  • THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry to say that I had never been and Angela Bofill fan....Until I heard this performance.

  • i cry every time i hear it...ever since i was little

  • I've never turn the radio station when this song was on. FACT

  • I was IN LOVE with this woman in 1979-84! I use to dream of meeting her and making her my lady lol! Thank you for posting this treasure!

  • @jizzy2k. IDIOT

  • this needs to be chopped & screwed

  • WOW!!! Two Thumbs up!! I've loved Angie since I first saw the album cover for this song.

The Tonight show???? Well go head Johhny Carson! Back then on a week night I couldn't stay up that late to see this. LOL!!

  • She is one of the reasons I only listen to old school music. I absolutely love her.

  • Classic!

  • Another great singer from the day great vocals and beautiful lady. This song took me way back . Her and Phyliss Hyman, What happened to singers like this ..

  • i absolutely LOVE this song and to see it live.....AMAZING!! she is sooooo talented and the scatting was brilliant!

  • I don't think anyone else should EVER try and sing this song. Just leave this one from Angie ALONE! I know this was cut off but I think we get it... unbelievable and untouchable.

  • I have loved this special lady's music ever since I was a child. It feels good to see her sing live! She is so beautiful and I feel grateful to have been exposed to her music!

  • Wow!

  • Her and Phyllis...man they were my first loves...5 year old punk running around in the 80s freezing when i heard their voices.

and I tell you something else, when she points in that video @ 2:45...if I was in the general vicinity of that finger's aim I would've passed out like a little beeya

  • Wasn't she so beautiful?! What a voice. Thank you for posting this...it cut off but I got just enough to make me smile.

  • God touches certain singers with a special gift every so often. Ella is one, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha, Phyllis and Angie are among the few. They transcend all the others. That is just how it is. I am just glad I got to experience them. I keep Angela in my prayers for a complete healing. Hope all you out there do the same. God just has to hear us. Love to all you good music lovers.

  • This takes me waaaaay baaaack! LOL!!! My mom used to play her albums as we cleaned the house on Saturdays. I can still smell Window Cleaner and" Spic N Span" LOL!!!!!

  • I love this woman! I hope the best of everything for Angie!

  • This was very nice. I never heard her scat. She did the darn thing. She's a beautiful talent.

  • Wiz Khalifaaaa broughttt meee hereeeee

  • than U 4 this

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! Angela Bofill is probably THE definition of the "Unsung" artist. (TV1 - You MUST profile her for Season 3!) Beautiful, talented, unique - TRULY an angel. I've seen her perform three times and she is such a gem to behold in concert. Glad to see that she is back on the concert trail, although right now she is only able to speak and not sing due to her two strokes. Let's pray she comes back fully and graces us with her heavenly singing voice again!

  • Wow I love this woman I have all her LP's and now CD'S.

  • I don't know why, but I always get Angela Bofill and Phyllis Hyman mixxed up. Both are amazing singers and equally beautiful. Love them both. I know Phyllis is no longer with us, but I haven't really heard anything about Angela. Is she still around, still singing?

  • beautiful song sung by a beautiful lady....thanks for the post

  • Just wonderful, thank you for sharing!! X Karlijn

  • I will always love you Angelita of the night

  • so sexyyyyy

  • i listen to everything, but this right here......timeless, im only 26, and i know "real" music...

  • vintage but still great.... where is she? what a voice!

  • @alanboobz I VOTED OOOOH SO WRONG!!!! I AM SO SORRY CUZ I DEFINITELY AGREE!!! I LOVE HER AND I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • The music of Angie Bofill is the soundtrack of my life during the late seventies and early eighties. I can't hear a song of hers and not look back on my youth with fondness and happiness. I fell in love with her sound the first time I heard the 1977 LP "Angie." She sings with impeccable authority. It's a treat to see and hear her live. I place her in the ranks of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. I love this sister; I love her sound even more!

  • Tamia has alot of her swag

  • @nochokin I AGREE WITH YOU

  • Beautiful and can sing. Thats as good as it gets.

  • This woman cannot be touched.. I remember listening to my cousin play her songs when I was around 12-13 years old growing up in NYC.., and I couldn't help but notice the raw talent and richness of her voice.. Artists today are unable to bring it to this level...

  • This song brings back memories.....

  • Angela bofill is my first teacher of jazz RB!!!!

  • I used to love this song as a kid. REAL MUSIC aaaahhhhhhh where did it go???

