Love this video Rick,I do this all the time mate ,Up the hill in the snow (when we have it),But going out into the woods and just being there...I know exactly what you mean.
I love the video effects you used in this video...starting out with a panoramic screen then shifting to a full screen. The Narnia type of music was great in the beginning. Rick, what type of back up microphone and sound recorder did you use for your audio for just in case your camera tape did not work. Did you actually have to use your back up sound source? Whatever sound source you did use....it is high quality.
@johnny102marvin Cheers John. I used a Zoom H1 as a recording device with a small lapel mic plugged into it and hidden in my scarf. Both the camera sound and the lapel mic sound turned out OK, but the lapel mic sound was the best, so I opted to use that.
forests are such peaceful places to be I do wonder though how we would cope if we didnt have contact with another person for a prolonged period of time. I remember watching Alone in the wild on Channel 4 about a guy who was surviving off basic rations in the yukon for 3 months he went a bit stir crazy towards the end. Could this possibly be a bug out location.
Hi Rick, nice video and HAT! Why did you put the shot of the van/lorry in it at the end of the video? That does not add something extra and has nothing to do with the silence of the forrest....
Lovely video Rick. I'm kinda fed up with the problems -18C are causing but, with the snow, freezing fog and then bright sunshine the place looks magical. I actually used 'Narnia' to describe around here to my daughter on the phone. It was a bit sad when you were leaving at the end.
Very nice. At least you don´t have -27C like we have now in western Finland. :) Every time I go outside I wish I would have some anti-freeze drops for my nose. :D
I love the wilderness you are in. It is fantastic. The lowest it has ever got here in America that I can remember was -21 degrees Fahrenheit. Rick, in your country, do you use Celsius or Fahrenheit? Nice video by the way.
@88Kieys Hi Elliott, yes the wilderness is fabulous whern it looks like this. we work in Celsius (or Centigrade) here in the UK. Minus 21 F is nearly -30 C - yikes - that's cold!
Nice video Rick, have you read on the Net the stuff from the guy who studies sun-spot activity to forecast weather? He believes January will be the coldest for the last 400 years: you may get the opportunity to make some REAL survival shows :-) ....Happy Xmas, all the best for the New Year.
Only some of Britain, on the Isle of Wight we haven't seen snow since it started a few weeks ago. Kinda annoyed - it would have been good to have a white christmas, instead its just an ice christmas :( Congrat's on your 300th video!
@rickvanman Last time it snowed last January it did get boring after a few days, but this time we only really had snow for 2 days, and this time the snow wasn't great (Couldn't make a snow ball at all!)
Great video Rick! Shame all the snow down here in the south east seems to have stopped just in time for Christmas! The one time we actually really need it and it goes! Merry Christmas!
@kimaging1 cheers - Merry Christmas! I used a small cheap lapel mic plugged into the zoom H1 and recorded sound independently of the camera. Seems to be a job well suited to the zoom H1.
Great video Rick and congratulations for your 300th video. It would be great to do a bit of film making in the snow. I have to agree with you, I'm getting tierd of the snow too, but it looks amazing in the countryside. Are we going to be seeing a Christmas video? If not Have a Happy Christmas!!
@TheMusicMark Cheers Mark. filming in the show is a pain - switching recording equipment on and off with gloves on is darn near impossible! Only a very simple merry Christmas video - I didnt get time to do anything fancy this year :o( Merry Christmas - have a good one!
Cool Video Rick mate, I share your passion for the white stuff. I'm sitting here now hoping for some tonight/tommorrow so we can have a white christmas:)
All the best for the season to you and yours, keep on churning out the videos in 2011 - especially the stuff re camper conversion!
Isn't this how Britain's winters used to be like? :) I don't think it's any reason to stay inside, personally. But maybe that's because I live near Wales and have access to a 4x4! :P
So much for this so called "Global Warming" nonsense, when was the last time Britannia got this sort of weather? God Bless you Rick, and have a very Merry Christmas!
@QuentinCallaghan indeed - it's interesting how it's no longer politically correct to say 'global warming' these days - it was quietly dropped and changed to "climate change" so the false mantra could be perpetuated.
Excellent vid Rick, just loved the toning and letterboxing effects - truly cinematic. Just how many cameras have you left on location now as you drive away LOL! Have a great Christmas, look forward to mork Rickvanman greats. Graham
Thanks for the mention in the description box Rick. :) Wonderful footage, I swear you could make any location seem dramatic. Good to see you have a rare opportunity to give your cold weather gear a real test. Now you know it will work for you even in extreme conditions. I imagine having the gear has already put you in a better position than most of your neighbors as far as dressing appropriately for the unusually cold temperatures. Congrats on the 300th video on this channel.
@FenderGibsonWashburn No worries Paul. Glad you liked the video. It's surprising what a colour grade and a letterbox template can do to a bit of footage. Definitely happy I chose to invest in the cold weather gear - now its paying off in dividends. Cheers - 300 vids - I really need to get a life! LOL!
Rick this is absolutely beautiful. I have only seen real snow maybe three times in my life(it does snow every decade or so in Florida). Isn't ironic that one of the centers of the global warming farce is in England. Of course, we gave the world the global warming village idiot, AlGore. Btw, truly great photography. Merry Christmas.
@joesphx19 Thanks - yes snow can be fun for a while, but you can quickly tire of it. It's just a shame so many people are still falling for Al Gore's BS. Glad you like dthe video though - Merry Christmas!
@OrginalKork Its done with Adobe After effects, using colour grading software called XSPro - which I believe is now obselete and you can't get anymore. I'm afraid it's no good making a tutorial that other people can't follow because they can't get hold of the software :o( It's a shame because XSPro is excellent.

And to ad with this, the 16:9-format for that movie feeling. :)
As always, a great choice of music.
Up here (north of Sweden) it's now -30 celcius and this is not even our cold season, that will come at the end of january. :)
