are starting all over again!

  • I'm going to Japan and Work at Nintendo!

I'l make it so they can make an agreement with Sega that Nintendo will help and give advice for a next Gen Sega Console,

    The Sega Jupiter!

  • yeah, dreaming is also very cool.

  • in a good way or in a bad way ? :)

  • bad way

  • waddafuuuck that was soooo fuckin boring!!

  • coolio!

  • Awesome man!!! Seriously, you need to pimp that, because its bad ass.

  • dude if only i hade a genesis 2 or a 32x to combine the two either way awesome will it work if i buy a 32x and use a genesis/megadrive

  • so what exactly is that third port on the back? since a stock model 2 only had a/v and power.......

  • The third port is the power adapter for the 32X. His mod had two power adapters and one video out. He modified his plans to eliminate the second adapter and is the version I used to make my mod.

  • that is pretty good job man . basically you just made your own...even though the sega 32x sucked anyway still impressive you did what they where going to do

  • This is amazing! You are a genius!

  • Erm thats a Model 2 Sega Mega Drive/Genesis with a Sega 32x Motherboard installed in it, or your using another genesis thats off camera too trick us because the circuituray system wouldn't allow it to work. But still thats an american Genesis not a Mega Drive like mineso it might have different tweaks inside.

Out of intrest does anybody own the successor to this model to this Genesis, the genesis 3, there were like 1000 made or something and there rare.

  • Have you failed to read the comment? I think you have ;)

  • Too few people read the comments :\

  • I own a Genesis 3! They are tiny...

  • @damiannerd

only 100 made? the genesis 3 was not even made by sega and there were WAY WAY more then just 100 made. probably millions were made.

  • @damiannerd

it's a real mod check out the link.

  • @damiannerd MUCH more than 1000. Because it was made in 1998, and I think roughly 100,000+ sold. it's acutally a bit common.

  • @damiannerd there not rare dude. there pretty cheap

  • This is awesome, I want one!

  • me too

  • Maybe SEGA would've survived in the console market had they released the Neptune instead of the 32x... but it IS pretty badass to have a giant tumor on top of a genesis that plays games.

  • actually they would of survived longer with a next gen console after dreamcast if it wasnt for sony for suing them for using there disc reading technology without saying that they were helped by sony they did with the sega cd but not with the dreamcast

  • What on Earth are you talking about? No such lawsuit exists as far as I can ascertain. Furthermore, SEGA didn't survive because they ran out of money. The 32X was an abysmal failure and the Saturn didn't do nearly well enough outside of Japan to give SEGA enough finances to last past the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was a last hurrah that SEGA themselves knew would be their last console no matter how well it did.

  • Sony holds no patents for "disc reading technology," so they would've had no right to sue; the patents for reflective optical discs actually belong to Pioneer, which they bought when they acquired DiscoVision Associates, formerly MCA DiscoVision which, along with Philips, invented Laservision, a.k.a. LaserDisc.

  • Sega would've been in far better shape if they didn't try to prop up the Genesis/Mega Drive with anything, period.

The 32X and Neptune were totally unnecessary as Sega had Saturn. They should've devoted their energies towards the future rather than try to milk the 16-bit cash cow that was dried up long ago.

  • somehow i think u wiki'd up ur first comment anyways if sega devoted there energy on the dreamcast when rumours of the N64 started to become reality and since sega managed to pull out another console that released to late they started to lose money then because people took there dreamcasts back for the ps2 also seganet was down so it wasnt fun to play on anymore which was y they bought ps2 because they had playstationnet

  • No wiki.

I've known that well before Wiki existed since I've been into LaserDisc for a few years.

As for a major reason why the Dreamcast lost: piracy.

You are aware of how easy it is to copy Dreamcast games and make those copies bootable without a mod chip?

If you were making games on the Dreamcast, would you stay with it if it were that easy to copy games?

  • wait a minute how do u know that laserdiscs were involved with piracy and u didnt need to chip ur console for pirate games to work besides most companys who make games actually dont care if there game is pirated they use this to there advantage they look for were they are most pirated and sell them there because they no people in that area are after that game and release it there infact most game developers no there game is on the internet they watch u download it they could rat u out at anytime

  • When I mentioned piracy, I was talking about the Dreamcast. The ease of piracy on the Dreamcast was a major reason for its failure.

The relevancy of the LaserDisc discussion is that it has one thing in common with every other reflective optical disc format, from CD to Blu-Ray: the idea of reflective optical scanning.

Pioneer owns that patent, so that meant that everyone that made products that used the technology had to pay Pioneer a royalty, including Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega.

  • Secondly, you better believe that the game companies care about piracy.

The game companies make money by creating and selling software. Piracy aims to copy the product and sell it without giving anything to the game companies, which means those companies get no money from the pirated sale.

If they can't earn money from their work, why would they continue working?

  • piracy is worser thenever the only1 i no that has stopped piracy at the moment is sonys ps3 since its writers are so expensive wii,ps2 and xbox360 are the worst with piracy xbox360 made it so if u open the xbox it will lose its warranty and wont fix it it worked for awhile till people started making methods on how they fix them also they have a way to cover it up on xbox live so microsoft cant trace ur ip address.i actually no this through videos on youtube but wont try it myself or let any1else

  • If you open ANY console in the warranty period, you'll void it. What's your point?

