  • Love how's there's no map, no clues as to where should go, you get an item, no explanation as to what it does haha. Sure beats the 20min tutorial games give you now every hour...i really miss using my brain Nintendo!

  • @bman8206 yeah,very cool :P

  • Another fun thing to try is to beat the game in under one hour without going to Kraid's Lair. Takes a little longer, but it's not to hard.

  • I still remember

  • I will remember this game

  • I remember this was the first game that I ever finished. Favourite game ever made.

  • justin bailey

  • This video made me try again.

    and i failed... again.

  • You use "amateur" like you suck at this.

  • well plumber steve this video game topic not games topix and for inidity yes he should and as for the origins of gaming THE FIRST game on home console ever to be released was space invaders but it floped do to nobody understood the mechanics of home videogames so pong was created to help ppl understand the mechanics of how to play games on a home console and after that space invaders became popular and spread like wildfire in a dead forest ; Im 27 and tes i was born after atari but i love it

  • 5:46 Is this the normal way to get there?

  • Metroid.. My first game and still my favorite. I started playing at age six, and Samus was my hero. Looking back now, I love the new games, however, the original will always be my favorite. It started it all. I am 21 years old now, and I still love Samus Aran and this entire series. I may grow old, but to me, Metroid will NEVER get old. <3

  • @InfinityToOmega

I agree with you man! I enjoy the new games and all they have to give us gamers. However the video games had to start some place. I'am 30 now and remember Atari, Intelevision. Any one who does not like Samus is not a true gamer.

  • @InfinityToOmega i completely agree with u im 22 and i started my first metroid game and i never forgot it

  • I love the sound the doors make. BOOP BOOP!

  • 8:20 jesus who the hell know's that lol.

  • This remains one of my all time favorite games. My proudest achievement was getting the speed ending to see the revealed Samus. Thank you Nintendo Power maps.

  • Damn, I used to have draw my own maps...before the internet people.

  • ehhh kids these days don't even know what it was like not having megapixels and dubbly surround...why, back when I was a youngster, we had games like 'kick the can' and 'hit the loop with a stick'. THOSE were games. this stuff is just child's play...so to speak...

  • i remember the good old days with classics like super smash brothers melee. games these days are just bad. SSBM was the best!! That's ware today's video games got thare start

  • @plumbersteve Wow... Really??? Ever heard of a game called Super Mario Bros.? Cuz I'm pretty sure that's where today's games got their start...

  • @plumbersteve Recheck your game history.

  • how do you know where to go?! i cant figure any of it out?!

  • anyone remember that the character in this is a girl.

  • @Dan32280 and?? metroid games are my favorite!!!

  • I am so glad that they brought these games back on the wii. I could never play any all the way through without my new giving up on me lol

  • as kid this was so epic, still is.

  • just got this for the nintendo 3ds its polished and sounds good but i changed the graphics back to classic this is my first time playing it i never owned it on nes when i was a kid looking forward to playing it finally.

  • @StarsAndStraps909 They have the original 1986 Metroid game on the 3DS virtual console?

  • @cooldude8912 yes well actually as a "reward" for purchasing the 3ds and going into the marketplace prior to i think...August 31st before midnight you were labeled as an ambassador and given 10 free nes games which looked a little toned up and 10 free GBA games, the GBA games wont be given till close to the end of the year. but the nes games given were..... zelda 1 and 2, metroid, wrecking crew, ice climbers, super mario bros, yoshi, champion golf, balloon fight, dk jr.

  • @StarsAndStraps909 Thats awesome is it free?

  • @cooldude8912

it WAS free, if you were an owner of a 3ds PRIOR to AUGUST 30th.... if im not mistaken it was only given to people who owned a 3ds before that date, its def remade cause its very crisp and clean

  • Just beat it for the first time on my 3DS! Now I just wish that I gave it more of a shot when I was a kid.

  • @robertsfunny1995 Back then, gamers weren't used to the idea of having to go left. It was a way to quickly train the gamer in the concept of exploration. They would naturally go right only to have their path blocked by a low hanging wall. They would have to turn back and, upon a little exploration, they would be given the very ability needed to overcome this obstacle. This little exercise prepared the gamer for the type of exploration based gameplay that was in store for them.

  • If they're going to put that sphere at 0:17 so close to the beginning, why don't they just start you off with it?

