  • it's a good scream, it's a wonderful ending...

  • So beautiful ! So sad... I love these characters, this movie and this score. Thanks for posting !

  • Saw this in the theatre with a friend when it originally came out.We were absolutely heartbroken by the finale. We so wanted these two people to win & live happily ever after. We weren't expecting such a tragic ending. We sat there during the end credits choked up & speechless.Devastating! It still gets me every time.I love BLOW OUT!

  • This is beautiful, thanks for posting. Love Brian De Palma, love Blowout, Love Sally. Thanks thanks ! <3

    HEY, STOP STABBING YOURSELF.

    STOP STABBING YOURSELF.

    STOP STABBING YOURSELF.

  • fantastic cinematography by zsigmond

  • Did anyone notice how EVERYTHING is red white and blue in this movie? Seriously, in the opening B-movie there is 1 red room, 1 white, and the blue shower room. When it shows the people watching the movie one is wearing red, one white, one blue. I don't even think I need to point out how many times you can see it in just this 9 minute clip. I only noticed this the 2nd time watching. Brian de Palma put a lot of things in here you can only notice if you watch the movie twice.

  • It's funny, because it's "Dick" killing "Sally"

  • one of my favourite films and BO

    Thanks for that

  • Being a Boom Op' is SO EPIC !

  • It's interesting that when Travolta and Allen were in "Carrie", they played despicable characters, but in "Blowout" they are very likable. That's what I call versatility.

  • me too

  • Is it that Travolta's character slips into sheer madness, from the trauma, Perhaps unrecoverable? Or was DePalma saying something else?

  • one of the best finals i've ever seen...

  • Brilliant film...and such a great & tragic ending. I doubt this ending would be allowed today.

  • one of the most heartbreaking endings in film.

  • @bigbiscuit100 yes it is.

its the only movie that makes me choke up every time due to the music.

  • @trikkerman1 I know exactly what you mean.

  • Has always been one of my favorite movies.....and has a great tragic ending.

  • Homeowner's Tip No. 147: Ensure ice-picks are well-hidden if John Lithgow drops in unexpectedly.

  • BTW, this wasn't the first time Travolta and Allen were a couple on the screen. Watch the original "Carrie" by the same director.

  • @cheapcape yeah I noticed that as well Travolta and Allen worked together in Carrie in 1976. Nancy Allen was married to brian de palma at the time and He also directed Carrie.and Olivia Newton - john was gonna play Nancy's role of sally in blow out, Olivia would have been reunited with Travolta again but depalma wanted Allen to play sally instead.I wonder How that would have played out Olivia Newton - john playing sally.

  • @Rukia212002 Thanks for your response. I never knew those facts you mentioned - that Allen married to DePalma and that Newton-John was originally chosen for her role. Fascinating. Yeah, Allen was so adorable in this movie and seeing her murdered at the end along with Donagiio's score, ouch! But I must admit, Lithgow really plays an evil character well. So much talent involved with this movie and I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch it at the theater with my awesome stepfather (RIP).

  • @cheapcape Thank you for your Response too, dont mention it,I'm sorry about your StepFather, He must have been very special to you when You watched Blow out in the Theater and you were very lucky to watch it with your stepfather [RIP].I hope your ok but Your stepfather is in Heaven watching you and is very proud of you.take care and God Bless you.

  • @Rukia212002 Many thanks. Yeah, we loved the same movies and he was like a second father to me. I miss him every time I hear this score. Indeed what a magnificent composer.

  • This ending always gets to me, very sad. Sniff..

  • Always loved this movie, its hauntingly sad music at the end and of course the twist on the scream at the very end left my mouth open back in '81. Thanks much for the post!

  • @80sweregr8 I Totally agree with you there, when sally screamed for Jack to save him, my mouth was left open too and I was very shocked and sad at the End.I love this movie too,Nancy Allen looked really beautiful in this movie and I think shes a great actress,Love brian de palmas movies and the beautiful pino Donaggio's music scores. the Blowout music score is just so beautiful and moving and very Haunting. and I Loved the 80s movies they were the best and the 80s were the best decade.

  • @Rukia212002 Yes, I said that tonight after watching again on IFC. The piano score is incredible.

  • @WizardOfHumor1989 John Travolta is a Brilliant actor and was Excellent in the end scenes When He showed his emotions in that scene,I Really felt sad for Jack and my Heart Sunk too and I was crying in this scene, The end scene was very shocking and of the most saddest scenes that I have ever seen in a Movie. I was shocked and Sad When it was too late for Jack to save Sally.and I Love pino Donaggio's Beautiful music score in this movie, it is really Beautiful and very sad and moving.

