  • This series is awesome! And once more specially when I watched this I can only say : What does really matter, what about every day's struggle and fears and worries, fights and hate and wars and stuff? We are all less than nothing compared to the universe and even if Earth would end in big blast- who seriously out there would give a damn. One tiny bright spot in trillions - that's how I feel and consider my "Important" person. I wanna explore the Universe when I die that would be it...

  • I'm so in love with this man...

  • @thesonglines ...and Richard Hammond.

  • Okay, that was by far the best documentary trailer I have ever watched. The Scenes, amazing, and the music topped if off with my favoire epic sonh :)

  • OI BRIAN! read me a fuckin bedtime story, put me to sleep with that voice of his lol top bloke.

  • This guy is my hero. I imagine him in front of the BBC director saying:

"I have an idea for a new documentary about the universe, and for explainde concept of entropy I should go to Namibia, to explain gravity I should go to Victoria Falls and take a zero gravity flight, go to Egypt, etc"

No seriously, I love the serie and I would like another season

  • Brian Cox rules man, I love how positive and passionate he is !

  • The narrator looks like Google Translator. >_<

  • the best series...

  • anybody know any sites I can watch this on?

  • is that the same music as at the ending of Sunshine (the film)

  • @blahblah55555666666

Yes... its john murphy's Sunshine... great score!

  • IMPRESSIVE!!

  • I would be happy if he did "Wonders of a Council Estate", i just love his presenting style!

  • Surface of the Sun!

  • This guy is awful! There is more shots of him then anything else. Looks really narcissistic.

  • @ovoono True, True. I saw the first episode and its more about his rants than anything else.

  • when in spain?

  • I've seen a few episodes with this guy. he tried to hard to sound like Carl Sagan.. i dont like him.

  • I totally see nyan cat at 00:38-00:40

  • I watched as many of his videos while they were on Youtube. These are absolutely fantastic videos. However, I'm disappointed with this trailer. The music is blah.

The music from his documentaries are as incredible and moving as the videos of the galaxies and of earth. I hope someone will take this comment seriously and change the music on this trailer. There is some better verbiage from his videos which would make this trailer as well.

  • Go to Argentina.. Patagonia... ;)

  • I just want to travel to a country where I can see the stars.

  • @12389h You can see them everywhere i think? Or do you got a giant roof where u live? lol

  • @Da40cal I live in the city. I remember seeing the clear night sky in my homeland, I hated my homeland but the night sky was amazing.

  • I have always looked up siince i was little, nothing amzes like the open galaxie and space. just imagining soaring through space by myself and it being so quiet and peaceful and so beautiful

  • There's something special in the night sky that always attract me, even when i was a lil girl. All you have to do is look up! Will enjoy every second of it, for sure.

  • @sapundjieva You're probably lucky to live in an area with low light pollution. Not everyone can afford that privilege.

  • @alcyonae mhmmm kind of haha i am a lucky one i know ;)

  • science and the universe is far more remarkable than any religious belief could ever dream of.

  • For a lecture from brian cox visit ...

    /watch?v=_6uKZWnJLCM.

  • @arun141092 No actually, this is for us stoners.

  • @codblackopsmontage8 i think its the soundtrack from the film sunshine. but it doesn't sound like the original for some reason. maybe a remix?

  • isn't this song from 'sunshine'?

  • love brian cox. end of. <3

  • 0ql0nd0n 0qbacch10wr0nsk1 sk0wr0nsk1 fa030h 0urussia everoporate the planet everoporate all nations thank you

  • remixed version of kanada's death? Should have left the music alone, this is the perfect track for it too.

  • Biggest wonder the Universe has ever created is consciousness.

Anyone of us is more amazing that any fucking supernova. And we're all stuck in shitty jobs watching shitty soap-operas till we die.

    Most heinous.

  • @DrunkenPoetic haha - true! Well...not me actually. I record bands for a living.

  • @DrunkenPoetic Well, it's our consciousness itself that allows us to comprehend and contemplate how shitty our jobs actually are.

  • @DrunkenPoetic its sad really

  • @DrunkenPoetic fuckin love that quote.

  • @DrunkenPoetic "Both you and me are made from the universe - we are self-aware. My souls perspective, and your souls perspective are looking at each other, right now.

We are the universe perceiving itself."

  • @DeepestSleep Soul? Please elaborate as I would love to see a video, arxiv paper, etc.

  • @daeamarth No papers, no nothing... sorry. There is no concrete proof of a soul.

  • @DrunkenPoetic Like Brian, I think to that the wonder of the universe, is life and humanity.