  • 1:22 - 1:58 (replacing the sax solo) UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • I love her and I also love this song! It's amazing =)

  • Angela Bofill was amazing..I too think she was and is sorely underrated!!! I never heard her scat... go ahead Angie ...I ain't mad atcha!

  • DAMMIT ANGIE!!!!!!!

  • what's up with the 5 dislikes on this video? angela bofill did an excellent job on here with no flaws as usual. ;)

then again, those 5 people who disliked this video are probably pleasure p and the dream fans. who knows? lol.

  • she should really be given the honor that she deserves. she's one of the greatest divas of all time

  • Oh man!! That was absolutely Great! You do not hear singing like that anymore! And on top of that, homegirl can scat!! God Bless you Angie, wishing for a full recovery.

  • Great song and beautiful voice! She reminds me of Phyllis Hyman.

  • That's a shame it's cut off at the end. This is absolutely sublime perfection.

  • My God llove this woman....She is good

  • this woman introduced me to jazz music. thx Angela Bofill for helping me appreicate grown music.

  • Thanks for sharing!!

  • Nice!!!!! Sung only the way that Angela, could sing it!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • rif that Angela, rif that baby!!!!!!! Been hooked on you since 89'

    best wishes!

    the kid hartford

  • She was better at Town Hall in NYC.

  • Her vocal improv in the middle shows her voice as a divine instrument.

  • Classic..thanks for posting!

  • you should transfer this over to dvd before it's too late!

  • @five10queen

Thanks. I did just to keep it what I have left.

  • Angie, you truly have a special gift from God. All my friends and I wish you well on your recovery and we will be there at whatever venue when you decide to perform again. Yemoja asa aya bi Olokun.

  • i would love to see the end. she was about to bring it. what a diva. she is so divine.

  • SHE GOT KISSED ON HER MOUTH BY hawt MJ

    AMAs 1984

    oh yes baby

  • wow... sooo good

  • She wrote this song when she was 16!

  • So ahead of her time..So beautiful.

  • Don't forget that Angela Bofill was a great songwriter too. This was one of her original compositions.

  • love love love her!!

  • Amazing voice!!! Just amazing!!!!

  • God she is beautiful!!!!!

  • yes Lawd!!!! Thanks for posting this

  • Wow. Wonderful. Thank You for posting this.

  • Angela, jah Bless!

  • I grew up listening to this lady...my parents have all of her albums....beautiful lady! I wonder why no one has remade this song or "Tonight I Give In"

  • @PrettyVillan Truth is there is no real talent. I think it's better to leave classics alone like "Tonight I Give In" butchered by today's non talents. People like Angie Bofill, Jean Carne, Phyllis Hyman, and Teena Marie cannot be touch.

  • @rufus317 i LOVE your comment!

  • @rufus317 AMEN! ALSO WHITNEY! Even after her horrible problems, she is still Whitney and no one will ever match her!

  • @rufus317 exactly, leave the classics alone we dont need a beyonce or mariah trying to sing this

  • @spirit69warrior

speak the truth!!! the divas/so called divas of nowaday don't have the vibration/soul to even comprehend what it takes to express this kind of love....peace

  • @BrankNapptism LMAO I'm only 21 and I dont listen to the garabe thats out thse days

  • @rufus317 agree

  • @rufus317 Amen!!!!! I saw all of the women you mentioned. Luther Vandross opened for Angela Bofil back in 1981. Kenny G opened for Phyllis Hyman back in 1986. I saw Jean Carne back in the 80's too.

  • No Real Man could hear this song and not give in to his woman. Angela was bewitching and beautiful. Class and true god-given talent like hers and other past female vocalists of the era seems to be forever gone.

  • I can't get over how beautiful she is....she takes my breathe away...Damn !!! xoxoxo

  • I was just typing how beautiful she was! lol!

  • This is an awesome performance! Angela's voice is ANGELIC!

  • Angela Bofill is iconic in her own right...she is an amazing talent and voice. Her illness curtailed her undisplayed greatness. She was just geting started when illness struck. I can't imagine where she would be now if she had continued...

  • Good News...I hear she is going to therapy and practicing her singing. When she gets well (cause God is Good and it will happen) We've GOT to get to her concert and support.

  • back then, gals had to actually have a strong singing voice and look good- times have changed for the worse.

these "singers" today look terrible and sound worse!

  • Bring back music like this!

