No, I dont. And Im not saying that the jigger is the best tool to use, just better than grabbing handfuls of wool & skin, which to a sheep, is akin to humans being pulled along by their hair. I cant see from the footage that the operator is actually sticking the prod into the anus or genitals, I cant even see whether these animals are ewes or wethers. I cant imagine trying to keep sheep flowing through the race with the racket & distraction going on.
Saw at least a few Ewe's there (tag on right ear). Anyway, we've never used a jigger. Placing it on that region of the body would hurt like hell. Why they use it there? Mainly as it doesn't affect the meat quality. Not that it matters much anyway, the stress these animals go through just to get here, all the way from a paddock in a farm miles away, would be enough to affect the overall meat quality. I've always believed there should be mobile abattoirs or local ones close to the actual farm.
Jiggers aren't so effective on sheep because of their wool, they do have a little bare patch running from below the tail to the inside of the hind leg, & it appears that the operater is aiming for that. If they were getting a good "bite" from the prod they would react a lot more strongly. The alternative is used by the fellow who takes up the job after the break, grabbing a handful of wool & skin to propel the animal forward, painful & bruising for it, better to use the prod.
Do you know anyone else using this method to move sheep at an abattoir? Are you prepared to identify them? DPI reacted very strongly to this footage and I am sure they would like to have a chat to them.
disgusting. note how the man deliberately and consistently drives the prod into the genital area of the animals in order to inflict the most pain. it is terrifying to think of how often this cruelty occurs in the abattoirs of Australia - and that the only way the public will know is through covertly taken footage such as this. thanks for posting.
hope one day a sheep hit him in the nuts for that use

Personally I'd rather there weren't any abattoirs. That aside, the solution would be to get rid of the racket and distractions.
