Anthony John Denison, one of the grizzled old cops on The Closer, as a much younger man(late 30's about), playing Ray Luca, a character based roughly on Tony Spilotro(the Joe Pesci character in Casino under a different name for legal reasons). This would be on every night of the week on USA when I was a kid, or maybe it was every Tuesday, but I remember getting a double feature of this with my dad, and then we'd watch Tuesday NIght Fights afterward, back when boxing was legit. Thumbs up if awesome memories of your dad can still make you drop a tear :)
This was before the Sopranos, Goodfellows, and. I remember first seen the pilot of this show back in September of 1986. I was move by this show and it became one of my favorite TV Shows. As a matter of fact, the guy who played Tony Soprano's dad, played a lawyer on this show.
i recall this show when i was young. and i also remembered my old man getting pissed that the show was canceled i believe. it was on nbc i think. great memories...
I was about 10, I think, and we would watch this show together as a family. First time I heard "Runaway" was thanks to "Crime Story" and fell in love with it. One of.the best tv series ever.
BADDA BING BADDA BOOM! Hey,... just the guy's hair is scary enough for me! Man what a pomp! full fenders and everything... And what a great car chase scene with all those fat-assed Caddys and Chryslers. This was a great show that captured the "Goodfellows" era of the early sixties perfectly..Then of course Del on pipes, caps it off!
Thats how I want to leave this world....Guns blazing, out on the Las Vegas Strip after having "hit" the Casino for a grip of CASH! Cash me out, bi-otch!~
@SyrupableSweetMaple does that make you feel unique and special? Why do you teens always have to stamp your age in when you like a song thats before your time? Self centered piece of shit. I bet theres fucking 5 year olds in the world who like this song. So no, you're not the youngest person in the world to like this song. Sorry to burst your uniqueness bubble. I love you.
@bingbang3214 I actually see 20 and 30 somethings, sometimes even 40 somethings, post their age when talking about oldies music. Reason being that a lot of older folks say "young people don't appreciate music anymore" and they want to prove them wrong, as if to say "Not all young people like stuff like Fifty Cents (or whoever's popular today)". I know it can get old after awhile, but you're not the first person to go on a hate-filled rant about it, so you're not exactly being unique either.
recorded as a one off for the pilot showing of CRIME STORY INCLUDING A LIVE PERFORMANCE IN RAY LUCAS CLUB and a cameo appearance of del as a policeman at the very end of first episode. this must be one of the most under rated police dramas on tv, i can remember staying up to watch it when it was first shown on channel four on uk tv. i believe there is a soundtrack of the series which has a version of RUNAWAY and all the other great tracks as well.
Where did you get this version? Everytime a listen to this song on other vids Del Shannon always sounds a little different. Which album is this song on with this version?
remember watching this series in South Africa - it was dubbed into Afrikaans :) It was followed by Tour of Duty (Sending Vietnam) on Friday evenings. Many years ago !
@martbook :-) I know it's Del Shannon, and you're probably right, it might be a "newer" recording, but the one they used in the Show has different lyrics and background singers :-) Example: instead of "wishing you were here with me, to end this misery..." as in this recording, the TV version said something like: "watching all the plains/things/ (?) go by, some live and others die"
Anyway....I love the video, it doesn't really matter which recording it is. :-)
Great show. There hasn't been anything half as good as Crime Story.
I got the DVD set at BestBuy when it was released a few years back. The show lasted just 2 seasons. From 1985 - 1987. Whoever decided to take it off the air was a real moron. Wish they would run the show again on cable.

I remember back in the days when the mob ran Vegas and women and children were safe day or night and there was no crime because the bosses wanted it that way. Today: Big business has moved in and ain't nothing safe. All the CEO's and stockholders are concerned with is the bottom line: Hell! Anymore, it's just another big city with a high crime rate and nobody gives a damn. Vegas used to be a cool place to live....not anymore.
@vintagechica82 I know it was on VHS in 1994. I rented it one weekend. It was on 2 cassettes but I forgot how many episodes but there were more than I thought. This was one of the best series ever. It brings back very special memories for me sitting up late in the dark watching this on Friday nights at my Grans by the light of the coal fire on my own. Anthony Dennison was fantastic as Ray Luca A real old fashioned bad guy.. You dont hear of him / see him much now. I cant believe those Friday nights were 21 years ago ( it was 1989 ).
Talking about this just the other day and we couldn't pin the year down, seeing it here is kinda scary !!!! TWENTY ONE years, where have they gone ???? Great series and the variation they used of this tune was equally classic.
@leyland1961 Hi , Yes It doesnt seem like 21 yrs .My Eldest Daughter is 20 in December & it was later on that year (1989) I got married. Its starting to become worrying !!! fairportfan2, I don"t know what you are smokin, but get your act together, before you stay crap that is not true. Evidently, you did not watch tv, MORON!!!!!
This was one of the best shows ever, I still think the opening of the pilot when the guys are held up in the bank and demand 2 million dollars and the reply was , " HEY I GOT a dollar 83 in my pocket , your taking to the wrong guy " brings it all into prospective
what a so sexy man was ray luca!!!!!!!. I remember I was 5 years old when my daddy used to watch crime story and I loved to see ray luca and nowadays I still love to see him :·)
Hello, I was a teenager when I saw an animated video of this song was a rock band that musicians were becoming dinosaurs or something like that, do you know you will done? I searched this video all my life =)
Interestingly his widow appeared on the Donahue show in the early 90's claiming Prozac was the cause.
Apparently it and similar drugs can in very rare cases make one suicidal. Back then they weren't aware of it and even then it's still debatable if was a factor here.

This was one of the best shows ever, I still think the opening of the pilot when the guys are held up in the bank and demand 2 million dollars and the reply was , " HEY I GOT a dollar 83 in my pocket , your taking to the wrong guy " brings it all into prospective

That nuclear bomb scene at the end still makes me laugh at the stupidity of "Paulie".

i'll always remember the season finale with the atomic bomb going off, then the next season just flat-out saying it basically didn't happen.

You're rememberng wrong - they even played a little with implying that Ray was now mildly superhuman, like a Marvel villain.

1:12 Do you have any idea how expensive it is to film a chase scene like this for T.V.???
They put their money on the screen, that's for sure.

This is a re-recorded version from either the late 70's or early 80's. I have this version on a bargain bun CD from K-Tel.

He's Dead honey. he commited suicide - he shot himself in 1990. i think it was all those years of alcohol - it just took it's toll on him. :(

Interestingly his widow appeared on the Donahue show in the early 90's claiming Prozac was the cause.
Apparently it and similar drugs can in very rare cases make one suicidal. Back then they weren't aware of it and even then it's still debatable if was a factor here.