  • got this to the 3ds 2 minutes ago :D

  • Great job but this run is obviously fake, nearly ten minutes and not a single screen flash, or any fuzzy dots in sight. (The people that played this on nes know what im talking about and will get the joke, to everyone else just disregard).

  • im gonna download this game in my 3ds for free very soon! :)

  • I could not wait to come home from school to play this game. I think it took me a month to beat this game, cool to see this again.

  • I'm sitting here with some guy named Tanner doesn't even know wtf Metroid is, so I came here!

    ( .\)(/. )

  • /watch?v=ftAyfWKNC7Y <--------- Glow in the dark Metroid Painting! Very Trippy!!!

  • @R255metroidfan zero mission is a remake.

  • i love metroid so much. believe it or not, it is same alien movie

    Metroid = Alien

    Metroid 2 = Aliens

    Super Metroid = Alien 3

    Metroid Fusion = Alien resurrection

yes im biggest metroid & alien fan

  • super fun lovit

  • epic nostalgia

  • This is a legit speed run, right? no tool assisting?

  • August 6th 2011. Happy 25th Birthday to Metroid.

  • Happy 25th anniversary for metroid

  • Didn't you felt dirty the moment you had find out that samus was a girl.. and that you played a game staring a girl? XD

  • i remember one summer morning. The lazy days of my 80's life. I went over to my cousin's house to play "my" metroid game that my mom bought for me. First word's out of his mouth was " It's a girl!!". His all nighter ruined the surprise for me....*nerd boy crying inside*

  • I was pissed off that my mom beat this b4 I did. Bad thing is it was a school night when she finished it and woke me up at after mid night too brag about it. And was the only game she ever finished.

  • whats the name of the theme thats playing in this game i like it?

  • i could watch this for hours even though i just no its an old ass video game

  • Look at you go, man. You weren't kidding when you said "speed run". :D

    Awesome videos!

  • Someone actually said this was the worst Metroid? LOL!!! Jesus Christ, this is what Metroid is all about. This being the best one and the second Super Metroid. Kids /sigh

  • My favorite thing about this game is still and will always be the pitter patter of Samus feet.

  • I remember using "justin bailey" to log on and you get special weapons when you start

  • im only 12 and this is the 2nd metroid game Ive ever played 1st was Metroid prime hunters

  • @tyrese8001 cool story, bro...

  • I freakin loved this game

  • That dude didnt put the entire time line. Yes, the 1st metroid will always be the best!

  • i've been watchin alot of speed runs and i just think back as a kid that you get so caught up on tryna kill everything on the screen u frustrate yourself.

  • this game is rly hard to play. we had our NES at 1994, i was 6 in this time, and that was a rly great time. i would not like to miss this in my life. phantastic game memorys

  • While I think that Super Metroid is the best, there is no denying the accomplishments made in the original. I was probably 8 or 9 when this game came out and was pretty lost at first, but as kids do...my friends and I would take turns swapping the controller around until the game was beat. For it's time, it was definately one of the best games ever made. To this day it still ranks in the top 50.

  • @VideogameShit WoW!! thats what my friends and i did back in the day!!!! i think we all took turns passing it around no matter where we were

  • Very nice job.

  • This is obviously tool-assisted. You can see that 4:32 can only be done on an emulator.

  • Did anyone else notice that the music that plays when you first spawn is almost identical to the contra title theme?

  • I didn't see when you got the bombs?? how'd you start off with them?

  • What effin kid who bought this game when it came out knew were to go from the very beginning??!!!

  • @michelrpg well yeah i know when i saw the Super Mario bros. movie i didnt play mario for 2 years, but take the Final Fantasy movies i havent seen them but i saw some reviews before i posted this comment and ppl say those movies are fairly good and just think of the awesomnes of Metroid Prime movie

  • best game on a console ever to be made, in its time no game came even close.

  • I Like how the morph ball is basically saying "Fuck you, go left bitch" to most players, because we almost always go right in platformers.

    Dick move nintendo.

    Dick move.

  • thumbs up if u think Nintendo should make movies about Metroid and extend the storyline aswell, 4 movies with extended story line would be great!

  • @joujou264 yeah, lets rape more childhood joys, since we all know videogame-based movies are ALWAYS good....

  • @michelrpg Not all game turned into movies were bad... like resedent evil, that was sweet.

