  • i just cannot understand some one telling you what you are and how you should acted by the color of your skin, "if you are this, you should act like that"...i wonder what it's like one the otherside? when i pass on?

  • I loved this! I am not Latino but I am mixed and I lot of the things I heard are stuff I have to deal with too... I think a lot people who are just White American or Black American just can not relate or get it sometimes because they are just one thing and American... I am Indian and Black, from the Caribbean... and there are ALL kinds of mixed people there. People will say you're no different from me... but the thing is I am. People need to educate themselves.

  • I can identify with this greatly since I am of both African and spanish decent (although i look more black) it's just great to hear ppl talk about it. Maybe i won't have to explain why i am the why i am if this info got out more.

  • Mexico is a diverse country just like USA.. Im 5'9 my toher brothers are 5'7 , 5'11 and 5'12 WE COME IN ALL COLORS AND SIZES LOL..

  • I'm glad they finally broke it down at the end. There is NO difference between a BLACK latino and a BLACK American except for culture. It is the African blood that makes us BLACK and Brown. Whether we eat BEANS and RICE or CHITERLINGS, its all the same.

  • if you look at latin soap operas they are usually white or brownish which I always thought was stupid

  • @Yesy8472 The reason that black Latinas are not included is because they are African or Africano. The people who control the media are the Mexicans with Televisa & they started Unvision b4 selling it who only have 1% Afro Mexicans in their country. The people on their mainly are Spanish or European looking or Mestizo which is European & Indigenous Ancestry or Indigenous looking. Telemundo on the other hand was owned by a Puertorican and they have a large Afro Latino population on the island.

  • @Yesy8472 If you look at Argentinean tv then you will most likely see what you see on Telemundo which is very European Spanish or Italian looking people. Latinos originally come from Italy & Hispanos originally come from Spain & Native Indigenous come from the Americas & Africanos come from Africa. If you look at Dominican tv which population is mostly African around 85% to 90% African you will see more people of African descent & Mulattoes with some Spanish European looking people.

  • I GO THRU THIS EVERYDAy!!!

  • This is so true becuz and so sad becuz wen i say I'm hispanic everyone including other hispanics say really?!?!?!?!?! like are you serious we all come in difference shades and colors! I'm a mutt and damn proud!!!!

  • really really fascinating.

  • Damn. There is a lot of self-hate in the Latino community. Just love who you are. Damn.

  • @oanunkor there's alot of racism and ethnocentrism in latinamerica & the latin/hispanic community in the USA. it's hardly talked about.

  • To be honest I wouldn't want to be with them because I think they are Latina because most of them probably can't even speak Spanish fluently like a Latina. The reason I would want to be with them is because they are hot. Christian Milan is Hot. Sabi is Hot & Soledad Obrien is Sexy. She is Irish and Afro Cuban. Tatyana Ali is super cute. I am surprised they did not have Stacy Dash who is also super hot. People are attracted to who you are not what you are. Being hot helps though.

  • When Celia Cruz sung La Negra Tiene Tumbao it was more than just a song it was a Political Statement. It was My people are just as worthy that they don't have to walk from behind. Mejor camina de frente. In other words be proud of who U R. She did not sing La Hispana tiene Tumbao or La Latina tiene Tumbao this was a direct message that has been ignored. She just played the game 4 Hispanics & Latinos who control the media but her message was to her afflicted Afro Cubano community & Afro Latinos.

  • @ElJamon4Me Amen well typed!!!

  • It will happen this Century that the Castro Regime will get toppled and Cubans will no longer have their Wet Foot & Dry foot policy. Puerto Rico is a lot trickier but they want their independence from the United States of America & some want to stay & become more than a territory. the thing is that many people end up immigrating to Puerto Rico so they can become U.S Citizens. You don't think that the U.S is watching this? Eventually they may just give up Puerto Rico willingly to stop the inflow

  • The thing is that Cubans don't know they haven't been here in the United States long enough. The Cuban Revolution started in 1953 and ended in 1959 & from that point Cuban fled in mass to the United States to avoid communism. Once the Castro Regime gets toppled they will be revoked from Wet/foot dry foot policy & will be treated exactly like Mexicans. Puerto Rico is part of the United States but if it gets its independence like it wants it will also be treated like Mexicans. This century watch.

  • HISPANIC IS NOT A RACE IT IS AN ETHNIC GROUP. PLEASE RESEARCH THE RACES!

    caucasoid, negroid, mongoloid

  • @carmie33019 Hispanic comes from the word Hispano which comes from the word Hispania which comes from the word Roman Hispania which now is called Espana which last I checked is in Southern Europe where Spanish white Latinos come from.