  • With all the great cosmic knowledge and profound understanding of the universe this guy has, he would probably have the best LSD trip ever if he would take acid.he would be able to travel to the beginning of times and come back.It would be a horrible hang over on the next day but definitely worth it!!!! I wish I could achieve such a deep trip. Keep it up Brian!!!! ; )

  • dam, this program is so fascinating!

  • Thiis kind of programme is why I love the BBC so much.Awe inspiring and thought provoking. Thanks BBC and thanks, Professor Cox.

  • If you want to feel truely small, watch 'Everything and Nothing' on iplayer, the universe is a very big place.

  • @AudioGraphics and what a great little series that was, too.

  • Brian Cox... a physicist, astronomer, talented musician, works a CERN and is 43 but looks 23

He needs to be taken down, hes making the rest of us men look bad

  • oh Prof Brian, I'm in love with you! :)

  • 2011 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: The Theory of Everything - for more technical aspects.

  • Youtube, the library and Open Uni have the more in depth stuff. Don't expect TV to show that kind of stuff. I like the indepth material, but i like Cox's stuff as an introduction and interesting perspective. As long as you can access the more factual stuff, then that's fine. How can you expect the more technical aspects to catch the interest of the layperson? The books are there to read and readily available. no problem. Shut up about how much you dislike Prof. Cox. He made it past 'reader' btw!

  • Sometimes people can be too cynical. why berate enthusiasm for this subject? Cox's approach is great for certain people and he deals with the most significant points and encapsulates them in an articulate way. I see him as a pastor of science showing the awe and wonder of the universe. Religious pastors just seem boring and outdated now and the Bible can't match a good science book in terms of fascination. His enthusiasm and love for the subject is like that of Jim Al-Khalili's.

  • @antag0nismo

Documentaries are not required to catch the interest of the lay person, they are supposed to educate. Now watch the first episode of this series and try and find me one fact that you didn't already know. In fact find me a concept in the first 20 minutes that you think couldn't explain to a 5 year old in the same length of time.

Show me a point in that whole episode where you were thinking"Wow,I didnt know that, that's really interesting" and not "deeerrr, look at da pretty culurz"

  • @ringosis - that's a bit of an exaggeration. TV is useless for people like you then. Even the TV news is not that good if you think about it. Charlie Brooker can attest to that. The rest, like dramas and films can be seen on DVDs or the iPlayer.

  • This song reminds me of Strobe (Adagio in D minor) from the movie Kick-Ass.

  • love this version of the song surface of the sun by john murphy playing in the background

  • does anyone know the name of the song?

  • @machib77 The Surface of the Sun - John Murphy

  • The series opens with Cox waffling on for half an hour about absolutely nothing of any consequence.

After I watched it I switched over to Charlie Brooker's new show where he was talking about how documentaries have taken a turn towards less and less actual information and more pleasing front men just walking around, looking at stuff, making fatuous comments intended to sound profound.

I felt more informed by Brookers half hour comedy show than this hour long spectacular POS

  • @ringosis I love both Prof Cox's and Brooker's shows!

  • @manchesterfellow

I love Brooker's shows, I can't stand Cox. As I pointed out before, I've learned far more from a single episode of any one of Brooker's satirical shows than I have from an entire series of Cox's mindless drivel.

Watch the latest episode of How TV Ruined Your Life. Brooker talks at length on the subject of documentaries containing less and less information as they move away from being programs designed to teach toward another form of entertainment.

  • Scientists talking about theories and facts are being replaced by celebrities talking vaguely about what "science" means to them in picturesque locations while they stare into the distance and remark how wonderful it all is

Before you say Cox is a scientist.Hes not,hes a celebrity with a PHD.The fact he could(I assume given educatoin)give quite interesting lectures just makes the fact that he chooses,or is forced by the BBC,to make such inane rubbish makes the whole thing even more annoying

  • @ringosis

i don't want to argue about the show itself, simply because i haven't seen it yet, but the one thing that bothered me is that you said brian cox is not a scientist (or perhaps a proper scientist if you will). dude come on, before you start to criticise someone make a fuckin effort and do some research. he works at CERN and he's a professor at a university, don't you think he deserves to be considered a proper scientist?

  • @amidrastein

The point I was making is that he is both a scientist and a celebrity in equal measure. The problem is that he hasn't been chosen to do this because of his scientific background but because he was "once in D:Ream"

He doesn't front the program in the guise of a educator or an expert, like say David Attenborough or Carl Sagan, but instead takes the role of a fascinated observer like Danny Dyer in "I Believe In UFOs"

  • What annoys me the most about this crap however is the fact that you know that this tedious bollocks is stopping more interesting programs from being made.I have no doubt real documentary makers are being turned away from the BBC after pitching a physics based doc and being told that the schedule is full

I just dont understand who its aimed at...either you are interested in physics, which would make these programs condescendingly basic or you arent. Then would you watch it in the first place?

