The mistake was allowing a15 degree bend/sraighten between the horizontal and point of delivery. Spinners can do anything given this opportunity. A real quick however doing this could kill. RB Desai, Cuan Mc Carthy, Ian Meckiff, Charlie Griffith, and a few more recent and so obvious (PC prevents the suggestion) were very dangerous bowlers. None of these fast men, I emphasize, were cheats- it was how their bodies worked. Cheats will take advantage eventually.
then your a dumbass because murali bowled offspiners in a special cast, because his elbow is deformed. just say you don't like him because he's sri lankan. this guy is the clearest case of a chucker. he's the absolute worst. the icc found his action to be illegal when the same test cleared murali on numerous times.
murali bowled all of his deliveries with a custom made elbow brace, with the same turn. i don't think it is humanly possible to prove the legitimacy of his action any further
Neither mate. Johan Botha bowls his off breaks in a similar fashion to how Asian players bowl offies. Watch carefully you will see the ball comes out as an "over spinning off break". Most Australian, English, New Zealand or any none asian team for that matter bowl our off spinners with more side spin.
The advantage of this Asian style that Botha is using is that it has a better flight trajectory and comes off the pitch faster... while turning. Singh from India is a great example of this style.
yeah his arm is bent, as for the chucking law, nah hes fine hes using legite finger spinning methods. Hes a great bowler no doubt, the yorker length gets every batsmen in a pickle.
I am a big proponent of the theory that if the action looks suspect it is suspect.....from that theory this action is no more suspect that murali, harbhajan or saqlain....poor botha.....
Yes, and that is why he was reported back in 2006 for it and was found innocent. Then changed it when he returned and has been accused again by AUS because they are crying fuckwits.
Johan Botha bowling at 90 odd km/h and people say he throws the ball. and he doesn't really.. Shaun Tait. bowling at in the high 150's km/h and can see he throws the ball. but no one reports him because he is a Australian.. There is a big difference from throwing at 90 km/h which would hardly hurt with a cricket ball and at 150 km/h which could break any part of your body...
Because Murali never straightens his arm, and this has been proven by world, and australian scientists... However even you and i can see that Botha straightens his arm when he delivers
Thats why Botha's career is almost non-existent now and Murali is the world record holder in most bowling catagories
botha has been reported for having an illegal action again, the ICC should just ban him forever already, he'll never get it right, something that is natural is just natural.
y is it such a big deal if a spinner chucks in that kinda way y not just be a man be a man and face it..its only a matter fact of 1degree excess maybe so wat..its not lyke because he is chucking its lyke unplayable.every bowler has unique action and that makes this sport,,sachin never complained about murali simply because he could play him well,,and there is nthing extraordinery about botha any gd batsman could play him with ease,if beckam starts playin with left foot doenst mean u ban him
actually, botha did and still does chuck it - hes been banned by the ICC twice and hes remodeled his action to make it less harbhajan-like...but if anyone's watching the aus v rsa odi at the moment, its clear that the ICC still needs to work on the chucking problem at the moment.
righteo 32346737, i didnt say harbhajan chucks but since you seem so eager to make your point (see above spam)- the 15 degree rule was put in place because its the point at which you can start to see a bend with the naked eye (disregarding those with congenital deformities like murali & akhtar), if this is true then botha is definitely throwing it. i agree with ezyroller- it doesnt mean jack that hes been cleared, under the new laws a guy could blatantly hurl the ball and get away with it
They've got lots in common. They both made it into international cricket with diabolical actions - it makes you think the cricket admin in Sri Lanka and South Africa is pretty dodgy. Can their coaches not read the fucking rules?
So...Botha getting suspended from cricket for a year so he could learn how to bowl was just out of spite, was it? The guy was a chucker then, and he's a chucker now.
Not sure about this one. Why does he need to have a bent arm anyway? Does he have the same problem as Murali? If not surely he could just bowl without the bend in his arm.
The majority of you who leave comments here have no common sense, this footage is at 2000FPS, ar the speed our eyes process his normal delivery is 25FPS. At normal speed it looks like his elbow is indeed straightening but super slowmotion shows no profound throw. In any case this one frame/angle is inconclusive so all you amatuer bio mechanics experts passing judgement on bowlers need to concentrate on grade school first.
dude, the footage isnt playing at 2000fps, that would be at a proverbial snails pace once converted to a normal (tv or youtube =D) video- the cameras just CAPTURE 2000fps, to give extremely smooth slow-mo footage playback (at 1/8th regular speed or whatever they use, i dont know XD)
you are right though, a legitimate level of elbow straightening simply looks a whole lot worse when one finishes where murali has to (instead of with a completely straight arm)
Mate I am a video editor by profession.. Nowhere did I say its playing at 2000FPS playback speed is 25FPS or 29.97 these days... I was referring to the capture.
I have hit him for four a couple of times and I struggle to hold down number 8 in my club. He can throw or bowl, either way he is below par at test/ODI level

is it really that big of a deal? not like he's getting much pace off it or something.

Yes it is. If you chuck the ball you get more spin, better accuracy and you can also throw the doosra.