  • This is a great and education video. Way to go mun2! I used to be a part of the NBCUniversal family. I'm glad to see the success that you are having.

  • 9:37 the guy said that some of the guys had sex with the slaves & said that is where the Mestizos came from. They were not called Mestizos they were called Mulattoes. Here are the definitions. Mulatto denotes a person with one white parent and one black parent, or more broadly, a person of mixed black and white ancestry.

Mestizo is a term traditionally used in Latin America, Philippines and Spain for people of mixed European and Native heritage or descent.

  • correction on earlier post left out the 1 and it read 0%. LOL 10 percent of the Mexican populace identified itself as white, 59 percent as Mestizo (Native American-European mixture),

  • The Problem is that Puerto Ricans and Cubans get offended when a white person calls them Mexican but really it was the Census Bureau fault for then lumping in Cubans and Puerto Ricans in with Mexicans. They could have called them West Indies or Caribbeans to avoid confusion. Many of them don't know how Latino and Hispanic began in the New world via Mexico because Mexico was the heart of the Spanish Empire in the New world then the French took it over. Nueva Espana Hispanos then Mexico

  • eports of "Other race" for respondents who wrote in Hispanic entries such as Mexican, Cuban, or Puerto Rican. In 1970, such responses in the Other race category were reclassified and tabulated as White

  • @cherie594 The reason that many people in the United States with the Latino look is because 70% of the Latinos in the United States are of Mexican descent around 32 million to 39 Million depending on estimates. Also since Mexicans have been in areas like Texas which use to be Mexican Texas & California & New Mexico, Arizona which also use to belong to Mexico the Anglos have had the most contact with Mexicans compared to other Latin countries. Also Mexican food is all over the United States.

  • Black & latino we stick together always and forever! Me entiende???!!!!!!!!!

  • yo soy afrolatino caribe~o pu~eta

  • This is awsome I'm using this for my presentation

  • What about just being human.People are so obssesed with heritage in America,it's sometimes ridiculous.

  • A "hispanic" could be either black, white, blue or yellow...a hispanic is just a person that speaks spanish as its native language. Only in USA, where ignorance is a hobby, "hispanic" is a race.

  • @mica2101dr Sort of. It's not uncommon for people to use "Hispanic" and "Latino/a" interchangeably. Especially within the U.S. Census Bureau, the definitions are still kind of foggy, as they have changed it several times over the past 30 years. It's more important how people self-identify.

  • @Xeginy ....and "latino" is a person that speaks a language that comes from "latin" (spanish, french, italian, portuguese, romanian)....all this definitios just for not to call them what they really are: AMERICANS!...or do we forget they come from countries that are part of the american continent?....pffff

  • @mica2101dr What? That's not what Latino means. Latino refers to someone who's ethnic origin comes from Spanish-speaking countries. That person's race would be "Cuban" or "Mexican" or "Dominican," etc. Also, Latino is more a political term than anything else, that was intended to create solidarity between all those who's ethnic origins come from Latin America.

  • @Xeginy thats what "latino"means in the USA where the majority of terms are misused.......... "Cuban" a race??? oh please give me a break!....please read, make some research and get the facts right.

  • @Xeginy Actually the term Latinos was first used - The term "Latin America" was used for the first time in the nineteenth century when the French occupied Mexico (1862–1867), leading to the Second Mexican Empire, and wanted to be included in what was considered Spanish America. source wikipedia

Mexicans were the first people to be called or referred to as Latinos in the Americas but Latino comes from Europa Latina Originally from Central Itally. Lookup Latium

  • @mica2101dr Not just in the USA, sadly. I have many friends from other countries - especially Europe, who think of Latina as a race :/ They'll be like "She looks Latina", and then I have to explain that being from Latin America does not mean that you will look a certain way, and that Latinos come in different races. I blame US pop-culture's influence on the rest of the world.

  • I love it...This has been my family's story for ages...

  • I'm half west-Indian and half South American.

I usually identify myself as Canadian, because it's easier

  • I've always been told I look italian, yet both my parents were Puerto Rican, even latinos look at me as either white or italian, I'm just a light skinned latino, salsero at heart. Funny when they speak spanish around me thinking I don't understand, then I ask them a question in spanish and the shock on they're faces, then they ask me, Oh you Latino?

  • @shomedamony I do not know if you know this but the Roman empire invaded Spain. They governed their for a long time. Where do you think your name came from & Language which was based off Latin as well as your Religion or most Latinos religion which is Roman Catholicism. It is very possible that you have Italian blood via Spain.

