@supergodzilla12 That actually got quite a bit of controversy in the early 90's. Parents complained that the pledge drive was pretty much a commercial for Barney merchandise. PBS changed their policies about pledge drives after that. Anyway, enough about the Barney doll, how much is that Barney cardboard cut-out going for? XD

@supergodzilla12 It depended on the station, but for sure, this marathon wasn't rerun after the controversy and no PBS Kids characters could encourage people to donate to their station personally (as Barney did here). Barney was one of PBS's first programs to be made by a for-profit company, so they didn't have the experience. For more info, search "Barneygate."

@ArticaSkylarKennedy Yeah. Basically, Barney was part of a competition for the most popular new PBS show in 1992 (along with Shining Time Station and Lamb Chop's Play-Along). After a very hard decision (all three shows were doing well), PBS decided not to fund new episodes of Barney & Friends. In response, the Barney Fan Club asked its members to call their PBS stations and, thanks to the outstanding response, PBS reversed their decision. Ironically, B&F is the only one still on the air.