  • @ringosis

oh and also, you might want to check out some of his other documentaries (like 'what time it is'). maybe it's not all rocket science, and most of this stuff you should be able to pick up simply by going to school, but there are some interesting facts (like the GPS system is depending on the theory of relitivity). i think that the balance between pretty pictures and proper science in that one is just right for a tv show.

  • @amidrastein

And yes, I've seen his other documentaries and while I did find them too simplistic they at least attempted to stay on subject. Try watching this drivel and see if you hold the same opinion.

There's a full 5 minute sequence in the first episode where hes just looking at a glacier...for no scientific reason what so ever. He goes "Wow that's amazing" a few times, attempts to sound profound about the passage of time and then watches some ice falling off. Then it moves on. Its garbage.

  • @ringosis I personally disagree i feel the science is very much there the correct words are used to describe say the passage of time it simply appears totally out of context, but I find that fine because this T.V show is designed to be interesting to those who are not interested in day thermodynamics or astronomy and requires good visuals to do so.

The reason i like his show's this one included is because he is a well spoken man who never stops smiling seems permanently enthusiastic

  • @ringosis about a subject his passionate about. The shows are not designed to be full in-depth analysis his never are, but his job is to create more scientists in the future and when they do want to learn more they can read his book why does E=mc2. And he is better at that then anyone I have seen for physics.

O and as a side note I didn't know he was in D:Ream until I googled him to find out what else he has done

  • I should say, I have nothing against Cox personally. He's quite charming and even witty for a physicist. I just resent him for using up the BBCs science doc budget on shows that seem to be trying to make physics interesting to people who aren't interested in physics by removing any mention of physics from the program and replacing it with pretty pictures and a man who seems to be more amazed by basic astrophysics than a toddler who's just coming to grips with the idea of the Earth being a planet

  • @ringosis So your saying that it's stopping BBC from making interesting programmes by removing the dull parts of physics and replacing them with pretty pictures. Yes, he is doing that because it's on TV and who will watch it if it was dull, obviously he will make it more interesting than it actually is you fucking orphan, if you don't like it you can fuck off, you need help, it's a programme, if it's not aimed at you , don't fucking watch it, there's other channels as well as BBC.

  • @ChannyLY

Physics isn't dull, the forces that created everything that ever has or will exist are pretty bloody interesting actually. If you think it's dull you probably shouldn't be watching physics documentaries and you are basically proving my point. This program is taking up time on the schedule which the BBC has allocated for science documentaries and the only people it's aiming to please is people, like you apparently, who have little or no interest in the subject.

  • @ringosis Your blaming BBC for shwoing 'interesting colours' , obvioiusly it would try its best to make it look more interesting, if you dont like dont fucking watch it simple as. Its not made for professors like you, because not everyone is as good as you, all your trying to make people think is that your on another level, if you think its not as good then dont watch it. Your a fucking prick , I bet your a fuckin 30 year old virgin at home commenting on youtube videos 24/7 you fucking prick.

  • @ChannyLY

I'm not trying to sound superior, but seeing as you are getting personal. If you found my comments egotistical,as if I was claiming that the reason I found this program dull is because Im just that intelligent then I can only assume that you are feeling belittled because prior to this you didnt know that the moon orbits the earth and space is "really really vast"

If so, then you should think about suing your local authority for failing to provide you with a basic level of education

  • @ringosis Yep you sound cool, your a fuckin virgin bro, fuckin wasting your time on the internet showing off. I bet your a fuckin cunt who gets bullied in real life and you try and make yourself think your clever just to boost your self confidence. Seriously get a fuckin life mate, you dont like the programme then fuck off end of. I like it and so does a lot of other people. You cunt your a pussyhole i bet , and scared of expressin your fuckin opinions in real life and you have to do it online.

  • @ChannyLY

Thanks for the replies man. Every post you make saying how much you like this program is reinforcing my argument that it was made for complete morons.

  • @ringosis No, its only you said that this programme is made for complete morons, i dont think im a moron just for liking something, so fuck you and fuck your mum because she gave birth to a complete wasteman. And i dont mind commenting back , cos im jus dissing you and hopefully youl realise one day your a no life cunt . I am actually sure your a 30 year old virgin, seriously who would fuck you, your a sad fuck , piece of worthless shit whos negative about a fuckin physics programme.

  • @ChannyLY

I didn't say that you were a moron because you liked it, I said you like it because you are a moron...do you see the difference?