  • he House of Bourbon (English /ˈbʊərbən/; French pronunciation: [buʁ.bɔ̃]) is a European royal house, a branch of the Capetian dynasty (/kəˈpiːʃⁱən/). Bourbon kings first ruled Navarre and France in the 16th century. By the 18th century, members of the Bourbon dynasty also held thrones in Spain, Naples, Sicily, and Parma. Spain and Luxembourg currently have Bourbon monarchs.

  • Francia or Frankia, later also called the Frankish Empire (Latin: imperium Francorum), Frankish Kingdom (Latin: regnum Francorum, "Kingdom of the Franks"), Frankish Realm or occasionally Frankland, was the territory inhabited and ruled by the Franks from the 3rd to the 10th century. Under the nearly continuous campaigns of Charles Martel, Pepin the Short, and Charlemagne—father, son, grandson—the greatest expansion of the Frankish empire was secured by the early 9th century.

Turning a Blind Eye: The Human Rights Crisis in Puerto Rico

    ---

Perhaps most shocking, is the ongoing police brutality, including police killings of unarmed civilians and excessive force against civilians during anti-drug operations. In addition, the police department has singled out communities with a high proportion of racial minorities and indigent families for abuse, including the targeting of Dominican and Afro-Puerto Rican populations.

  • Great video!! I learned a lot about my Spanish brothers and sisters.

  • Happy i'm just "Human"

  • Im black (mom side) and Puerto Rican and Dominican (sperm donor side) me and my big bro are black and latino, and both of Beyonce complexion...I was raised more around my black side, but my big bro was raised around both sides, my dad was in my big bro life for a while til I was a baby and my big bro was 2...Im 19 goin on 20 (March 2nd), for my 20th birthday I wanna meet my dad and his side of the family...I LOVE and Im PROUD that Im black and latino

    Akon Fenty (aka Young Akon)

  • @lilfenty3292 and at 25 , you'll finally meet mother africa because you will be proud to be the child of an african dad and african mom. If this stiffles you then the cancer will never be cured.

  • Wow I really enjoyed watching this! I'm glad they are all embrace being black and latino culture. The ignorance they have all faced saddens me though.

  • This is such a powerful video. I as a cuban latina can relate to this in all levels! thank you for making this.

  • You got the most Powerful man in the world who is half black and half white and identifies as being a black man or African American. Barack H. Obama. He had a very famous quote. "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela."-

  • Look these people are Afro Latinos like Derek Jeter, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, is Afro Anglo or Afro Caucasian. Now because there are Afro Caucasians does that make all Anglos or Caucasians black. No of course not. Anglos or Caucasians are from Europe. Just like Latinos are from Europe. Spanish comes from Europe as well as Latin & Latinos. Look at Argentina & look at Dominican Republic. Vastly different in appearance. You got Argentina 90% White & Dominican Republic 85% black. Europe & Africa

  • @sportsmarvel the indigenous americans are mongols, not black or white or whatever.

  • @EliasJordan3 This is similar to the admixture of Mexican Americans (in general). According to the last Mexican census to record race. Unless you are referring to them being Mongoloids which means all Asians not Mongols which is a specific people.

  • But mexicans ( all of them ) have african admixture. essentially the equivalent of one african great grand parent in them. The other mexican characteristic is that they short for the most part. that dominant characteristic is indigenous. The dark black eyes we know where those came from lol!

  • @cannoir Admixture levels in Mexico have been studied by the genome project of the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN). Their studies have shown a strong presence of Amerindian and European genetic contributions to the overall Mexican population, with a relatively small African contribution that is slightly above the East Asian genetic admixture.[1][6]

  • admixture by nature is small. But it seems you had a problem with me pointing out an obvious fact.a dna study is a reflect of its sample even thought it gives a broad picture of the society. You'll find that eva longoria for ex has twice the amount of african blood you quoted which essentially validates my previous argument, admixture is small but the quotient is not set in stone.secondly yes most mexicans have MORE native blood in them than any other ancestry and most do look the part.

  • @cannoir Eva Longoria Her DNA test results were: 70% European, 27% Asian/Indigenous, and 3% African. She has 3 percent which is does not necessarily mean she had a black grandmother. Since most of her DNA is European Spanish it could have come farther back in her ancestry from one of her Relatives. Arabs invaded North Africa and of course intermixed with the population & spread Islam. They invaded Spain and some intermarried. However not all Spanish have African blood just like not all Mexicans

  • No revisionist ,they clearly stated that she had around 7, xxx % of african ancestry yeah that's the equivalent of great grant parent of full african ancestry essentially a black parent not arab.and she did have a litle over 60% of european ancestry.North africans themselves are known to have a significant amount of black admixture in them.Hell white south africans have on average about 10% of black blood.Tragic circumstances spread african blood across the globe FACT !!!!

