  • I still find this tune so therapeutic. Plastician, I salute you.

  • So it's 2008 I discover this gem and my love for the upcoming genre of dubstep is kicking off. It's now 2011 and my hate for dubstep is ridiculous. What went wrong?

  • @chalkeywhitey nothing went wrong, genres change all the time, its the way music works. just appreciate what you can and maybe you can find what you used to love about dub.

  • @skipperbiv6969 To be fair I have, minimal dubstep <3

  • Saw this on facebook a few months back :D

  • @plasticman that bass really comes through well, did you use DAW's back then? or just analog gear? if so which program?

  • very well done mister plastician :)

  • This is one of that phatter tunes I've ever heard. Its amazing Good job on this.

  • Just to let everyone know... you can get the track as a WAV file on beatport too :)

  • The house of flying daggers is chinese, and so is the sample in this song. U know no nothing of Japan, nor Asia for that matter you bleeding waste. Go do something else u biggot.

  • @sjia97 And you clearly haven't read the video description.

  • @sjia97 Read the description you dummy.

  • @sjia97 From the description: "I know that the track "Japan" samples Chinese music. It was simply titled Japan as I wrote the drumloop for the track whilst in my hotel in Tokyo when I played there, and that is what the file was saved as on my computer."

  • Love the track. Much thanks as well to the info and background regarding it. Worthy purchase on itunes, thanks for the link. Much love and respect, keep em coming please. AMX

  • Dude you were insane last night at Audiotistic! Definitely gonna be watching out for your next dates. If you could stop by the Bay Area though that'd be appreciated

  • Having read point number 4, I find this more to be some sort of perfect harmony with oriental emotional relaxation/meditation music with a dash of dub vibes, but that's just my opinion on this track.

What I AM sure about is that this is by far my favourite dub/dubstep track ever, whatever subgenre you guys might call it, to me it's the most relaxing, most emotional dub influenced track ever.

  • This song took me to another place. Japan must be nice this time of year...

  • I have always been Inspired by your work, soo huge, you really did get me into making music! can't wait for some new tunes if you have some :)

  • Very cool use of the erhu sample, I like it. Where's it from?

  • so is this plastician or what?

  • @chronicEx this is Plastician, the name Plasticman was a previous moniker - check plastician on wikipedia for more info on that. I've had this Youtube account for years before the namechange, hence the Plasticman user name

  • I've removed a few comments I made to some posters on the video to simplify in this new post to clear it up.

Yes the track is called Japan. Yes the film is Chinese. People commenting on the fact I've "ripped off" a theme from a soundtrack - I'm not trying to pass this off as my own work, this is a common process in music production called sampling.

I liked the soundtrack, and I've sampled one of the main riffs from the soundtrack, timestretched it and looped it, before adding my own elements.

  • @plasticman

I did produce the bass, synths, and drums myself. The main erhu riff was composed and recorded by the original artist.

I don't mean to sound patronising to anyone reading this - afterall, not everyone knows how music production works. Sampling is a huge part of electronic music production, particularly in genres such as hip hop, house and in 2004 when I produced this track, it was a major part of the dubstep sound. Particularly oriental and indian riffs back then.

  • @plasticman alot of artist samples alot of stuff good example dj shadow and lest not forget the not so talented p.diddy

  • @plasticman you dont need to justify yourself to us! your a god of dubstep! i saw your set in croatia outlook 2011 and when Japan dropped was one of the best live music moments ive ever heard mate!

  • @plasticman Just bustin your stones dude !, I know samplers, I have an akai mpc, Akai s2000, emu esi4000, roland fantom x6 full audio track expansion, akai dr4d, Protools Sonar, a whole studio, great work, great song choice, people were talking bout your name which i have problems with in the past too, several names stolen from demos, and one theme too, I ended up at wiki and saw the story after posting re the no name Canadian with same name, hate that shit huh ?

  • chinese sample, originaly written in China by a chinese person.

China and Japan are 2 different countrys with 2 very very different cultures different language blah blah bla...Like calling a song Finland and using samples from traditional U.S folk songs..

  • @plasticman i love when someone calm makes a moron like cryst4al look like the moron he is.

  • You know whats fun is have a second youtube window open and press play on the original (youtube House of Flying Daggers OST - Lovers Flower Garden ) composer's track at the same time as pressing play on this one they are the exact same just one with a repetitive uninspirational beat and a sine/saw wave bass about 4 notes thats it, but you get a cool flanging effect from the slight difference between when you pressed start on both videos !

  • Hey we all know "The Plasticion" rules !

  • Even after your big disclaimer at the top I am still confused, I quote under the video up top it says Uploaded by plasticman on Feb 9, 2009 , then further you say to go to your MS page com/plastician, so which is it you cant seem to make up your mind, no wonder all the confusion, anywhuuu are u a plastic surgeon or what ? btw good song like the bass

  • @top40productions What do you not get mate? He used to be called Plasticman. Now he's Plastician. Its not hard. Douche.

  • @ahomelessvagrant Ahh the old name change eh? well thanks for straightening that out guess he shoulda just said that, and you used to be called wank stain rite

  • @top40productions hahaha wish I said that.

  • Comment removed

  • Let me get this right, you put Street Fighter samples on it so no one would steal the song you stole from the composer who made it before you could sell it on Itunes ?