  • She visited her mom in the hospitAl.angela is still beautiful with her pouty lips, but she doesn't sing anymore due to her illness...I really wanted to ask for her autograph but I was hesitAnt...she's just a cute little girl now!

  • Last time I saw her was years ago in a production of God Don't Like Ugly; she made a guest appearance. She sang Angel of the Night and I Try. That silky tone was clear and strong.

  • She is singing again. She was getting too many people coming by her room listening to hear when she sang. So she said she was going to wait till she moved to her own apartment. She is making a comeback...

  • I spent countless times playing her first 2 LP's. Love the voice. I just found out she had health problems and has no health insurance. She is accepting donations on her website. Hopefully the record label Arista/RCA/Sony BMG help her out, after all the money she made for them.

  • poor thing ailing health she hadda couple of strokes and will downing has a form of muscular distrophy??? i love this womans voice

  • This is such an AWESOME live performance.

  • i have audio of her and will downing singing this as a duet...

  • gorgeous...one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers..

  • I saw her a few days ago, she is doing well. she is a truly kind soul.

  • @DMT1221 you posted this a ayear ago..so is she still performing and how old is she..is she married have kids..grandkids

  • @DMT1221 After a couple of strokes, kindness will appear from the most hardened of hearts.

  • Comment removed

  • I hope Angela has a miraculous recovery. God speed.

  • this is my first time seeing her. Growing up, I always wondered what the woman looked like with such a beautiful, beautiful voice. The woman and voice are very entrancing and moving.

  • Angie is just awesome, she has always been my number 1.

  • I saw Angela Bofill at S.O.B.'s and the World Trade Center when they used to have shows there. those were the days!!

she was playing the drums and different instruments sooo talented.

  • Wow, I didn't know she could do all of that! I would really like to see that on here.

  • If only you had the rest of the video. That was beautiful though. Love her and her music. Thanks!

  • This is GREAT! She scats with such ease..you would never know it was a saxophone part that she was scatting that was in the original version! True Vocalist Indeed!!

  • what a gorgeous woman.

  • All man thanks for posting this gem.

  • THIS IS SO VERY SPECIAL....THANK YOU

  • Hey, what can i say? Anything Angela Bofill has done is all good by me. Thanks for Posting!

  • PhiLLLY Cheese...you know DICK about music....you have the I.Q. of a pencil eraser....Angie Bofill is one of the greatest female vocalist of all time...you birdbrain.

  • funny of you to say when you dont even know what kinda of music I like, angela bofill and phyllis hyman are my favorite singers so shut the hell up

  • mine too with some others but they are at the top of the list!!!

  • That was funny....lol

  • ba day ya day ya LMAO at 1:53

  • LORD look at how she raised her eyebrows at 00:12 like she was saying in her head what the hell you want lol

  • love this song never have seen this live version before and its so awesome thanks for posting

  • This song moves me...I had never seen her sing live or any video until just now. What a unique, rich, and wonderful voice!

  • Exquisite talent, a gift from God! I pray Angie if you are reading this you know how special you are to God! I speak health, blessings & peace to your life.

  • How could anyone not absolutely love that voice. Thanks for the music Ms. Bofill

  • this song gives me goosebumps.

  • Please let us not diss Will Downing. Angie B's original version stands on its own. Will's stands on its own. If Will Downing had not covered "I Try," just think of all the younguns among us who might not have sought out Angie Bofill's original. Will's rendition brings out a different (not better, not worse) expression of romantic pain. Both versions are beautifully sung and deeply touching. ...I hope to find out if she is doing OK these days, healthwise. That goes for Will, too.

  • I like both. Now Will's is old school too!

  • This is a stand-out performance. All the over-paid divas out there singing today couldn't carry Angela Bofill's microphone case!

  • Angie had two strokes and the last one was in 2007. The sad thing is that she didn't have any health insurance, but fans have helped to pull her through. Currently she is recouping in a nursing home because the last stroke was massive. She had to learn to speak and walk again. She is doing a lot better now and should be released soon. She is not ready to sing, but developing her vocals again. I will continue to pray for her....

  • classic footage. bofill's voice is unbelievable! this is one of my favorite songs ever. i was just a toddler when it came out, but i still get in the bathroom and sing it like nobody's business! i guess that;s just the power of real soul music.

  • A+++++

  • Why is she Artistically and Proverbially Reading My Cards right now....20 years after she has perfomed this?!?!?!?!?!?

  • didnt she have a heart attack or stroke recently?