  • @darkmankill1 There were also Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter...

    is it worth the risk?

  • @michelrpg well, seeing how good of a movie metroid other m was, id say yea.

  • Metroid other m sucks!! this is a real game! especially for the cool songs

  • @ferranask8 Metroid Other M is a real game and it doesn't suck it just did some very none Metroid things its still an overall great game just not a great metroid game.

  • I was a kid when I played this with my father and brother the first time. This and Zelda ocarina of time is the games of my childhood

  • Thank God we have evolved from this!

  • This game was the bomb back in the day. No other game like it at the time when it came out.

  • Can't wait to get this.I'm so sick of fps games.

  • @lickmychicken09

First of all, it's a robot suit.

Second, it's a girl, which you find out if you have the patience to play this game.

Third, Halo is better than Call of Duty.

Fourth, This was made in 1986, and was awesome for its time so that's your "excuse".

Fifth, the plot can be found on wikipedia

Sixth, it's an arm cannon, not a pistol.

Metroid is the BEST GAME EVER, but Call of duty has no plot, just a guy with a gun shooting people sooo gay

  • @microsoft115 Please tell me you're joking! Nobody can be THAT dumb to not understand that Halo is better than Call of Duty AND think a gay game like COD is better than Metroid! xDD

  • @superluigi132 It's called sarcasm, I was copying what you were saying. And you were probably joking too, since if you take a look at what you just wrote, you're saying Call of Duty is gay and that Halo is better. I mean Call of Duty is unoriginal in my perspective, and just because it had the best sales, doesn't mean it's good. I mean, it's a first-person shooter. It's been done (literally) hundreds of times. All the "World War I I" stuff they paint over to make it look creative is crap.

  • @microsoft115 Sorry, i thought you were lickmychicken09, the ass who posted that comment.. XD

  • @microsoft115 I was indeed using sarcasm. Sometimes there are people that are simply.. well... dumb.

  • That just took me way back. Great video. I love that game.

  • I have to admit when I first played Metroid back in 1988 (as a 12 yr old), I wasn't in any way inspired. It was only about 3 years later when I came back to it, looking past the repetitive graphics and plinky sounds that I came to understand the whole 'freedom to explore' aspect and the fact it was brilliantly (if annoyingly) designed.

I should also point out I bought the game off a friend who had lost the instructions, so had no clue what the idea of the game was that first time of playing.

  • @TheYorkMan

I myself thought the graphics and sounds were just fine. :)

  • one hell of a game to master

  • 8:21 mind blown

  • Thank you for this spiceninja! This time run is really amazing and will help me a lot. This game is one of my favorites and really brings me back to being a kid you know.

  • i have played and beaten all the metroid games except for return of samus.

  • lolhow hilarious would it be if the hit markers on COD sounded like the ones here? haha

  • This is the timeline for metriod:

    Metroid

    Metroid Prime

    Metroid Prime Hunters

    Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

    Metroid 2: Return of Samus

    Super Metroid

    Metroid: Other M

  • @Abobification metroid fusion?

  • @Abobification i thought super metroid came after metroid

  • @Abobification your timeline is correct, but you forgot to add Metroid Fusion after Metroid: Other M

  • @Abobification and at the end.... METROID FUSION!

  • @CrASYmUZIk oops, sorry forgot to add fusion.

  • @Abobification What about metroid fusion D: ?!

  • @Abobification you forgot the gba games

  • 8:26 WTF. How are you meant to know about that!?

  • @phkontrol LOL who didnt know about that?

  • AHAHAHAHAH

  • lol im a nub i still have this game on NES XD

  • I used this video for research.

I just finished publishing my novelization of the Manga! Everything you will need to know about Samus is in my new book. Look for it on "blurb dot kahm!"

    Six bucks!

  • @gnortznitz SPAM.

  • @catseatingclouds Wrong again, idiot. I wrote the comment by hand and typed and published a 51,000 word novel, having used this video as research. I'm selling the book at cost and making no profit. There is no way the preceding message could be considered spam.

  • @gnortznitz what? sorry, i don't speak spambot.

  • @gnortznitz Wow..guy...honestly.....speechless....That was a real cool story.....now why dont you take your novel get some KY on it and shove it up your azz now :)

  • Anyone know what that beginning medley is called?

