  • the ports are definitely NOT perfect. the screens on monster world iii and iv are stretched by a few pixels to fill the screen a little bit more. which means if you choose "smooth filtering" on monster world iii or iv, which you need to do if you want the graphics to look accurate, the screen will look like shit. if you have the game you can see this for yourself. start up monster world iii. select smooth filtering and push select for the pause menu. then push the shoulder buttons to see it.

  • am i the only one who searched this up because of sega:ages is sega backwards?

  • Do I need to understand japanese to play them or is it only a platform game that requires no japanese skills?

  • monster land 1, still the best of these, imo, but that's just me... thanks for the upload though...

  • Now that is a serious and worthy collection! Not the 1000 Sonic that everyone already has. Come on SEGA gather your pieces and resurrect yourself! And not only release these wonderful gems in Japan but Europe and West as well!

  • Sega really needs to consider another Wonderboy/Monster World game after Sonic 4. Lush HD 2D graphics ..... yep thats the dream.

It would be of course a downloadable game on PSN, XBLA and Wii Shop.

  • I have a copy of this game for my jap ps2 console. Well thats because i grew up with this series back in the days and i love the it so much.

  • are there any sega age games avalible outside in the us rather then all just in japan its to bad really because they look very impressive lucky japs they get all the good stuff

  • @relicz1 Monsterworld is released as Wonderboy 2, MW2 as Wonderboy 3; both for the mastersystem. MW3 is released as Wonderboy 5 for the genesis.

MW4 and 6 (which is not in the video) were never released, but you can find fanmade translated ROM's on the web. The SEGA management were idiot's for not releasing those outside Japan.

The 16-bit version of Monsterworld for the arcade is also available in English.

  • @noxure There's an english reproduction cart of MW6 available on a few sites, I got one myself a few years ago.

  • While it is nice to see that they are making an official "collection" (not just re-releasing them on the virtual console), I'd really like to see a new Wonder Boy (or Monster World) game sometime, even if it's just a Wii Ware title or something. That would be great, as this is a truly great series and I hate that it's been 15 years since MW4.

  • wtf? Sega lazy asses could had at least improve the graphic

  • I wish someone would release this outside of Japan, Would love tom play MWIV (i know i can play them on emulator, but want to play it on my TV and sitting on a couch :P)

  • @Redfoxe I know how ya feel

  • Just signed the petition, I want to play these games again soooo badly

  • i'm seriously considering getting this, the only stumbling block is that i'd have to learn Japanese to play WB 2,3and 4. Very tasty looking compilation nevertheless

  • The collection has every version of all the games on there so you can play them all in English but MW IV because it was the only one to not get a English version.

  • Yeah i should of realised that as i already own the Fantasy Zone ps2 collection thats got all versions on it too. Thanks for the info

  • @majinpowers No, it's missing the Western version of the SMS version ow Monster Land.

Also it doesn't contain every port either, only Sega console ones.

  • dragon's trap is the jam! Lion-man!!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Nice nice!

  • how many was there? I remember playing Wonder Boy in Monster Land over and over again, the one with the labryinth at the end...

  • MWIV... great game, but pretty damn hard. Almost metroidvania-ish but more linear..

  • Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (aka Monster World) is one of the best games ever made.

  • I agree. The Dragon's Trap is one of the best. I've played it over and over again on the Master Syste.

  • the game look easy

  • it isn't.

  • great series!

  • I badly want this Game. There is a petition on the "petitionspot website" to get this game released.

Type in "petitionspot wonderboy" at Google

We need a lot more signatures.

  • what are you talking about... it's already released... I own this game and it's truely "WONDERful" :P but seriously it is.

  • But it's in Japanese. the petition is for getting it released in America and Europe.

  • The Wonder Boy/Monster World series was confusing; Sega holds the rights to names and characters in the series, while Westone (the developer of Wonder Boy) retained the rights to everything else. Of course, that's the reason why Hudson made Adventure Island until new games came in.

  • what ythis game

  • Why cant they release this outside of japan?!?!

    Wonder boy rocks!!

  • It's due to the poor sales of Sega Classics Collection on PS2; the 3D remakes were mostly bad from the start. At least Sega broke away from D3 Publisher to ensure higher quality. They assigned M2 to take care of the new games in the Sega Ages lineup.

  • I think it is because there was no Sonic game in sight.....

  • Also Working Desgins went out of business in 2005, as they published a Saturn version of Sega Ages.

  • Man, I remember playing 3, that was probably my favorite. The music still sticks in the head too. :)

  • Do you get any cool extras besides the games? Artwork or interviews?

  • Well it's about time this was released. YEY!!

  • I want this man. For what platform?

  • It's for the PlayStation 2.
