Hell isn't a place of torture in the sense that it is the presence of pain; it is torture in the absense of God, who is everything that is good. Imagine it, an eternity of utter isolation, devoid of any hope or good that is God. that's the true torture. You can't have a lack of God and true happiness at the same time anymore than you can have darkness and light in the same space.

The "flawed logic" oozes from almost every conversation about religion with theists. I mean, where do you start? Appeal to emotion, Pascal's wager, goddidit, all things need a creator except the creator, the banana, straw man versions of evolution...it's one bad argument after the next.
its really a matter of perspective. the main problem people have is when they try to argue theology with someone who doesn't even believe in a God. if you want to get anywhere you first have to establish the possibility of this being.
a LOT of the time its them taking bait, bait you know you want them to take because there are a TON of things you can rip on that have zero relevance to the question "how did all of this get started?".
the problem i find with a lot of people is that they fail to admit that they could be wrong. i could be wrong, there is a possibility that i'm totally deluded and i just think it all adds up but so far all signs point to a sum that is equal to all its parts.

You seem to be fairly reasonable thus far, but you should really drop that phrasing from your dialog as it grossly misrepresents scientific teachings about Big Bang.

i've come to the conclusion that if mathematics is the father of science them philosophy is its mother.
to put it more blatantly: if mathematics is the father to "our observation of our reality" then philosophy is its mother.
philosophy is the intuitive questioning process. science (or the observation of the world around us using empirical means) is the product of questioning things.
philosophy has nothing to do with a "god" creating the universe out of empty space. That's a THEISTIC claim. It's STRICTLY a theistic claim if it makes the statement of "god".
Science teaches us that mass-energy is neither created nor destroyed. So this claim of "something from nothing" IS NOT scientific. However, to claim their WAS nothing and then God made it all...FROM NOTHING...it's a theistic claim. Philosophy hasn't entered the equation yet.

to CLAIM a god is a theistic statement REGARDLESS of the "philosophy" that got you there. Once you claim a god to create the matter that made the universe you have to ask the question, "Where did the matter come from?" IF you say "god made it," then OUT OF WHAT? "out of NOTHING"...then the theistic statement is that matter came from nothing. Science says it always existed.
On the completely separate issue of the usefulness of philosophy...
While it certainly has it's uses, philosophy can't be determined as "better" than science because no matter how well thought out your philosophy is...it's still just your opinion. THERE IS NO solid evidence for an opinion. Science on the other hand has the ability to prove things (as best we can). Neither is better. Each has completely different useages. A hammer is not better than a screwdriver, only in certain cases.
the beauty of philosophy is that you might be right, you might not, but the ambiguity of truth should never overshadow the necessary importance of it.
what is true is not defined by what you can prove, it is defined by what IS.
if you claim a God then yeah that is a theistic statement but it isn't a theistic question to ask "well where did the matter come from?".
it had to come from somewhere or it had to always be here. since we know the universe grows that means the universe began (As im sure you'll agree) and if it began there was a time when it wasn't in existence.

correct, THAT is not a theistic statement...but back up and notice what I said...the idea of something coming from nothing is a theistic statement...not from science. Now, to address "beginning"...Big Bang was the beginning of the universe AS WE KNOW IT...there was still "before" it. We just don't have the means to study it...yet.
Neither I nor Big Bang theory claims there was "nothing" prior to the expansion. So, no, we don't agree that the universe "began"...only the universe AS WE KNOW IT.
continuing my thoughts on infinite or created things:
if you go back forever (not literally of course) either the universe is a perpetual motion machine set into action by itself OR an outside force came upon it and set it into motion OR an outside force engineered it and set it into motion.
i believe that it has to be one of these three options. do you?

On the contrary it is because God gives the choice that we can truly love Him. True love is a matter of choice. God could have made us mindless robots incapable of rejecting Him; but then would we be able to truly love? Real love is appearant when there is another option (in this case rejecting Him) yet we choose one over the other. Hell was not meant to be God's "revenge pit." It is a place for those who wish to be removed from God and all that He is. For those who reject Him. That's free will.