  • great game. love the metroid prime games super metroid and other m

  • Classic. This & Super Metroid are the good stuff:>

  • How long would it take the average gamer to beat this ? Im thinking about playing it for the first time, i just re-beat Super Metroid in 4hrs 20 mins with 72%

  • I managed to beat this on the GBA (the Zero Mission unlockable) without any aid from guides or maps. But it sure hell took me forever...

  • And to the kids saying this was the "worst" metroid, you're out of your freakin' heads. This is METROID FOOLS. All others are spinoffs. If you want the real metroid, this is it.

Youngsters....with their fancy motion controllers and pokemon crap...you'll never know how awesome it was to be playing a video game during the dawn of the gaming era, especially this game which helped define a generation.

  • @TheClassicalSauce Metroid is a great game and it did start the series, but Super Metroid is a spinoff? It takes Metroid's formula and perfects it. Perfect game in all aspects.

  • @TheClassicalSauce agreed..i "gave up" on metroid when they turned it in to a call of duty first person view kind of game...my opinion really killed the game for me...P.s. calling kids online doesn't really help your story much :(

  • @TheClassicalSauce Ok calm down oldster.

  • @TheClassicalSauce I was a kid when this NES version came out... this was the worst Metroid. Unacceptably hard, absurdly confusing and no explanation of what anything was or why dragons and a giant brain were working together. It gets a pass because it was an NES game, so it can't be called terrible, but the sequel on the SNES was certainly better.

  • @TheClassicalSauce i could't agree more. i may be a "young person" but since i was three i was playing games on my n64 and snes( my nes stopped working). These games not were but ARE the best.

  • @TheClassicalSauce pokemon is lame

  • @TheClassicalSauce I agree with you, although I am fan of pokemon (as my name suggests). Those games were not made to be beaten easily; you needed skill, memory... and patience, because those games were hard and you have to start over when you screwed up (I talk here of Mario Lost Levels, Metroid, Adventure of Link and Castlevania)

Retro Games are the best games for lenght and challenge they offer, in my opinion. And those who say that I am wrong, then it is your point of view, don't bash me.

  • @TheClassicalSauce I'm from the generation of motion controls and all that other stupid crap, and I completely agree with you. I'll gladly take Super Metroid over Metroid: Other M any day.

  • @TheClassicalSauce I'm 11, and even I agree with you. The originals are always the best.

  • @gunteen8 same people dont think children can apritiate classics as much as we do

  • @supermarioshock Agreed.

  • @gunteen8 mm hmm

  • @supermarioshock i totally agree with u!

  • @TheBluemaui YEAH! i played DK and mario on the wii VC and when i get my gamecube coontroller i will b playing this and mario 64!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheClassicalSauce I'm a "youngster", yet I fully understand the fun of playing these old games. Heck I'm probably spending more time on a game like this than, say the XBox 360. Too bad I suck at Metroid though...

  • @TheClassicalSauce metroid 2 and super metroid arent spinoffs. even in super metroid during the title screen it says metroid 3 so its in the main series.

  • @TheClassicalSauce and to the twats who say kids dont appreciate old gaming that defined the future of gaming fuck you , im 13 i have a nes i love old stuff and so does a lot of my friends , so stop being so judgemental you stupid tarde

  • @mushroomhead104 hes just cranky that modern gaming is filled with shit and the good ol' days are completely gone

  • @mushroomhead104 I completely agree, some people seem to think that we can't appreciate classic gaming just because we didn't grow up during that particular generation, fuck that, age doesn't mean a thing, sure there are a lot of younger kids nowadays that can't appreciate classic gaming, but that's their loss, it's not like all kids nowadays can't appreciate classic gaming, because that's simply not true. Some people just make assumptions based on stereotypes that aren't true, so, fuck them.

  • @mushroomhead104

tarde? Also, it's sad that a 13 year old is using words like "twat" and "fuck". Please don't use those. It doesn't make you any more sophisticated or mature. It's rather immature actually. Otherwise, I agree us old folk do often mistakenly look down on younger people.

  • @zrchrn well.. im fifteen and ur not the boss of anyone soooo...

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!

  • @troyforce1 I never told you what to do. I said "please don't". Which is a kind request. :-)

  • @mushroomhead104 Welcome to the club. I can proudly boast I have never played Halo or Call of Duty and am under the age of 18.