  • You sound like a 19th century revisionist. They had a descendant of as famous Russian writer tested.Everyone argued he didn't have african ancestry and when it became clear that he actually had black blood they tried to claim ethiopian ( the acceptable black) or arab lol! anything to hide black blood, fight , lies, cover up.They finally proved he had genuwine black blood in him and the equivalent of a full great grand parent.

  • @cannoir Eva Longoria is a single person and every person is different. It is like pointing out Derek Jeter or Alicia Keys and saying all Anglo Americans have African blood or have a black Grandmother. However you state that each Mexican person has the equivalent of an African Great Grand Parent. That would mean they would be a 12th or 12% African dna which even Eva Longoria's is well below at 3%. Again though this is just one person and test vary from person to person.

  • But didn't I say earlier that a small test sample does not give an accurate picture of the various DNA makeup and you argued that your study did ? you are cleary scrapping the bottom of the barel whether its 11,9 or not it is still the equivalent of g-g parent.Eva is well above 7%, when you couldn't win the argument you came up with the idea that the black blood might be arab as if the 2 could not be distinct.Because in your eyes Michelle Obama and Zaha hadid look alike right ? rofl!

  • @cannoir Actually I did not do that study or come with a Bottom Barrel number. This was actually done by Professor Herny Louis Gates Jr a prominent African American who did the studies for Faces of America on PBS. You can look up Eva Longoria on Wikipedia as well and it is stated there. It has nothing to do with winning. It has to do withe stating the facts and being correct. I just gave a theory or possibility since you insisted she had an african great grand parent.

  • @cannoir so you can't just say all Mexican people have African Ancestry because this is false just like you can't say they are all short not all have dark eyes because this is also false. Many have brown eyes & Green eyes as well as some having blue eyes. I have no problem with someone pointing things out as long as their information is factual and not incorrect. Also the information I responded with is documented and done by scholars and different institutions. It is not what I think.

  • Look I tell you this 95%of Mexicans have dark black eyes and jet black hair so different eye colour should not be a part of the discussion. And I don't know why non white people waste their time with the eye colour nonsense when we already know 80%of the world population has dark black eyes.Black eyes are the global norm. Also mexicans are short for the most part, hell aren't chinese very short yet the tallest person on earth is chinese ? the weight distribution is perfect for their body type

  • as far as african features goes.If black people can tell someone has european ancestry what makes you think they can't tell a mexican has african features?you really think people can't pick up on traits by eyeballing someone from head to toe? black people are only vocal about it when the recipient is in denial.Which is often the case as a lot of people are brainwashed into rejecting african genetics.cultural background can never trump ethnicity.NEVER.

  • @cannoir Mexico was found to have the smallest amount of African admixture. Mexico has the second largest amount of Amerindian ancestry, topped by Ecuador. A paper[32] specifically focusing on Mexican mestizos, has found them to be mostly Amerindian (55.2%) but also having a large amount of European admixture (41.8%). African ancestry was found to be 1.8% and East Asian ancestry, 1.2%. The samples were drawn from six Mexican cities: Sonora and Zacatecas (ZAC) in the north, Guanajuato

  • @cannoir that is not true

  • Ha! So true! It's like asking someone "Are you white or Canadian?" Duh, you're both. "White" and "black" Hispanics have the same culture. The whitest Hispanic from the Caribbean has black in them, and vice versa. It's hilarious to see the 'proud to be white' Hispanics marry other 'white' hispanics and have 3 'white' kids, and one 'black' one. Ha! Told ya you were mixed!

  • Being a latino is AWESOME dosnt matter if you are light or dark. Thats the beauty of being

latino we are not like any other race. We are beautiful.

  • How the f_ck does one look Latin? Makes no sense. There is absolutely NO SUCH THING as looking Latino or Hispanic. Wake up people!

  • There shouldn't be. Gina Torres is so feminine , she is composed , she is eloquent. all the other talking heads sound like they've been told off lol!

  • Very educational...Sometimes you don't really know what other people go through

  • Cool, I been tryna to pull one of them afro-latina women for a min, lol, but on a more serious note, I think it's great that blacks in the west don't simply have to be BLACK or WHITE, we can be what we are. Sure I'm AA, but to those with other stuff swimming in their gene pool, no one should feel forced to pick a side

  • @kirachan13 yea dat iz very tru!