I'm afraid you missed my point. Let me put it this way; can you walk into a dark room full of light? Of course not. Hell isn't a place of torture in the sense that it is the presence of pain; it is torture in the absense of God, who is everything that is good. Imagine it, an eternity of utter isolation, devoid of any hope or good that is God. that's the true torture. You can't have a lack of God and true happiness at the same time anymore than you can have darkness and light in the same space.

The thing has been translated through a dozen different languages before it got around to English, for one thing. For another, entire books that are in the modern version of the Bible are not present in some of the oldest copies of them. Then there's the fact that any of its "prophecies" can be applied to any decade in human history.

In fact, if you take any language and version and compare them to the original texts, you won't find any changes at all. With the exception of a few words, the exact meanings have not been altered in any way. This is historical and scientific fact. Your argument therefore is invalid. Tell you what: Translate something from English into Japoanese. Then have someone else translate it from Japanese back to English.
Ther Bible had no magical protection on it. Stuff was added, edited, and deleted depending on the political aims of the copiers and translators over many, many centuries. .

Not true. Gravity is universal - according to some theories it is even the ONLY universal force, unlike for example dark energy. But Newtonian gravity, of course, is not universal :)

Thank you for quoting the line that proves the writer of Matthew didn't have a freaking clue what he was talking about. This verse is a MISQUOTATION...one of the many errors in the Bible...from a story about a "YOUNG GIRL" (not a virgin) that was to have a child. On top of that, it was about A DIFFERENT YOUNG GIRL! NOT MARY! The child WAS born. It was NEVER part of the prophesy for a messiah.

I think whoever wrote revelations was propable against the formation of the catholic church. granted it was written almost 3 hundred years before but perhaps he was aware of the plan and disagreed with it.

well i don't actually think that my interprtation of Rev 13 is actuallyt the fulfillment of Gods word but rather the authors cyptic rebellion of the political plan to paganized christainity. The early chuch was gnostic and there is a possiblity that so was the author.
I don't see the catholic church as a leader of a religion as so much as a political agenda.
Keep in mind that the church use to kill people for reading the bible. Makes me think there has to be something in there they didn't like

Oh I don't think that the fullfillment was part of Gods plan at all. Being that he doesn't exist and thus cannot plan but rather the author rebelling against the formation of a political church and thought that was evil and was cryptically warning the early gnostic christains against it. Just a Hypothesis for one can't know what motivated the author of Rev for sure.

1 Daniel 7:25 talks about the antichrist changing the times and laws.
This was fulfilled by jesus for he changed the commandmnets down to two and there was no B.C and the time line before christianity.; Thus changing the times and laws.
P.S Rome also changed the calander from being lunar to solar.

i've come to the conclusion that if mathematics is the father of science them philosophy is its mother.
to put it more blatantly: if mathematics is the father to "our observation of our reality" then philosophy is its mother.
philosophy is the intuitive questioning process. science (or the observation of the world around us using empirical means) is the product of questioning things.
thus, philosophy can go where science can't.

Science teaches us that mass-energy is neither created nor destroyed. So this claim of "something from nothing" IS NOT scientific. However, to claim their WAS nothing and then God made it all...FROM NOTHING...it's a theistic claim. Philosophy hasn't entered the equation yet.

philosophy simplified is "wondering". science is the process by which we try to find answers with our tangible reality.
science can't measure or even speculate beyond what you guys see the starting point to the universe as being.
philosophy is using reason to conclude things that empirical means cannot. thats why i think its a much better tool.

"out of NOTHING"...then the theistic statement is that matter came from nothing. Science says it always existed.

On the completely separate issue of the usefulness of philosophy...
While it certainly has it's uses, philosophy can't be determined as "better" than science because no matter how well thought out your philosophy is...it's still just your opinion. THERE IS NO solid evidence for an opinion. Science on the other hand has the ability to prove things (as best we can). Neither is better. Each has completely different useages. A hammer is not better than a screwdriver, only in certain cases.

if you go back forever (not literally of course) either the universe is a perpetual motion machine set into action by itself OR an outside force came upon it and set it into motion OR an outside force engineered it and set it into motion.