  • she had a stroke a few years ago, don't know her current status

  • I heard about that stroke but i,m hoping and praying to the Lord that she,s fully recovered because we all know how serious strokes are but God is a God of miracles.Just hope thats she will come back and continue to make good music.Angela the world out there including myself miss you so much.

  • this song is the best!

  • OMG i love this song i remember first hearing it when i was 8-9 yrs old, and it stuck with me since then Angie is definitly one of the best

  • Has anyone been able to get the live version with Will Downing. Where was it recorded? And how do I get it. WHUR In Washington DC plays it but I cant find it to purchase. When you hear it, you will flip. Its like nothing you will ever hear!

  • Let me make this clear: nothing-nothing -NOTHING will ever beat the original version of this song! Will Downing can't compare.

  • Let me state that this woman was and will always be a true star in NYC. When you have artist in hip hop and r&B and pop respect you then you are truly a legend. Angie is our Blatino sister straight from the BX (as we say in NY) One of the first to make it during the struggles off disco to hip hop and when her record came on everyone listened. The first Jennifer Lopez!!!!!!!!!!

  • The true definition of "BEAUTIFUL".

  • she is my favorite singer. i hope she gets better soon. her songs are perfect.

  • she's from a latin nation but she would be called a afro-latino or black.

  • This is one of my favorites along with " Tonight I Give In"

  • i love her jesters at the beginning before she starts to sing. such a unique voice - her phrasing and rounded tones...so young why cant she just remain young and beautiful. some things should just be immortal.

  • she's soulful but don't forget she's a latina as well.

  • she is the most underrated singer in the history of music... and yes im that serious.

  • I remember seeing her at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT in 1984. She tore the place down, she got a standing ovation after every cut. The entire place was loving her that evening.

  • nice soulful voice ....

  • great song sung by a beautiful woman

  • without doubt, one of the most heart wrenching, beautiful songs ever written.

  • Myac0706 what does a 100% Puerto Rican and a 100% Cuban mean exactly? LOL) I guess you are implying that Angela Lopez, I meant Bofill is a white Spanyard? Get real! You and I both know why she is so soulful right? Look at her features.

  • I just read that her mother is 100% puerto rican and father 100% cuban. She is the most soulful latin woman ever!

  • Angela was a stunner - both vocally and physically!!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Loved Angela!

  • you'd better scat girl....

  • pittsburgh ,pa. back in the day...anyone else remember seeing her turn the place out with this tune? i think it was at the syria mosque in oakland...remember she was rappin' midway thru the song then when she broke back into singing...she had evryone on their feet screamin'..was one of the best performances of a song i evr saw...and i'm over 50...she always has my respect after that day!!

  • angela bofill looked absolutely stunning and her voice was mesmorizing lovely all around

  • What a total package she was. I've never seen anyone with a stage presence like hers. So sexy. Beautiful, and super talented. I wish time could have stood still for her.

  • jdfodio..hi! m also a fan of hers..but snce ur there in the US, do u have a means to contact ophra or maybe her show, whatever..u knw jus to inform , we'l nevr knw ophra might help! God Bless!

  • She's killing this song - I LOVE IT!!!

  • this song is the shit

  • she is so beautiful and i love this song. man........

  • She had two massive strokes (on 1/10/06 and 7/10/07), leaving her paralyzed and in a convalescent home in the Bay Area, CA. She doesn't have medical insurance. If you're a fan of Angela's, please contribute to her medical bills through her website. (check her wikipedia page)

  • Which Convalescent Home in the Bay Area??/

  • I'm not sure, but I live in the Bay Area and I heard this on the radio station (and then checked wikipedia). It's so sad. She's such a beautiful, talented lady.

  • She reminds me of Vanessa Williams during her Miss America days - minus the blue eyes. I have her greatest hits cd.

  • she does remind me of her too

  • These new kids can't touch her. Everyone today wants to out do Beyonce, Angela didn't try to be Chaka, Patti, Natalie, Aretha, Donna Summer, Roberta, she was simply Angela Bofill. Awwsome and beautifully talented. Stay strong Angie and you are in my prayers.

  • Dayum!!!, she is absolutely mind blowing gorgeous!!!!

  • i remember her songs were played quite a bit on new york disco station 92.3 back in 1978-79 those were the days!!!! i miss em much

  • Wow! She doesn't scat like that on the album version! How cool is that! I had a huge crush on her back in the early 80s. Awesome combination of beauty and talent.

  • she is so great, I wish this wasn't cut off
