The point here is that all graduates of BUD/S are referred to within the Naval Special Warfare community as SEALs. They received the same training, whether they went to SEAL Teams or Underwater Demolition Teams. Jesse Ventura is a SEAL by any definition.

In 1969 while in boot camp in San Diego I went to a indocternation and there was only UDT Later in years the navy formed a special services known as seals but when Ventura entered they were UDT. In later years the navy split UDT and formed the seals units. During Viet Nam the UDT teams were taken into the rivers of the mekon delta by the brown water navy for missions to search and destroy the cong. Eventhough there were no "seals" we in the navy called those "udt/seals"

Jesse Ventura went through UDT/SEAL Class 58 in 1970 and was assigned to UDT-12, where he spent three years. He was released from active duty in 1973, he joined Reserve SEAL Team ONE. The point here is that all graduates of BUD/S are referred to within the Naval Special Warfare community as SEALs. They received the same training, whether they went to SEAL Teams or Underwater Demolition Teams. Jesse Ventura is a SEAL by any definition.

In 1969 while in boot camp in San Diego I went to a indocternation and there was only UDT Later in years the navy formed a special services known as seals but when Ventura entered they were UDT. In later years the navy split UDT and formed the seals units. During Viet Nam the UDT teams were taken into the rivers of the mekon delta by the brown water navy for missions to search and destroy the cong. Eventhough there were no "seals" we in the navy called those "udt/seals"

So there is no more UDT teams after 1983, he can say he a SEAL today because it is grandfathered. @Armadillarodeo UDT 1938 ? I think you may be confusing U.S. UDT with the Italian 1ª Flottiglia Mezzi d'Assalto which started around that time. The Italians were the original frogmen ! I think American UDT started in the 1940's.
