  • this is great

im having my first dj set soon and i will be playing dnb and dubstep

altough im very nervous about it

because i dont have any wquipment home accept the laptop and ultramixer 3

on the night of the mixing i they will give me the headphones and mixer

i will try to follow these stept with hi hats

but that ultramixer doesent have that tap button like on the turntables so im guessing it will be a hard work

  • Awesome chosen song ))

  • Fugees tune is Ready or not dj hype i think

  • Comment removed

  • make shirt the basse is all over the place :D

  • ur fucking good!

  • dirty oldschool tracks too

  • Well done, good advice

  • "Fugees or not - Hype"

  • Great tutorial. And I love his enthusiastic style. This geezer would've made a top-notch music teacher.

  • wired.

  • your tutorials are sick and the mix is by dj zinc!!

  • Swear thats King Of The Beats?

  • He keeps saying hi-hat when he means snare lol...

  • @hairy0pothead he nails it though and gets a thumbs up from me.

  • oiii mate its the dj hype version... on the overdrive lp

  • @jayroxadio If you want the best ones, get hd800 from sennheiser. They're the most expencive and best phones so far.

  • Classic tunes there. Nice tutorial.

  • ready or not, dj hype version?

  • the ready or not remix is by dj hype

  • yes man quality tunes and mix lol

  • boom ta chetta ta boom ta chetta ta

  • i just wanna know... why does a guy who seems to be busy with music a LOT, only have 240p movies? doesnt seem logical cause somehow if you get 720p it also sounds more clear...

  • @MrHmm500 Loool why you soo concerned bout that??

  • @MrHmm500 Music equpiment is expensive, cameras are also, what would you preffer, good music, or good quality videos? :P

  • @MrHmm500 also bro, this vid is quite old, for the time this is like average quality, and anyways, is it reeaaalllyy a problem though? its just a little bit of quality

  • Aphrodite + Zinc

  • dj zinc mix of ready or not...

  • Thank you Steve Buscemi!

  • A very nice Practical!

    thx

  • When I mix drum and bass, when I'm preparing the mix, I prefer to cue up at the start of a bar, loop it, and keep cueing back to the start of the loops when I go to far out of time. Whilst I'm doing that I adjust the BPM untill it sits, so basically, I beat match drum and bass to the on beat kick, and ignore the staggered kick. I'm self taught except for a scarce few tips from mates, so is there any reason to use the snare over beat matching to the bar, or does it just come down to personal pref

  • @DnBNemo I'm not an expert DJ or anything but as long as mix sounds fine, I can't see any possible reason you would need to learn anything different. It's just easy to use the snares, cause they stand out more and aren't usually very syncopated.

  • @DnBNemo try that on vinyl decks

  • @legaliseme thats how i mix on vinyl, i just get it roughly in by ear then pull it back, and go again untill it sits. I have trouble hearing/paying attention to the snare, but that might mean I could do with some headphones that have less bass and a bit more of a boost in the mid range?

  • Fugees or Not was by Zinc but the original white label did not state this for copyright reasons. Zinc has since said that Hype helped program the bassline in the studio so you are all correct!!!! From memory only 500 were originally pressed (ignoring the repress) and it was difficult to get hold of this tune at the time unless you lived in tha city!

True 'dubplates' were acetate and only lasted 50 plays! They were used to gauge crowd reaction prior to producing a final mixdown.

  • I have 2 of the Ready or Not remix copies on vinyl if anyone is interested…

  • Hi Hat is not the same as Snare. lol

  • haha doin the cha cha cha...lmao twat

  • You make it look so easy haha great vid!

  • usually you'd mix it on the kick drum any way other wise you wont be on the right bar for the drop and you get savage clash when it does

  • THE TWO RECORDS WERE MADE AND REMIXED BY THE SAME PERSON MATE!!!

  • Thank alot for this. You're excellent. Thanks very much!

  • How the fuck do u do this?

    that was seamless!!! <333.

  • doo da cha tu tah, doo da cha tu tah

  • ready or not remix is by dj zinc I remember :D great turtorial :)

  • @dubloads yo that ready or not track is remixed my dj hype. my friend has the dub plate

  • @corbinseymour1 No it's not!!!!! that dude on youtube said it was dj hype but actualy it was from dj zinc! Do some research first! On dj zinc's website you can find this: He went on to produce some of the scene’s biggest anthems, most notably ‘Super Sharp Shooter’ and the remix of the Fugees’ ‘Ready Or Not’ – both of which still devastate dancefloors to this day!

  • @dubloads yo i am not even talking about the guy on your tube i am talking about my friends record collection.

  • @corbinseymour1 it isnt a dubplate u moron

  • @corbinseymour1 dj zinc matee

  • I know this sounds rediculous, but my problem is not beat-mtaching once there in time, but im shit at knowing wat two speeds to have them at, most of my time mixing is spent trying to get the two to even go together, ideas????