  • @ringosis Yep and again, shows how fuckin gay you are you fuckin neglected 30 year old virgin, fuck off man , you dont like it then fuck off dont go braggin on bout how fuckin clever you are. a programme cant be good for everyone, you dont like it fuck off fuckin prick

  • I think what Cox does well is to apply some meaning to it all.

Like when he makes the link between entropy being the source of decay but also providing the timeline and hence the possibility of life and consciousness.

I thought the whole thing was done beautifully. If I want pure objective facts I'll read a science book. That's not what I watch this for.

  • @DrunkenPoetic You should try reading the accompanying books to the 'wonders' series written by the professor himself. These books are just as beautifully penned as the TV series

I first thought the books would be merely factual, but as it turned out they are astonishing reads, with much more information than they could fit into the programs themselves, and all enterwined with magic from Brian.

  • So worth reading even if you've seen the series?

  • @DrunkenPoetic Very much so.

Not everyone would enjoy picking up the books, when compared with watching the series, although i feel there is more detail and divulgence which is not found in the tv versions. As you stated in one of your comments about facts from a science book, these books are not factual in a sense that they're more story driven, rather than chugging out restrictive drivel.

    (continued)

  • @DrunkenPoetic The books are structured similarly to the tv series but whereas the program lasts an hour, a chapter in one of the books if put to screen, would surely be an 90 minute movie. Simply just more informative enlightenment. Of course, you haven't the soundtrack, visuals and other pointers which can be attributed to screen but the books are a marvel all the same. I've droned on a little. I think the books are truly worthwhile a chance pickup, with or without having seen the series.

  • No that's cool. With have to give them a go.

  • This is effectively a light entertainment show, and if it was billed as such then there would be absolutely no problem. It would be competing against programs like Top Gear and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, but it's not. It's taking the place that is usually filled by things like Horizon or Blue Planet.

  • @ringosis Yes and....? You don't like it you can fuck off, your just trying to say your too clever for this shit, seriously fuck off this video, you spend your fucking life on youtube commenting on this video. also it's not your fuckin decision what shows should be on or not, if you dont like it, other people do, so stop giving your professional opinions thank you very much. All its trying to do is entertain people but if you like looking on the dull side of things thats you.

  • @ChannyLY

I can enjoy mindless television as much as the next person. As I said, if this was classed as an entertainment program it would be fine, but I pay my licence fee and therefore I expect certain things in return for my forced patronage.

The BBC is contractually obliged not to fill every hour of the day with the same type of program and this program, to me, seems like a way to side step the broadcasting actual science documentaries by pretending this is one of them.

  • @ringosis Well it gives you facts and details, it cant make everyone happy, only because you dont like it dont mean the BBC shouldnt play programmes like this, I enjoy and so do a lot of other people. Again, its you who dont like it, and its not your choice what programmes BBC should make so fuck off you cunt.

  • CRAP! i missed it :(

  • @haloKINGSstudios Use BBC iPlayer and watch it online.

  • Song: The Surface of the Sun - John Murphy. THUMBS UP IF YOU CAME HERE FOR IT!

  • @Livingreciever

Ever since I heard this song on Sunshine and then KickAss, i've loved it. It gives me goose bumps, i dunno why

  • @AudioGraphics damn right :)

  • 0:47 PROFESSOR BRIAN COCKS RETURNS TO BBC2! JOIN HIM AND DISCOVER THE WONDERS OF THE? ......sorry CUT !

  • you should watch the film sunshine on blu-ray or dvd with brian cox,s commentary on it....he was the scientific advisor on the movie.

one of me favorite films ever.

  • Looking back at Destiny episode

I wonder, if the universe will end and all the stars will fade out as intelligent beings we could form new stars and ignite new galaxies, if we had to the techonology to do it, we could potentialy prevent the end of the universe!

  • it's sad that one day all this will be dead... money is not everything so enjoy life you only get one well on this earth anyway!

  • @RandomnessTube i wouldn't worry to much. still got about a googol years left....

  • BRIAN MARRY ME. The first episode was AMAZING, it's really opened my eyes to how incredible the Universe is! I'm so glad to be a part of it! Can't wait for next week's!

  • Destiny...

    outstanding episode

  • What video format was this series filmed on?

  • this is soooo awesome! I want him to read me a bed time story :))))))

  • How can I watch it in the US???????

    I don't think they're showing it here???

  • religion please go away with all ur well meaning rules u cannot explain phenomenon by looking inwards and cox get back to Geneva and find the higgs ! peter is looking for it

  • Watched last night, it was incredible, looking foward to the rest of the series.