  • Found this because of the very hott Mona ShpongledHoops hooping to it

  • omg i luv this..........

    im speechless

    woot woot japan ^-^

  • 420chan

  • @plasticman Well, I didnt know that, thx for the information.

  • 666 likes! This is what made Fukishima blow! OMEN!

  • awesome!

  • I think the streetfighter/plasticman problem arises due to the Mary-Anne Hobbs - Warrior Dubz: Various Artists cd; with the 'I am the magnificant plasticman', 'the plastic men are coming', ryu's 'hadouken' and 'iget a rush' sampled in at the start. In my opinion the best version. I do hope it is yours as i like your work.

  • Ahhh, the bassdrop gives me chills everytime. Superb work dude!

  • can any one tell me the main chinese 'ey' instrument?

  • @simplyBADASS

    err... what do you mean?

If you are asking about the instrument used in this video, I think it's the erhu (pronunciation sounds like R Hoo).

  • gr8 track

  • absolutely briliant and beautiful. would love to hear a real introspective spiritual rap on top of this

  • @Fatboi8923 you got owned

  • self glorification video .. lol .. but awesome track 4 sure!

  • this is fucking G !

  • this is niceeeeeeee

  • One of the first dubstep (yea, I'd count it there more so than grime any day) track I ever heard that also caught my attention at a friend's house. I love it. Definitely going to do a dance to it someday c:

  • @plasticman What is wrong with me? I followed your link but it just says the song is unavailable in the UK. I might be forced to buy the CD used. Why can't I just buy the song online from somewhere? I only want Japan, although I don't mind Intensive Snare. €9.99 is pretty steep for one song.

  • @funkadelicmunk my thoughts exactly. I just found my official favorite artist. :)

  • This clears my headachess!

  • plastic man u rock

  • B,E, FUCKING A, Utiful

  • @plasticman

my apologies, keep up your tight productions

  • My best wishes to everyone in Japan right now. Keep your spirits strong

  • mt eden dubstep didn't like this 6 times...

  • @MrMetal4Life94 ur kiddin right?

  • @MrMetal4Life94 .. awwww not sawtooth enough for ya? Get some good speakers or some killer headphones,,

  • @MrMetal4Life94 ... wrong

  • @MrMetal4Life94 Can I suggest you stay "Metal4Life" if you don't understand Dubstep?

  • @JagoReedJones i shuld huh fuckin dumb fuck...im use to skrillex, rusko, mt. eden...u know...GOOD SHIT!!haha

  • @MrMetal4Life94 Lmfao, Skrillex - Seriously? He's balls - he doens't fucking understand what he's doing with dubstep...

  • @MrMetal4Life94 Don't even put Skrillex in the same sentence with Rusko & Mt Eden, he is a bad joke to dubstep.

  • @AntomarcXIII If you'd said someone other than Mt Eden I would have agreed.

  • @qtpenski agreed.

  • @MrMetal4Life94 I hope your Joking this has got mad bass. Get some decent subs you retard!

  • @ESKSerialk1lla or maybe u fuckin dumbass i listen to good dubstep like Zeds Dead or Flux Pavillion...not this slow ass shit haha

  • @MrMetal4Life94 dubstep isn't all about the WUBWUBWWAAAAHHBWAAHHWUBWUB WOBBLE WOBBLE. you probably just haven't listened to dubstep long enough to appreciate the more toned down, but beautiful and emotional forms of dubstep. or maybe you only like really really dirty dubstep. either way, calling everyone a "fuckin dumbass" or a "dumb shit" isn't going to stop anyone from listening to this.

  • @MrMetal4Life94 dubstep at its roots is a "slow ass shit" bro...what your listening to is a mash of distorted mid basses which lacks melody really...and anyway your a faggot and you are in no position of telling whats dubstep and whats not

  • @MrMetal4Life94 lol get a better system OBVVV

  • What movie is this?

  • Love the song, great movie as well!

  • Now we have to wonder why all other artists can't make such fantastic beats? no one out there comes close to it with their commercial and club crap. This song is great and could be great with R&B vocals or a slow rap lyrics.

  • @JDFS22 This ain't just a 'beat'. This would be fucked up if it wasn't an instrumental, it wouldn't speak the volumes it does if it wasn't...

  • I've been listening to dubstep for 5 years now, and although I've been through a lot of good tracks, I can't get bored of this one.

    huge up to you mate!

  • Massive respect to Plastician and his contribution to music; this isn't a kiss ass comment but I would just like to pay respect to an artist who's music has seen me through numerous gym sessions; calmed me down after and shit day at work and what not. Thank you.

  • @KameoArtois i felt like posting the same comment man! is wasted on these people though :(

back when he was doing a slot with mary ann hobs and called plasticman, damn how i hate pop culture. steal our shit, rape it then give us back the leftovers and expect us to piece it back together

  • @LonerStoner39 RTFD

  • @LonerStoner39 Yeah but the song is a remix of a song in house of flying daggers called "the lovers song" (or something like that) so thats why he has included house of flying daggers pictures...

  • @LonerStoner39 yes but the sample in the song is from house of flying daggers, the beat was made by plastician in japan hence being called japan