  • yeah its important to use the right term on the individual instruments, what he is meaning is the snare, the beat of dnb goes: kick snare, kick snare, and hihats go all the time, this is ofcourse a basic explanation of the dnb style. and the snare should match when beatmixing 2 track or it will only be a mess :P but nice video anyway :)

  • lol.Using a Earphone as a Microphone ..Cant get any more hardcore than that!

  • wut r da sons playin ?

  • Robert Carlyle

  • Headphones as a Mic, now that's practicing and enjoying GONE GANGSTER!

  • @mcsCUBAd Hahah amazing!

  • dont u mean snaer drum lol

  • how many people listen to both tracks in the headphones when beatmatching? do any pros do it like this?

  • @badboyryanw i do, aint a pro tho lol. just how you learn init, i do all matchin n eqin in the headphones.

  • @RaynaDJ :) tbh i listen to one track to beatmatch then listen to both tracks during the mix no matter what channel is playing..i duno why.....and also a great tip is that the 2nd beat of a bar of dnb is the best beat to listen for while beatmatching..

  • @badboyryanw i use the kicks tbh, just how you learn tho init.

  • @RaynaDJ yeah innit...i still find genres like dubstep 10 times easier than dnb..cos with dubstep you usually have a nice beat on the 1st and 3rd beat of a bar... :)

  • Boo da jeppa da

  • i think its much easier to find the snare in each track, cos its regular in every style of music you mention. hi hats are all over the place, like the kick drums. x

  • Are you talking into your headphones!? That's mad!

  • The Read Or Not remix is by DJ Zinc for anyone wondering

  • @RuskyyMedia its dj hype...hahah

  • @badboyryanw no. its dj zinc...eeeediot

  • @RuskyyMedia well its both but this particular mix is dj hype..i have the vinyl but its fuked

  • which is the left vinyl? any names?^^

  • @Oxix999 Aphrodite - Listen to the Rhythm Flow

  • If you use this technique along with killing the bass in a song if the bass is clashing then it works wonders. Has improved my mixing ten fold!

  • nice tutorial mate

  • ive been told thats the Dj hype remix. but ive also been told its the og zinc remix. but it is a stomper and a half

  • i can't find that aphrodite track on vinyl?!

  • probably all been said before but ... the Fugees track is most likely DJ Zinc's Fugees or Not Mix & surely you mean the snare not the hi-hat.

  • nice mix!

  • what r u doing with the pitch button all the time?

  • @Twojamamamapyte

He's riding the pitch. A good technique for when on a bid rig.

  • sycing the tempo of the other LP.. By shifting the pitch- up and down you can match tempo buddy.. Pitch up makes it go faster - pitch down goes slower..

  • The bass is all over the place!!! :D

  • 4:20 xD

  • Very helpful, I should marry you!

  • omg ure using headphone as a microphone? :)

  • microphone is maybe in the headphones :D

  • actually you can record using only the headphones, it's not as comfortable as using the mic but it's possible :)

  • @fixtwix aslongas they are dynamc headphones plug them into the microphone input and sing your heart out!

  • cool !!! respect

  • wow great vid.... come to Austria and teach it me live :)

  • Yoo this video is great .. it helped me a lot.. till now i was listening only to the first beat on the start of the sequence :) .. yo thx

  • hype hype hype

  • @grandmasterfo HYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE

  • dj hype

  • its DJ zinc remix

  • DJ ZINC REMIX!

  • does the hi-hat sound hold onto beats 2 and 4? i think i'm getting what you are saying

  • he means the snare I think ... snare on 2 and 4 on most dnb tracks therefore us that instead of the the kick which is never on just 1 and 3

  • yes you got it mate ..but the hihat version is difficult imo ..almost every dnb track has a kick on the 1 a snare on the 2 the next kick is on 3,5 and the 2nd snare on the 4 ..with that knowledge dnb is almost like house to me ;)

    hope i could help

  • pretty helpful.

ive been djing hard trance for like 3 years now.

ive been wanting to get into dnb.

    this helped alot

i never knew how to do it since like you said i was always used to the 4 kicks in a row.

  • how to play breakcore ? ;)

  • lol 5* foor that comment XD

  • good stuff!

  • nice tutorial but the best way to learn is just by yourself. its important to develop your own technique and approach to mixing. might seem impossible at first and be stressful but, like learning to drive, its hard but anyone can do it

  • DJ ZINC 97 REMIX u terd

  • sounds more like Hypes remix to me

as far as my knolage extends Zinc has only done one remix wich was in 03. i may be wrong though

  • great tutorial

    well done

  • thats some smooth mixing man, i think im guna have a try

  • great stuff man will try and mix myself lol

  • tune!!!

