  • Dr. Demento - The Nardwuar of the 80's

  • Frank AND The Dr? Thanks Youtube!

  • zappa rules,,,,, saw him in 82 he rocked

  • Mick Jagger said he'd kill himself if he was still singing stuff like Satisfaction at 40? Hell he's 70 something still singing those songs, but what else we're they gonna do. Quit playing Rock n Roll and open an Ice Cream parlor! Anyone have any idea what year this was?

  • @scumgod13 looks like around 83 or so (maybe 81 or 2)

  • @scumgod13 if he's 40 it's 1980.

  • Zappa plays Zappa is worth seeing live...

  • The longer he's been gone, the more I find myself missing him.

  • @ronson232 he would have been 71 on 12-21- 2011 I've learned so much from his compositions. shut up and play your guitar and baby snakes and apostrophe are just some of the albums I think influenced my playing most.

  • Two of my heroes, together on screen!!!

  • Anyone cooler than Zappa...no, sorry that's against the laws of physics.

  • Can't say I liked everything about Zappa but he was one of the brightest artists ever.

And he was real. That is rare.

  • frank was amazing! RIP

  • Even Jewish plastic surgeons have spoken about JAP nose jobs. Don't blame Zappa.

  • Dr. Demento fans! Hear the Doctor's visit to the Dave's Gone By radio show, live Saturday, March 19, 2011, 10am-1pm(MT) on UNC Radio (uncradio. c0m). Missed it? Catch it, free, in the show's audio archives at davesgoneby. c0m.

  • Is this the interview where Dr demento played the song frank by Wild Man Fischer and Frank got all flustered and told Dr D to never play it again?

  • Frank Zappa has the single best voice in the world

  • I wonder if Dr. Demento knows he has a penis? He is painfully dorky

  • @flowerdoodle I find that to be his most charming trait, and he certainly owns the hell out of his own dorkiness.

  • Which one is Frank and which one is the Dr.?

  • Two legends!...Dr. Demento and Frank Zappa!

  • 30 years ago, you just had to bribe the radio DJ's with blow and hookersin a van. Nowadays, the "payola" concept is considerably more sophisticated, within radio stations. A little "Education101" for the masses; I'm doing this informative work for Frank!

  • @TheArbiter7I4

I wish Catholic Girls would have been a top 40 hit.

  • So your favorite vegetable wasn't a suicidal

    Tendency? Vinnie and jeff rule!

  • LOL he looks so pissed off

    love it

  • cool green tie, love franks out fit, frank jams forever...

  • life isn't the same after getting hit with this music.

  • zappa was good at music that is a joke

  • @jackburton73 So true, He is a genius. To say he was just good is a joke.

  • Zappa was a genius. Highly underrated. If all you think about is the silly lyrics of some of his songs you are missing out on his true talent. Listen to Black Page. Then look it up on Google. Be amazed.

  • @RichtheEvil Bingo!

  • Dr Demento will live on....it's specialized entertainment.

  • RnB ... riddm' an' blues ... ye say it one more time to RnB artists of today who made out of it Rubbish and Bull$hit ...

  • ....I don't think that this is ironic. Frank never intended to write a 'hit'. He knew what it takes to get your music on the air and never compromised with that shit (like he says in this interview). He always sticked to authenticity and never was opportunistic nor sold himself out.

  • @Lalo3001 Well, that isn't quite right. Zappa actually wrote Valley Girl. Moon Unit supplied Frank with the Lyrics, her voice and the idea to the song, but Frank composed the music.

Another fact is, that Bobby Brown was hugely successful in Europe. I'm from Germany and even the big mainstream radiostations here still play this song once in a while. (which I think is awful: ...Brian Adams - Bobby Brown - Lady Gaga...) not...enough...space...hang on....

  • At 2:10, "Frank, why don't you write a Top 40 song?......."

The irony is that he never wrote a Top 40 song but his Daughter, Moon Unit Zappa did with Valley Girl in the 1980s.

