Turkey may be an example of transformation of a religious state into a secular one - even if there is a lot of human rights abuse in Turkey, still the situations is much, much better than in countries like Iran

1) Recognize that whats at stake here is western culture, and in fact the freedom of all non muslims.
2) Recognize that Islamic ideology is higher virulent. As Winston Churchill said in "The River War", "its as dangerous in a human as hydophobia in a dog"
3) Stop islamic immigration, deport muslims, and purge the ideology from your country (Anything less and you lose over time)

Yes, those are extremely harsh actions, and step on all kinds of rights.
But trying to co-exist with this ideology is like trying to cooexist with a python...every chance it gets, it will tighten around you, one small step at a time, until you lose.
What can you do personally? Google Citizen Warrior. There are things you can do personally to help keep islamization and Sharia law at bay for as long as possible to buy time.

And, while the Abbasid Empire acted tolerant, Europe was under the Dark Ages...It wasn't really until the 18th century that Islam started to go back to it's fanatic roots...
As for the Dark Ages, I'm saying that there could a Renaissance for the Middle East....

I dont know what you think, only what you say. I was refering to the Islamic ideology. It comes from the 7th century, and essentially hasnt changed. Its the primary reason why the rest of the world has left Islamic states in the dust in terms of culture, technology, art, music, science etc.
Sure, there could be a reformation of Islam, but unless there is pressure to make it happen, it wont. Muslims still believe Islam will dominate the world as is, so why change?

I submit to you that part of the issue with extremism in the middle east is economic. if you look at islamic countries with a strong middle class, you will find that they have less extremism. most of the people who belong to said middle class are comparable to the social conservatives in the united states. EVERY religion has had instances of extremism, not just islam.