  • I wish Zoe Saldana had of been interviewed also.

  • @dw29376 yeahh theres definitely a few I wouldnt mind seing up there...Including Alphonso Ribiera ( Carlton Banks ) and the dude that played in Do the right thing...Giancarlos...something..idk. lol

  • @deepstarr7020

Actually most Blks are proud to have brown, soft, naturally toned skin that barely wrinkles and doesn't require sun or tanning creams to be that way...Also alot of African Americans are of mixed ancestry and not because we are not proud of who we are but because some of us know and understand our history. HUMANS encompass several diff phenotypes that stem from the same genetic roots. The term Race was created to divide us and it has been successful.

  • @keynikki

No, I don't see anything that says "most blacks" are proud of their features. There are plenty of black women wearing fake hair and blue contact lenses to dispel your claim. Also, I would think anyone that's proud of being black wouldn't feel the need to tell people that they are mixed. African Americans are mixed enough that they don't look African period. No one cares if you're 1/16 European if you look black...you're black.

  • @Deepstarr7020

Your response has no merit due to the fact that women of all backgrounds where weaves and extensions and colored contacts, padded bras, lip injections, butt and calf implants etc... so you actually dispel nothing like most uneducated people who just enjoy spewing negativity..

  • @keynikki

Women of other cultures wearing fake straight hair and colored contacts aren't completely stepping outside of their culture when they do it. If telling the truth is considered negative...then society can never have a honest discussion about race/culture. It's funny how I present a different view (and because you're emotional) ....I'm "uneducated". Fine live in your own world where black people are impervious to any kind of criticism.

  • @Deepstarr7020 lol that's funny,So if your anything other than blk its ok to be fake.lol blk people come in all shades. from light almost white to very drk. Some w/ straight and kinky hair, but i guess you new that? Maybe you live in area that lacks diversity so t.v.is all u have? Not only are you criticizing the entire blk race but you are generalizing as well.which is what people who dont know the facts do.In order to have an honest discussion it has to be truthful.

  • i really appreciate this video so much.Growin up I had a lot of issues with my race, skin color, and hair. I use to hate explaining my ethnicity and why my skin is this way and why is my hair this way. Watching this video make me finally come to terms dat i am of spanish and african american blood as well as indian and a couple other thangs. I dealt with so much discrimination growin up in the black community. I wasnt dark enough to be black and i was to dark to be spanish. im ok wit da im both

  • @nanamonroe agreed. I dont know why most people who are not of African descent think that we are not proud of who heritage and ethnicity simply because " we are trying to be white" No one hates their race unless they experience a traumatic event( that could possibly lead to self- hatred) or is mentally ill

  • (con't.) dating back several centuries through slavery, northern migration, and several other times in history in this country. but you can call yourself black or afro latino or deny your african roots all together. that's on the individual.

  • this video was recommended for me and i wasn't sure i'd like it, but it was actually quite interesting. i would recommend the Black in Latin America series to anyone who is interested in seeing how afro latinos live in their home countries. i will say this, we are all of african descent with european and native admixtures, but in america, being Black with a capital "B" means more than just being yellow to brown. it's a shared experience of those of us who share a history in this country

  • It has been enlightening to see just how igorant and insecure black americans are about race since living in Europe.

  • Comment removed

  • @youruglymugg You stay in your unenlightened world my friend. LOL! Black Americans are NOT only African it is beyond ignorant to even make such a silly comment. Have been past your county line? If you have traveled, and from the sound of your post you haven't, yo missed an opportunity to broaden your pathetic mind. I just had to say that before I ignore you. Idiot.

  • @Pattydole70 The amount of white dna that black Americans carry is the product of the rape and molestation of our ancestors.Only a ruined people would celebrate the blood they have acquired from the rape.Besides the amount of white dna blacks carry is miniscule. No matter where you go our people is in ruin you should be concern is who constructed this reality. And yet I'm the bad guy and ignorant just because I don't agree with you.

  • Some of the niggas in this video is in severe need of a nigga wake up call.

  • Very interesting and true!!!

  • This exactly why I DETEST being called African American. I'm not & to box me in is, imo, the same as saying I should be blonde headed, blue eyed.

Working in healthcare, I've noticed clinicians describing one patient as white & the other as African American. The excuse is that their taught this to be less offensive & it helps ID genetic propensities, but they fail to realize it is offensive & a bad way to practice any science, esp medicine.