  • Also Frank Hightimes is good advertising my only question is whether or not i piss you off if I play your records Hi they just sound so damn good when your blasted but everybody knows that.Sounds rippen even if your not high I quit eight years ago but ill never forget the central scrutinizer on shrooms he was talkin striaght to me still does sometimes god bless him.

  • hahaha Mick Jagger is like 60 something now and singing Satisfaction

  • ;o) ha ha ha ha haa be my friend (o;

  • I love Frank!

  • Dr. Jacoby!

  • We need more people like Zappa in this world.

  • Frank looks thrilled to be there

  • I had the opportunity of working w/Frank Zappa(worked for the promoter doing a show in my area). He's an intelligent, talented human being & in no way was he racist. Just like kingscott58 said, he was an equal opportunity offender.

  • Intelligence breeds cynicism ...

At least I'm in good company...

  • anti-drug? Zappa loved cigarettes. He was addicted.

  • he was refering to lsd and pot among other things that directly alter your mind. though cigarettes harm your lungs

  • i stand corrected. i forgot to count all the imports. i know in my heart that frank was no where near being a racist. he was an equal opertuniy offender. george duke, napolean murphy brock, are just a few of the many different levels of tanned people frank had in his band.

  • come on ladies and gentlemen. frank was all about the music . the very fact that he put out nearly 70 albums is in itself proof that the man had no "issues". people who are ignorant tend to only see 1 one side of the picture. frank never saw a note he didn't like..

  • Zappa put out 100 albums.... 99 actually with one being a double album.

  • I think you are right on thank you for defending one of the best musicians ive ever known and loved. you rock....Justine San Diego thanks Kingscott58

  • so now mick jagger is about 60 and he is still doing satisfaction why is he not dead already?big mouth needs help maybe

  • Zappa had a DISLIKE the British. He said this many times, Read his book. Just because a few idiots (judges mainly) got some gigs cancelled on the grounds of OBSCENITY.Oh and getting assualted by ONE person on stage in the 70's.And cos the LSO is shit. I love Zappa but hating a nation becuase of the actions of a few is Racist. Feel free to discuss.

  • I hate Quebecers, and I was born in Montreal, QC, Canada.... does that make me a racist??

As a matter of fact, I hate most north-americans for being so ignorant of the corporatocracy that surrounds us.... does that make me a racist, too?

  • please define hate.If you hate someone you want them dead. That is my definition to dislike is different

  • Define hate?? Webster dictionary says "A: intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury -- B: extreme dislike or antipathy". In my case I have severe dislike AND antipathy for most North-Americans. I don't wanna kill them, that's just silly. Americans are blind to the private banks (The Fed & World Bank), Canadians have a public bank and aren't using it (or even know of it), Quebecers who want to separate don't know the province already acts like a country.

  • Ive never seen where Zappa actually says he hated British people but England was his first experience with censorship. He did call France hell though...Who wouldn't hate hell. That doesnt mean he was racist. Hating a place and a system doesn't make you racist. It just makes you not want to go back. People are so quick to point the finger and call other people racist these days its pathetic....I think it tells more about the person making the statement then anything.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that sarcasm??? Those Gangster Rappers are the ESSENCE of white hate in America! They think that all white people need to die just because they originally had more money than those hooligans, even when that's not even the case!

  • Frank didn't like Dr. Dimento. His mannerisms said it all. I did like Dr. Dimento, I listented to him on a radio I buit from scratch in the early 70's. Westwood One Radio.

  • Zappa, racist ?

  • nahh

  • Yeah, especially considering his musical partner for years, Ike Willis, WAS BLACK.

  • Actually, I was trying to ridiculize this "andaloo" prick.

  • Now I have heard EVERY famous musician called a racist, no matter how moronic the statement might seem!!!

  • Because you use the words "black" and "white" does not make you racist.

  • @Rhcpf12 Especially in the 1980's, before more "PC" friendly terms were used. In fact, in the 1980's "Black" and "White" WERE the PC terms.

  • @Rhcpf12 YES YES YES

  • The 2 shot of them before comercial is priceless.

  • Excellent! Thank You!

  • I remember listening to this, now I can watch. "You only meet great dissapointments when you have great expectations". Words to live by