  • @mushroomhead104 AMEN!

  • @TheClassicalSauce It wasn't the worst, but also wasnt the best. Super Metroid is

  • @TheClassicalSauce Yeah no kidding - I have a couple of 8-year old nephews who thought old video games must be too easy and the graphics too primitive for "more sophisticated" gamers like them to enjoy. I got them to try Mega Man, Castlevania, and Contra. When they played Mega Man and got their asses handed to them they bitched that there was no way to save the game. They cringed at the thought of passwords because that was too much effort. Now old games suck for being "too hard" XD schmucks.

  • @Suolperos LOL!

  • @TheClassicalSauce Although I will grant they're only 8 and new to gaming in general. It's just amazing to me how quickly their expectations solidified into the modern schema. There are some tykes out there who can haul ass and then some on the classics. One cousin of mine, 14 years old, can beat Contra in one sitting, all by himself, without even using the Konami code. I still find that pretty goddamn impressive. I can't beat Contra NOW without using the Konami code :P

    ESPECIALLY not by myself!

  • @TheClassicalSauce Ah. Im a kid and i love this game, i just cant beat this one to save my life...

  • @forrest0no Yea the only NES game I can beat is Kirby's Adventure and even that is kinda hard XD

  • Only beat this when I was a kid once. So hard...

  • This one was ok, I guess. But I think this was the worst Metroid second to Other M.

  • Crud. I never knew there were so many secrets in Metroid. Wish I'd of known about them when I was playing all those years ago.

  • skillz

  • I think this plot I just suggested would be cool for Metroid 5, because Metroid 4 (Fusion) ended with many signs of a possible sequel. We could already see signs of this group of corrupt scientists and politics underestimating the metroids and wanting to improve their already great danger to use them as weapons.

Metroids are just animals, the real villains are almost always those who use them as weapons - or, in this case, those who cultivate them irresponsibly.

  • *continuing...

Samus'd be attacked by many metroids, losing all her powers. She'd never win an army of mutant metroids even if the weak Fusion Suit (she lost the Power Suit in Metroid Fusion) still had all its powers. Then she'd find chozo inscriptions and remember legends about a great chozo warrior with an almost divine suit that was burried in this same planet. She'd have to find and explore the temple to take the Chozo Suit, only with that she could save that planet - and prove innocence.

  • I heard that there will be Metroid 5.

If I was the writer, I'd make a 3rd illegal lab with mutant metroids, just like in Other M and Fusion, but in a human colony planet. Samus would find out with the data she got from Fusion, then she'd invade it to collect proves against the corrupt scientists. But they'd try to kill her, setting all metroids free by accident, then they'd all escape to the surface and attack cities. They'd blame Samus for this chaos and she would have to prove her innocence.

  • I remember practically ALL the secrets in the NES games and Sega games I owned. I started out on the classic games at the age of like 3 or 4 years old, so I retained that information like a sponge after watching my older siblings play and my dad haha. Good memories =)

  • Holy crap, I never knew about that secret at 5:45. I always end up getting the ice beam in Ridley's area. The same weapon is in two different locations?

  • Yup, pretty much the first thing you do in Metroid is get ready to go get the ice beam. It's so good for freezing things and jumping and taking short-cuts.

And then of course, this one also had the long beam, since you start with short range....

Very unforgiving game with pits that can take forever to figure out how to get out of, etc.

Modern noobs wouldn't like it. Requires too much skill and patience.

    Ice beam helps though.

  • wouldnt it be crazy if metroid was a girl? there arent enough girl videogame heros.

  • @MrPants432 the name is samus, and she is a girl

  • if you have metroid prime AND metroid fusion beat metroid fusion. First of all, its a good game and second, you will unlock metroid(oh yeah and i forgot to mention you also need a gameboy/gamecube connecter.sorry.)on metroid prime. And another code for infinite health and missiles is

    NARPAS SWORD0

    000000 000000

  • thanks you for making a speed run that isn't tool assisted. I mean... whats the fun in watching a computer program play a game?

  • This was the game that started my horrible addiction. I got a Super NES because they made metroid on it. I got a gameboy because they made metroid on it. Then I got a gamecube only because it came with metroid. Now just the other day I broke down and got a gameboy advanced for ...yep...metroid! Damn it