  • @Rukia212002 I fully agree. I actually watched this movie in the theater when it was released and even as a kid, I remember the music score remaining with me long afterwords. Beautiful.

  • @cheapcape I Totally agree with you Too, pino Donaggio's music score in Blow out is so beautiful and its so true what you said I Love this beautiful score, it does make me cry when I Hear this score because it goes in to your heart and touches you.Donaggio really knows how to makes his great movie scores so beautiful and so sad and touch people with his music scores. I also love The Dressed To Kill music Score, really beautiful and really sad and very Sexy, and Sultry Love Theme.

  • L'une des plus belles fins de l'histoire du cinéma ! La musique est magnifique !

  • Nancy Allen screaming with a giant American flag behind her around 4:30 is a powerful image.

  • Effrayant parallèle... Quelle tension ! Et cette musique, ces sons La fête et le crime qui nous font constamment osciller entre crainte et espoir quant à lissue du film Quelle fin ! Beau travail de recherche entre image et son. Et encore une fois, cette musique...

    Superbe.

  • You have to wonder what John Travolta was going through when he filmed the scene from 6:40 to 7:05 where Jack is holding Sally's dead body in his arms. This was only a few years after Travolta's girlfriend Diana Hyland died in his arms of cancer in 1977 at the age of forty-one. It had to be hard on him, and the emotion he brings to the scene is as real as it gets.

  • This scene is terrible to watch! Nancy struggles with Lithgow and unsuccessfully fights back and Travolta is too late to save her. Why did De Palma choose to end the film this way?

THIS IS A TERRIBLE SCENE TO WATCH! It's so traumatizing!

  • honestly one of the best movies I ever saw regardless of what people tell me. Pino Donaggio did such an amazing job with the score on this film. Bravo!

  • trumpet and strings mixed ina perfect excellent blend that give us the best feeling in a movie final.

  • Nancy Allen is so cute !

  • When she struggles, unsuccessfully fights back and dies under the hands of John Lithgow AKA Lord Farquad from SHREK, it's very vivid, sad, and profoundly traumatizing! Especially when John Travolta is too late to save her!

This is scene is really really terrible to watch!

  • @Rukia212002 The biggest concern I have is "Why did De Palma choose to end it this way?". IT's far sadder for a woman to get killed than it is for a man. Why choose to kill off the female lead?

  • Beautiful performance by Travolta, and a brilliant, moving score from Donaggio... De Palma is a genius!!

  • travolta show his huge skill in act and make the perfect face expression...wondeerful actor...we all love him

  • The beginning of the clip reminds me of the opening of Naked Gun when it switches to the first person driver view. Sorry, I had to laugh.

  • damn i love the music on the end of this movie

  • good work of Pino Donaggio

  • really sad,,,,,,,

  • Brian De Palma's best work in my honest opinion. This film is what made Tarantino cast Travolta as Vincent in Pulp Fiction.

  • @BarenuckleBless Agreed... and you are correct in your Tarantino observation. I marvel that this film was rather underappreciated (by audiences) at the time of its release.

Brilliant film...great & tragic ending. Defines haunting.

  • Best Tragic Ending ever

  • VERY VERY TRAUMATIZING! I still feel traumatized when Rachel Dawes gets killed in THE DARK KNIGHT and Bat Man is too late to save her!

  • @WizardOfHumor1989 I Definitely agree with you there. it was a terrible scene to watch and very upsetting. I Remember watching this scene and when John Lithgow was trying to strangle sally, she was struggling, it was a very terrifying scene, because there was a special parade Going on and no one was there to witness it.and when sally screamed, No one saw that, only Jack. he was running to save sally and it was in slow motion Running. I Really wanted him to save her.

  • @Rukia212002 Yes I wanted him to save her too, especially since I always admired Nancy Allen as an actress :)

  • @cheapcape Hi there thank you for your comments, and I also agree with your comments as well, I watched Blowout again when it showed it on UK TV - I watched it on TCM. I love this movie and the Ending was very sad and Heartbreaking.and yeah I know John Travolta and Nancy Allen were in Carrie together,I Loved Carrie and the opening music score to it.

  • @cheapcape Hi there thank you for your comments, and I also agree with your comments as well, the piano score is beautiful and yeah its incredible and Nancy Allen was great in this movie. • @WizardOfHumor1989

I'm pretty shocked that I don't even remember a female character getting killed in the Dark Night! Maybe it was because there was so much violence going on in it and The Joker characterization was so powerful and dominated the film so much. Yet after years (I first saw it when it originally came out) I remember the end of Blow Out.