  • when he says he's listening to the hi hat does he mean the snare? It's just that everytime he moves his hand/nods his head to show the beat he's listening to it seems to be on beats 2 and 4 which are surely dominated by the snare. Great tutorial anyway though, they're all great

  • Yes he mean's the snare.

  • you are king !!

  • Just curious, but what is he using as a mic? Looks like headphones..

  • You can plug your heaphones into the mic input and use them as one

  • Yeah, you can do, its just not very healthy for headphones or inputs.

  • was the dj zinc remix 2003. not dj hype

  • nope hype

  • ' and its a bit of a stomper ' ahahaha 5* man :P

  • you are a SICK dj man.. keep it up!! 5/5

  • you forgot to turn the camera off at the end.

  • keep in mind that there are some tunes that have the 2nd snare placed 2/16 earlier than the usual tunes. most stuff from dom & roland for example are like that. but you still mix them using the first snare on the meter as a guide.

  • DJ hype the man from brum

  • yes mix on the snare..it's just that the hat and snare hit simultaneously at times. i think that is where it can be confusing, but USE YOUR EAR and you will hear the very distinct HIT to mix on

  • i was just thinking, its the snare he is queing on, the hi hat is all over the place, i usually mix by the snare and many other people, GREAT MIX BTW!!

  • great mix! keep it up

  • using your head phone as a mic cool. you are marking the 2 and 4 .

  • your clipping on your mixer when your speaking!!! not good :P good video though

  • Surely he means the snare rather than the hihat? Other than that, nice tutorial.

  • if you listen to that aphrodite song, it is the high hat...

  • you should re record this with a microphone ;-)

  • Your not the best mixer in the world? ive heard some of your other mixers and they arnt amazin but they are quality - but that was an amazin mix by my opinion give yourself a pat on the back

  • really helpfull mate cheers, and the mix of ready or not you got there is by dj hype

  • its zinc, hype DID do a mix, buts thats not it

  • Name of the track 1:37 PLEASE!!

  • He said the name of the song at 0:52 is "Listen to the Rhythm" by DJ Aphrodite

  • Might wanna lift the needle off that Aphrodite record before it wears away.

  • big chunes scene

  • dj zinccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc bled hype may have done a version but the original is zinc

  • boom ciky cee boom boom cee... this is drum and bass

  • Cool

  • what about mixing breaks? like MACC, PARADOX, SEBA, FRACTURE AND NEPTUNE, FANU..that style of music?

  • I been trying to mix some fanu and that shit is hard

  • That's about idk 90 or so BPM, or so, and you could maybe mix it with hip hop or double time with drum and bass.

but I think the same thing as for drum and bass, use the snare, as in the 2nd and 4th beat

  • Comment removed

  • hi! i definately like THIS SOUND !!! i play funky drums but i dont mix drum n base (but i love to hear it..) specially the snare drum and the deep base of the fugees mix are great.. could you suggest some stuff with this sound?? or maybe some things you have mixed or you like to listen to... i ask you because i think we have common flavor of sound.. greetings Tom

  • whats the artist and track name of the 1st song?? i couldnt quite understand it lol thanks guys

  • I think what you were talking about is to listen to the snare not the high hat...i may be mistaken, but what you were pointing out to sounded like where the snare usually comes in in drum n bass...its just coincidentally the track on the left's snare sounds a lot like a hi-hat...

  • JUMP UP!!!

  • i would like to know the name of the second tracks the fujis or wtv he says i dont understand xD

    thanks

  • fuggees (old music group! get some culture :P)

    ready or not

it's a dnb remix so search for it :)

  • thank you =)

    stay cool!

  • remix is from dj zinc-ready or not

  • Comment removed

  • no inot dj hype its zinc... no idea why hype gets credit for it?

Also how can u not know who the fugees are :S

  • that was sick, maybe im biased as i like dnb but that sounded great, thx for tips :)

  • what in esscence we have here is a very talentless genre of music...

  • Well, I listen to the kick/bassdrum to start the other deck, and then to pitch and beatmix i listen to the snare

  • with the highhat hit one the first track you probably ment the snare snippet :P the fugees track is the one with the hat going ^^

  • sound a bit stupid when you beatbox

  • haha! my head out of my arse? chill out i was only teasin and maybe he IS a good DJ FOR A KIDS CHAV PARTY! and plus you dont know me or how long ive had decks for ....um let me put my head back up my arse just to piss you off .......since 1991 mofo ;P

  • thanks. well done

  • i think the tunes r pretty nice. what are the names?

good tutorial though but sometimes ure wasting time by saying kinda useless things or the beatboxing, sounds bit harsh but dont take me wrong, for the rest its good ;)