As for XBox 360 mods, it's not tracing your IP address but, rather, if you logon to XBox Live, their server is going to challenge the authenticity of your console to detect modifications.

If your console fails that challenge, XBox Live will block your hacked console (either by MAC address or the console's serial number), but not your IP address, from accessing their service.

  • The Dreamcast failed because of exploits that allowed computer access to the GD-ROM drive via the ethernet adapter. Copies can be played by using a boot disc or by making the CD-R in such a way that it can boot by itself.

Sega fixed this problem with a revised console, but it was too late as the majority of consoles sold had the exploit, so 3rd parties left because the security of their revenue stream with the Dreamcast couldn't be assured.

  • As for online warez, it's not as easy to monitor and shut down as you think it is.

For every pirate you shut down, there are many others that spring up to take its place. And, there's lots of traffic on P2P and torrent sites, including a few that are legitimate.

That's a lot of effort to sort out and find those who are downloading illegal stuff.

It's easier to remove the files and seeds than go after downloaders but, again, for every one you take down, there are lots who'll take its place.

  • And, going back to the Dreamcast issue.

You basically need to make modifications or do things that could cause damage to a PS-2 to, at least, be able to swap discs, whether you copied the actual game disc or burned a disc image you downloaded from Pirate Bay or Limewire.

You didn't need to do anything like that for a Dreamcast to boot copies.

  • oh so that was wot pirate bay was for no wonder it was used in so many jokes in college

  • Very cool.

I just got my Nomad unit back a couple of days ago...(See my nostalgia video)

Was wondering what i could do to modify it.

For now it seems i will be restoring it to mint. Changing the screen , cleaning it A-Z.

Would you believe the NIMH battery still keeps a 3 hour charge after 12 year?! amazing!

You should really contact Sega about putting this thing in a museeum somewhere. =)

  • I wish sega had made the neptune... it would have been awesome!

  • the guy who owns a local shop that has vintage games has like 6 32x`s but is missing one cable to it i had seen them on ebay but coudlnt find them then i found the inrtuctions for this and showed him, he may have someone try and make one, i said i may try and so hes gonna give me a 32x when i buy my genisis!

  • i wanna see the sega wondermega. that thing looks sweet!

  • Awesome man, favourited, subscribed and 5/5 :)

  • You do realize you can look in the comment and see insides of the Neptune? Idiot

  • its a 32xreplaced with the sega genesis

  • that not a neptune? it dont look like it? but it plays the 32x games??

  • It's a makeshift Neptune made by hacking a genesis and a 32x. check out the link n the description.

  • they said that the neptune even dit,nt see the drawing boards but that has been thismissed by wikipedia cliaming that there was a prototype model of the neptune.

i wonder if there was also a prototype model of the svp addon.

  • probably. there is a prototype of every invention.

  • too bad his account is suspended, i want to find out how to mod mine!

  • He didn't say this was the Neptune.

This is a Sega Genesis modified to play only 32X games standalone.

So essentially, it is exactly what the Neptune would have been, had it had been released.

  • thats not the neptune its the genesis the neptune wasnt even released.

  • no dude, its not the original neptune, its just one made by the guy o.õ

  • is the neptune compatible with the scd?

  • no, but they had 32x cd games which required both sega cd and 32x to play

  • that's not what i meant.

    at all.

    really.

what i meant was is there an extension port for the SCD?

  • not that i know of

  • for the model 2, its on the right side

  • omg dude that is totally awesome. i want one ;_; besides, that would look nice and slim with a model 2 SegaCD next to it. not like with a real 32X attached lookin like a tumor n all.

and btw, the 32X isn't bypassed for Genesis games. besides the fact if it was bypassed then the original Virtua Racing would work. i've tested with Hard Drivin' that the game actually looked clearer playing through a 32X. i was using composite cables.

  • You can't play Genesis carts though right? Would it be possible to install a switch to play either Genesis or 32X carts?

I doubt he would sell this on ebay since it takes a lot of time for all of that soldering,.. what a nightmare! :P

  • Yes it still plays Genesis carts. The 32x it just bypassed.

I didn't sell it on eBay. Someone commissioned me to make it.

  • Very cool. I love stuff like this. Now to put a SWC copier into a Super Nintendo :)

  • Its a pretty genius idea, he just wired the outputs of the 32X to the cartridge slot pins of genesis to make the genesis think the 32X is plugged into the slot, then placed the 32X slot where the genesis slot goes and BAM! Sega Neptune. My only concern is that all those electronics in such a small space might overheat, next mod: beastly cooling fan.

  • I tested it for 24 hours so I don't think heat is a concern.

  • Awesome! :) Now only if that could be done with a model 1.

  • probably easier to do with a model one seeing as how the casing is bigger.

  • Great job dude. Kudos for your guide as well :)

  • That was clearly a 32X game.

    The Sega Neptune never released.

  • True. But he modded the components of the 32X with the Genesis and the Neptune was supposed to be a combined 32X/ Genesis unit. So I give this guy kudos for making it.

  • You should sell them on eBay

  • This is the best thing ever!!I'd like one of those (wink!);)
