I love nature, always have, but Cormorants migrate from up north down through the Mississippi/Central flyway and spend about 2 months in Texas on their way south. 250 of us live on a 7 acre canal system and they are absolutely devastating to the fish here. 20 or so can swoop in here some mornings and feed voraciously (like in that video) for an hour and be gone leaving behind 2-3 pound largemouth bass that they wounded in their diving for the bait fish... it's a very hard thing to watch!!
cormorants are awful. they cause so much damage to our ecosystem. they eat all the bait fish and walleye, bass, and pike fingerlings (baby's). they have destroyed snake island of bakealite. i shoot as many of them as i can.
We have a large roost of Double-crested Cormorants on some rocks off Point Aconi here on Cape Breton. Watched them a couple of evenings ago, 8/9 or so at a time coming from all the local bays to roost there. Maybe 700 or more in total. No sign of them headed south yet. A few Greats about, numbers will increase soon I expect.
Thanks for your comments. The bird book I have says that they winter along the coast, so you'll quite likely see more of them as time goes by. It was amazing how fast they came and went, so they were probably migrating as you said. Thanks again