  • So beautiful I almost cried last night. Who needs the stink of religion, science is everything....

  • @Pantheist1 lets just please avoid the argument of religon and just enjoy the beautiful series.

  • The music is used in lots of films - Adagio in D Minor

  • What music is uded in this trailer !

  • I think in the future, Brian Cox will be just as fondly remembered as Carl Sagan is now.

  • 1st episode was brilliant, gave me shivers down the spine!

Cox is more or less saying what Sagan has already said

  • Brilliant.

It didn't make me feel insignificant though. Quite the opposite.

It pretty much confirmed my belief that life and consciousness is the greatest thing to ever happen to the universe.

  • He inspires me

  • IT'S ON!

  • we are so small

  • SO EXCITED!!

  • Going to be thinking about this all through my shift at the pub today. Get's me through it! :D

  • TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT, CAN'T WAIT

  • I've been D:Reaming about this series for ages, it comes true on Sunday. Sorry for bad joke.

  • im soo excited i cant wait rarly do i get like that for a tv programme.

Even if i know (some) of what he is teaching already he makes the subject captivating - his voice alone, besides the amazing photography and graphics. His passion is contagious and inspiring. he should teach in my old school!!

  • @AWhileHanlin you summed it p perfectly

  • Regarding the music being from Sunshine, Mr Cox was the scientific consultant for the movie...as mentioned during one of the Stargazing episodes.

  • Found the song - takes a while to get into. John Murphy - Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor)

  • Comment removed

  • whats the name of the song

  • What is the name of the song in the trailer?

  • @johnathonmcglinchy its Adagio In D Minor. Its from sunshine and kick ass, but this is a newer version. Still the version in sunshine is the best. Hope that helped =)

  • What a dood. I cant wait!

  • totally amazed, this is going to be, fantastic wooooo hoooo

  • Whats the music called?

  • omg gave me goose pimples

  • Using my cremation music in the trail....excellent work!

  • Goosebumps.

  • Lovely :-) ((^_^))

  • i cant wait i watched the wonders of the solar system last year nd that was awesome so this one must be amazing.

  • @DnLTracks shame its only just four episodes though

  • This series is going to be really interesting. I watched the Wonders of the Solar System, which aired last year on BBC TWO and I know that I am going to enjoy this just as much. I cannot wait for Sunday. I hope they make more series of this show as the photography is brilliant, and so is the presenter.

  • Song???!!!

  • i loved wonders of the solar system, and i know im going to love this too, i think Prof Brian Cox has made space documentaries fascinating to alot of people who wouldnt watch them otherwise. I CANT WAIT

  • The tune on this is exceptional, fuck could that be the basis of some seriously epic chillout or even uplifting trance track (nu nrg/mark dawn style).

  • Also: I AM SOOO EXCITED. <3

  • Loooove the soundtrack. Sunshine!

  • Space is just plain awesome.

  • THAT IS SO THE THEME TO SUNSHINE!!!!!!

  • why is this not in HD?! Opening images could have looked even more spectacular on my computer. Its okay my love for space and its many mysterious will let it slide....this time

  • @TheChanclafaced - I would rather if I had it on an 82" 3D TV or Monitor running at 2560x1440 :D (with the content being 2560x1440)

  • @AmH032uTuBe oh man that would be epic. If only we had the capability to travel the universe and see this with in person with our own eyes. That would be even greater that any HD screen out there

  • @TheChanclafaced - Or, with the new AMD graphics cards, have 4 of them each being able to display 6 monitors = 32 monitors in Eyefinity with a total resolution of 15360x6400 (32 2560x2600 monitors) in Stereoscopic 3D. With a 9.1 (they do exist) audio setup. :D Best evar! :D

  • When i watch this, everyday life seems so... irrelivant !

  • space is so beautiful... so vast and so terrifying in an awe inspiring way

  • bet he feels like a god everytime he watches this trailor

  • If this is even a tenth as good as Wonders of the Solar System I am watching it.

  • Anyone else notice that this song "The Surface of the Sun by John Murphy" which is used in the film Sunshine is a film that Brian Cox was actually the main on-site scientist for this film! Love how it all links in!

  • HIGHLY recommend this series to everyone, especially in HD, I'm blown away by every episode.

  • @Kamma8 ...It hasn't started yet

  • @Ail3a My bad, I didn't even notice that this was "Universe" instead of "Solar System" lol!

  • Brian Cox couldnt explain to the camera guy what a wave was, he just threw a little hissy fit after 5 minutes of trying lol if anyone finds that video let me know its funny shit

  • Now, if he'd just do a proper science show, i'd be very happy

  • What is the song in the background?? It was on the film Sunshine....
